**Thanks For Watching This Video**
Andrew, your self awareness is to be admired. A most important survival skill.
I wish you the best.
Your wife is a true treasure, blue, you took advice like a champion.
If you are on a mission to save weight, you should have gone for light blue!
I'll see myself out after the tumbleweed passes.
😂😂😂 I snorted while laughing at this comment. You got me good. Haha
You made my day with your comment! 😂😂😂
😂
Well played sir
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣👍🏽👍🏽
And the world makes sense once again.
For now.
I am so glad you are building another troopy camper. It is truly a joy to follow your builds. Thanks for sharing your passion. I have learned so much from you Andrew. Even though I am buying a 5 seater Defender 110 td5 2006 (with only 60 000km on the odo) these days, I can put all of the things I have learned from you into building the weekend tourer best suited for my use. My goal is to go simple and classic. Something I learned from you : Only add the products our family really needs, and nothing more. Howling moon tourer 160 rrt, my greenland kayak or canoe, primus omnifuel, coffee pot, cooking pot, dry food, plates, cups, chairs, table, fishing gear, simple tarp/awning, clothes, boots, first aid kit, headlamp, saw, knife and axe for firewood. Water, snacks, and off course tobacco and beer 😊Thank you so very much.
As someone in the US, my heart aches seeing these sold abroad. Would love one here. There are a few outfits that bring them here but they cost more than a house.
Hi stand beside you saying that it would be more than awesome to have one of those here in the United States. Toyota diesel ! 5 spd ! I bought a 96 Jeep Cherokee because it’s bare-bones four-wheel-drive and it’s great. But I love Toyota so much more
Hoping the Grenadier fills that hole here in the US.
You cant buy in other country and bring to the states?
@@dolguldur4706 not unless 25 years old. There is an outfit out west that works to make them compliant for USA but biiigggg $$$$$$$.
@@ryanmartinage owh..thats a shame...its weird toyota do sell their car in the states, but why..why there cannot sell this basic land cruiser there..any spesific reason of why toyota didnt sell there,or they just cannot sell this basic land cruiser in the states?
Nice clean, new canvas to start off with. Maybe get a scale in the workshop and weigh the spares as you put them in and add all up on the whiteboard. This way you will at least have a very close estimate on where the weight is going. Looking forward to the build
That's the power of a Troopy, you fall over when you see it.
I hope you develop better tastes😁
Good colour chosen
You could build the same vehicle 100 times over, and I’d still watch it. Your knowledge of overlanding, overlanding equipment, etc, is second to virtually none. There’s so many that pretend to know. But you’re one of a handful that has 40 years of experience in REAL overlanding conditions. It’s why I continue to watch whatever series you put out.
Thank you
Careful. Your jealousy is showing.
@@niftee7628 Haters gonna hate…..
Congratulations. I do enjoy what you present and the way you deliver. i look forward to the new build especially your expressive delivery and the rants. I ordered my very first 4x4 last May and it's a 79series Dual Cab, hopefully she arrives before Christmas. It's going to help me create my own adventures around Oz.
Iveco have offroad vans "straight off the showroom floor" with heavier payload carrying capacities and are more cost effective.
Solid front and rear axles, front, rear and central diff locks, larger and more comfortable interior and seating just to highlight a few things that make the iveco more enticing
wouldnt be taking one in the outback ,grenades
Needed more space but liked the reliability of the Land Cruiser suspension and I liked the patrol solid axles. Ended up making hybrid. Works well in harsh Africa
Back to the "bread and butter" Andrew, well done, ill look forwards to this.
Well said mate. I was planning on getting a troopy myself but my build would be 100% different from your choices and opinion as I’m a much younger bloke and only need a custom foam mattress slapped in the back to enjoy touring Australia.
Its sad when Andrew has to waste part of his videos defending himself for having opinions. This is why I love vehicles and hate most people.
Andrew, your awesome man!!
He doesn't though. he can just get on with the content everyone wants to see and ignore anyone who doesn't share his opinion.
Exciting time for you! Look forward to seeing the transformation.
