This has been one of my greatest problems as a novice. Not realising some are dormant at different times of the year.

It can certainly be tricky as some can go dormant even when they're not meant to. For instance, during severe droughts or long lasting heatwaves. The good news is that the majority grow Spring-Autumn. It's mostly Aeonium and some Sedum that grow better in Winter 🙂

Thanku this was a great vdo. Where i stay i have murdered off quite some aeoniums as i allowed them to go crisp as i thot they r dormant and did not water them. The winters are extremely mild so most actively grow here esp agavoides do well in d mild winters. Thanku

Thank so much- glad it helped a bit 🙂 I think with brutal summers we both seem to get, a few rules need to be broken for them to survive. I've also learned this by killing a few 😅

That’s great information, to understand the life cycle of some plants is really good.

Thank you for an excellent video! What about mixed succulents in pots? Should I separate them by dormancy periods? So for example, echeverias in 1 pot? Aeonium in a separate pot? Where would crassula and senecio go? Thank you for your help. Bonnie

Good Point! I'll make a video about that. But basically this is what i do- I have a few mixed pots with Aeonium+Grapto+Echeveria and just pop them under shadecloth in summer and water where the Aeonium is in winter. It seems to work. When i make the video i'll ask people to comment to see if anyone has a different approach :)

@@marialakshmi2330 Aww, thanks🥲. I get a variation of this comment here and there. Not sure why people have such an urge to point this out without knowing me. To quote Lady Gaga ' Baby, i was born this way' 😀😀
