I got the impression they would be expanding coverage for radio replacement and amp replacement for popular GM models that are not covered at the moment like a 2019-up Silverado/Sierra 1500 for example. Metra at least makes a dash kit for these models, but iDatalink currently has nothing to retain steering wheel controls, vehicle settings, back up camera, etc. I didn't get the impression they would be making dash kits for Cadillacs from our conversation as I was asking specifically about Bose amp replacement for 2019-up GM's like the Silverado/Sierra (most commonly requested). It sounds like the new module they're creating for this would also be able to be used to retain vehicle information should you prefer to replace the radio. Sometimes with iDatalink they'll cover the data/SWC, but they may not develop the dash kit solution. They might eventually, it all depends on demand and how popular the vehicle is. For example, years ago we used an ADS-MRR in a 2011 Ford F-150 with the factory 8" screen, but we had to make our own dash kit to mount it. Now iDatalink makes a kit.
There was a comment that got blocked by RUclips because it had a link in it from @justinharrell9256 that was a REALLY great comment. He pointed out that sounded like the Sony rep was saying Apple CarPlay/Android Auto are capable of more than 16 bit/48 kHz. I went to Sony booth to ask about the highest resolution possible specifically with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, but the answer I got was more directed for the type of files that would be loaded on a USB drive or high res player like an Astell & Kern for example. I've been asking all the manufacturers reps to try and get a direct answer and I was surprised at how hard it was to find this information. So far from the research I've done and after speaking to both Sony and Alpine (Kenwood was still waiting to get back to me) both Apple and Android limit playback to 16 bit/48 kHz. Whether wired or wireless. Yes, Apple can do hi-res but it appears you need a separate DAC to do that and supposedly it won't do that when connected to Apple CarPlay. This is the benefit to using Alpine's embedded Tidal app which is capable of up to 24 bit/96 kHz. I will be making a video on this at some point because I found it so interesting how these manufacturers are pushing the hi-fidelity capabilities of their products, yet the main devices everyone is using them for are limited to 16 bit/48 kHz. Will be doing a side by side at some point, Apple Tidal vs embedded Alpine Tidal to see how big of a difference it really is. Thanks for the comment Justin! Sorry it got blocked.
since you have a jeep ... what upgrades have you done to the jeep . I am looking to change my amp i have a rockford fosgate amp looking to upgrade that and speakers and tweeter. Looking for quality sound not just "LOUD"
What Bose head unit replacement do you folks recommend for a 2011 Chevy Avalanche with the Bose in-dash navigation /DVD rear entertainment system with center channel speaker? I also use Tidal primarily for music.
If you want to keep the RSE I recommend a Kenwood with DVD player, dual zone and iDatalink Maestro compatibility. With dual zone turned on, you can still load the DVD In the front player and have it piped through the rear monitor on wireless headphones. Also the volume offset can be helpful with Bose, but I think for that year, the Maestro also gives you amp gain control. Not a lot out there that checks all those boxes though. If your current radio has the DVD loaded in the front player and you want to keep that, consider the DNX997XR, DNX577s, DDX9907XR, or DDX9707s. I think are the only models with the built in DVD to retain RSE. I'm sure JVC has some equivalent options too! If sound quality is more important to you, you may want to consider one of the newer Alpine models like the iLX-F509, 511 or iLX-507. I have been asking a lot of questions to all the manufacturers lately and will be making another video to explain this, but I recently learned that whether you are connected wired or wirelessly, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto tops out at 48 khz/16 bit. That is the benefit of the Alpine models having the embedded Tidal app which is capable of up to 96 khz/24bit. I haven't had a chance to do a side by side listening test using Alpine's built in Tidal app at full resolution vs through Apple CarPlay, but I imagine, technically, it should sound better using the Alpine embedded app. How well does it work? I have yet to find out! Alpine is Maestro compatible too, but doesn't have a DVD player so that's why I was saying if you load your DVD in the front player then you would lose RSE if you go with a mechless model. If your DVD is loaded in the rear, you can retain it through the AUX on the Alpine (or any Kenwood Maestro receiver with AUX/AV-in as well).
Great video! Always good to get out of the shop and get some fresh air and check out the latest gear! Have you heard any scoop from your Kenwood guys if they're coming out with something new similar to the DNX 997 XR? I remember you told me you had a couple on order and then shortly after that I saw Crutchfield said they were discontinued. I still haven't got around to installing mine yet! I like the idea of the HDMI on that new Kenwood that you just reviewed. If I'm not mistaken though I think the screen resolution on my DNX 997 XR is also HD quality like in that new and you were just talking about in your other review. Take care and keep up the great work! 😊
Thanks! I actually didn't even get a chance to chat with Josh at the Kenwood booth unfortunately, but I don't think it's discontinued. I think Crutchfield just stopped carrying them/waiting on backorders. I did receive a backordered DDX9907XR recently so I suspect the DNX997XR will eventually trickle in. And yes, your DNX997XR has that HD high resolution screen and is compatible with the CMOS-740HD camera - although those are backordered at the moment now too! Still dealing with supply chain issues. So glad you enjoyed the content, thanks so much for watching!
That's basically the 3-way version of these. Personally I'm not usually a fan of 3-ways unless we have control over each driver through a DSP and separate amp. OR if you are able to mount the mid and tweeter basically right next to each other. If you're not using a DSP, placement of each driver is important. Are you using something like the Alpine OPTIM8 to drive it?
Thanks for watching and great question. I honestly would need to do a follow up chat with the Sony trainer because he did cover this, but it almost sounds like trying to chase down a Unicorn the way he described it during the training. The impression I got was there are so many variations on compatibility that you're lucky if you have a Samsung device that is compatible. There may be something you have to turn on in developer settings. The main takeaway I got after discussing the bit rate further (post show/video) is this. If you're using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, the most you will get is 16 bit/48 kHz. Wired or wireless. Doesn't matter if you have an LDAC compatible device, if you're using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, my understanding (after talking to a few manufacturers about this) is at this moment, that is the highest resolution either will support. So I think if you're trying to use LDAC, my understanding is that would ONLY be applicable if you are streaming through Bluetooth and NOT using Android Auto. I have plans to make a video to break this down further because I feel like manufacturer's are not very clear about this and I find it interesting. I guess if you had a Sony high resolution player like a NW-ZX707 that would probably work.
Thx, yeah even Samsung is mum.. what you explained sounds correct.. Sounds like you are on the right track.. which in the end is ldac really something special?? Sounds like a regular dac.. hell I don't know.. I think the car industry blur understanding to try to sound like they have something special every few years when really it's not much..
Yes! Hello fellow Husband and wife team 🙌 For some people it works well. Other clients tell me they’d kill their spouse if they had to work with them 🤣
great video annie!!!!
Thank you!!! So glad you enjoyed :)
Awesome video!
was the ADS rep saying they will have a GM replacement option for 15s and up? So you could replace the headunit of a Cadillac?

You can have sound quality and loud :) Which Jeep? Our older 2014 Wrangler or the 2019 in this video? What year Jeep are you driving? 2-door? 4-door?

@@carstereochick DVD is loaded upfront, so I don't care about the RSE, I don't have any kids. So Alpine with the Tidal app works for me!

Thx for the vid... anymore info you have on LDAC. Would be helpful.. I have a Samsung s22 and can't seem to find out what it will support with LDAC...
I'm looking at the 9500es

So your husband is your head installer? Thats cool. My wife and I work close together as well.
Yes! Hello fellow Husband and wife team 🙌 For some people it works well. Other clients tell me they’d kill their spouse if they had to work with them 🤣