Andrew your wife is so cute. Such a lucky man to have someone who supports and adds such value to a man's life. Enjoy the new Toyota sir. I so wish they sold these in the US.
I love you Andrew. You are one of my main inspirations on Overland. I’ve consistently watched your channel since I discovered it in 2018. And I’m so happy you bought another Troopy! I looking forward to your plans with it! I also learn about new and different ways to outfit a vehicle, as well as off road driving strategies,bc of your films. I will be purchasing a Tacoma, being an American I don’t have the option to buy a Troopy :( but I have a lot planned as far as a well done rig.
Great video Andrew. Your comments feel valid for Troopy's of all ages - not just new ones. Inspiring, thanks!
Andrew, you shouldn't feel privileged, With dedication, integrity hard work YOU deserve a new Land Cruiser - WELL DONE !! i am happy for you - continue on the trajectory you are on, be blessed
What a beauty. Lovely colour that blue.
Genuinely looking forward to where this project leads. I'm bummed we don't get the 70 series here in the US.
Given that they basically haven’t changed it in almost 30 years not a huge loss. Toyota should have used all the money they blew on the LEXUS LFA to redesign it;( Six speed manual, workhorse style twin turbo I6 diesel, slightly larger tires, rear coil springs and 2wd, full time 4x4 high and low plus locked center differential.
we need something like this in the states not to big /wide for the trails short wb ,empty, basic wagon to do a car camper/overlander in, no frills, no 3 rows of seats to toss out ,now cut a hole in the roof, have pop top camper, Im tried of roof top tents or double cabs utes with a useless 5' box cant sleep in the back
@@youtubecarspottersguide1 that’s why I bought a f150 regular cab 4x4 short box with the 5.0 v8!
@@JeepCherokeeful nice no eco boost ! have the ram short box 5.7 hemi people ask why we buy short box short wb .. easy to park ,6.5 box easy to drive like a ramchager , 80-90s bronco ,k5 blazer
I've only had 2 daily drivers since 1980. Both of them have been Troopcarriers. Yes, I am also a bolted on fan boy of the Troopy. They can be family heirlooms that last essentially forever if you keep the maintenance up to them. Love em.
Oh, that Midnight Blue! 😍
Please wrap it in the same color with coordinating 4Xoverland theme. Very happy you have another Troopy. Congrats!
good choice! same blue as my 78! have seen it at the dealership 2 years ago and bought it immediately. was brand new, imported from Dubai, strong petrol engine. built is now 95% finished, always focused on weight - ever kg costs money - . vehicle came with 3500 kg GVM already and has 3050 kg empty but with 180l petrol. so enough ‚space‘ left for luggage and equipment. unfortunately Covid did not let us travel a lot up to now. looking forward to closely following your built!
The "Sir David Attenborough" of Overland Vehicles. Love your channel!
Your opinion is why we enjoy your videos so much!
I miss my troopy, l got the door put in the side, best thing ever and got the terrain tamer parabolic put on, second best thing l did. looking forward to your build to see what you choose.
3330kg GVM I think is a Typo on Toyotas online spec sheet. Our current model Troopy has a 3300kg GVM.
Your coin? Your colour.
I would have gone for the sand colour for 2 reasons: dark colours bring a higher heat load and they seem to show every speck of dirt.
Looking forward to your new series based on weight management.
Even though cars with a dark colour look dirty more easily we are excited that you chose something different. I have heard somewhere that one can save on weight by drilling holes in any large flat surface or by using materials that were manufactured to have these "holes". If done right the material (timber / metal) does not loose rigidity or strength but weighs less. I suppose one could also laser cut the metals. Maybe Paul could also weigh in on this. I also enjoy the banter with him.
The blue 💙 would have been my choice! You're gonna wrap it anyway.
This is gonna be interesting how you balance reduced weight gain without being a "minimalist" build.
Cheers 🍻, G.
Standing by. 🇺🇲
Andrew i would like say watching your videos seeing the connection the love, care for each other and banta between you 2 is truly wonderful
0:09 Andrew on his first trip with the new car
Dropping in on the action!
Head over heels...
Hadn't driven yet he'd already fallen for it.
glad to see someone looking at a build with weight in mind. spent a few days weighing my 4x4 and all camp gear and its amazing how a few kilos here and there add up to Max GVM !!
I had a complete rethink on my 200 Sahara, it has a GVM upgrade and I was still over the GVM with my Kimberley Kamper attached. AGM batteries out, Lithium in etc, I took 25KG's out of the black widow drawers, The 60% of the middle seats weights 47KG, Luxuries like a drag chain are gone, they weight 11kg's.
Thanks for another great video Andrew. What I like about all your videos is that you actually build a lot of options. People who has no idea can easily learn and figure out their preferences in building a unit like that. As we all know it isn’t cheap exercise so you give the people a quite good basics from where anyone can start.
Instant like for showing the stack at the start
Looking forward to this build! Light weight is key to more economical outback travel. Enjoy the project Andrew. I know we will.
Falling in love with his Troopy literally !
Are you also a bolt on fan?
Great summary of the trooper. While the Toyota trooper is the only heavy duty van in many countries there are other options in most Asian countries. Some of these include the BJ 2022, UAZ-469, Tata Xenon and others. Toyota is definitely the best but in many countries other options are much more affordable and easier to get repairs done.
Am I the only one to whom Andrew sound more and more like David Attenborough when narrating?
Love the blue. You made the right choice. 😊👍👍
I hope the ultimate tourer off exploring Australia with its new happy owner , I enjoyed that build , and love the colour of this new one to 🍻
Thanks Andrew! I was building my my 76 the same time as your last Troopy and now I’m waiting for my new Troopy to arrive. I also went too heavy on my 76 and had decided to go much lighter this time. I can’t wait to build mine watching your videos for inspiration.
I’ve already watched this video twice.
Excellent choice, so, when we see "bluey" out in the bush we shall know who it is !
That would be a red top.
💯 fantastic! I never flet so happy than to sell my 200 series and buy another 79. Weight is a real issue! I had a troopie with pop top and did the suspension upgrade as it was super heavy. Over time the rear doors began to stick. I knew the moment the weight altered the pressure on the integrity of the body was compromised. So i watch this with great interest Andrew.
Look forward to this build, im currently about to strip my troopy of its ancient heavy set up and start over, thanks a lot Andrew, you played a major role in my decision to buy the troopy in the 1st place
I look forward to your journey on this build. It will be fun to hear about what is important to you. (What will make the cut, and what will not) It will be a good drill in decision making and planning. I hope it is enjoyable to you.
I get SO excited every time I see a new 70 series now, living in constant fear that the EV brigade is going to undermine the last proper 4X4 production line! Enjoy Andrew!
Don’t worry buddy, as long as we’re mining the earth we’ll keep getting diesel 70 series.
Actually, I was just watching his video about using induction cooking and what a mess it was with converters and batteries. The Rivian R1T (an electric truck) can add a slide kitchen that works off the truck’s batteries. It only degrades a couple of miles/day for cooking. The R1S (their SUV) would be a perfect camper for 2. I totally understand these will not work for Australia. You’re distances are insane an the charging infrastructure is non-existent. But that’s too bad, these things are AWSOME! You should look them up.
You're a very lucky boy, aren't you Andrew? 👍And don't worry at all about what others think...the very reason we tune in is to see and admire what you are doing to your cars!
Love the blue! Don’t wrap it.
I say wrap it in the same color. 😍
PPF clear wrap is the go.
I didn’t think about a clear wrap. 👍🏻
Florida resident here and I'm not knocking you or the Mrs. but when you're up north and the sun feels like it's only a few meters away avoid touching that midnight blue, it'll be blazing as opposed to the sandy color which would be merely baking. It does look good though.
While I'm slowly building my dual-cab ute up to be a tourer, my goodness, you do make a compelling case for a Troopy!
Congratulations Andrew! BEAUTIFUL Troopy!
What I’d love to see you do is try the Terrain Tamer parabolic springs and their pro shocks. It would be an interesting comparison from your ARB BP51 set up on the last one.
Mr Andrew Pierre White building a new Troopy camper. Now that has put a smile on my face. So looking forward to the thought process behind each mod. Good luck mate, all the best.
Light weight is the hardest thing to achieve without spend big on exotic materials like titanium and carbon fibre! I look forward to the upcoming videos.
Minimalism over luxury is the key.
@@HardstylePete exactly. Spending more money just so you can carry more stuff is crazy. More stuff is more complexity
@@HardstylePete amen! Less is more… if you have spend 60kg weight to carry 80kg weight, it’s not very weight efficient, is it! This describes most metal rear drawer system
Swapping seats helps a lot. Insulation is also quite heavy, if you can remove it.
@@odys3803 but my hearing needs the insulation :)
Thank you
This needs to be in the US. Toyota is missing out on Jeep "Model T " market
wouldnt pass your emissions or safety
@@brocksinclair66 Passes Euro4 emissions and I think those are more strict than the U.S. emissions. I am certain that something would have to be changed to meet U.S. regulations though. Airbags maybe? Crash testing and fuel economy testing.
@@The_Opinion_of_Matt only just got a dpf, whilst americas had them for years
Might be a numbers thing -will they sell enough of them…?
@@seumasmackinlay probably out sell everything there haha
People take things too personally. "If you don't do it the exact same way I did it (would have done it) then you are saying I did it wrong and I take that as an insult." Yeah, those people need to lighten up and/or cut back on the coffee or something.
Andrew I appreciate the way you build your vehicles. It gives me ideas for what to do on my own vehicle. And you explain the reasons you do some of the things the way you do, which gives me some insight on how to change things to suit my needs/wants.
Also, a camper off-road when going solo? Managing a trailer adds additional complexity to maneuverability and limits what can be done. For those towing a camper I would recommend either not going solo or keeping to the less technical trails. But then trails can change due to weather, so what should be a simple trail may end up being very technical.
have the interior 3D scanned and then have a modular carbon-fibre furniture made. same approach for the RTT/camper conversion. costly no doubt but you save it long term in fuel economy
Awesome hope you get it to the platform you got in mind Troopy is the best 🇿🇦👍🏻⛺️
Clever boy, went with your wife's choice of colour.
First of all, I am glad you only bruised your ego with the trip. Second, I love that you left your fall in the video. No one is perfect, we all make mistakes and have accidents. Thanks for being real!
Truthfully, not even that. I could have chosen not to show it, and not had my ego 'bruised'.
Thats a rare sight seeing two troopys sitting in a yard
I’d be paying MASSIVE attention as to where weight is located too . Take some of the heaviest additions to the vehicle and place them first somewhere low and as far forward in the rear section as possible like right behind the front seats ! Distribution is more important than even the amount of weight in total . ( apart from going over gvm ) . For example When I travel solo I place heavy things like my snow chains and tools down In the front passenger footwell to get it as far away from the rear as possible
There's something about a 70 series in that blue. I once saw one in a national park, 1HD 79 ute.. made me want one ever since.
Gidday Andrew, I touched base with you several years ago and became a first-time Patron. I have a lot of respect for you and what you do and I think your wife is unreal too.
I got my new Troopy last November and ordered many things which are still unavailable until September / October this year. eg Kaymar Rear Bar (I have done all the maths and I know you have connections in South Africa but this is the lightest rear bar/wheel carrier with a rated tow hitch in Australia by around 40kg.), ARB Side rails, no idea when they will be available. (Yes you probably won't be interested in these any way). 90 lt under-body water tank from Long Range Automotive, 6 to 7-month wait. Quick Pitch Ensuite and accessories have apologized that delivery times are unpredictable...Anyway, I'm sure you are on top of this, but I would just like to warn you, this might be a slow build.
Man I wish we could get these in America brand new. Instead I have to import an old one and swap everything over to new spec.
Would love a Land Cruiser Double Cab brand new. The basic nature and rock solid build really appeal to me.
@@gpaje Land Rover and rock solid build sounds like an oxymoron.
@@MrDingaling007 Opps, typo, I mean Land Cruiser Double Cab, the 70-series in particular.
Me too, unfortunately I don't think I could afford to import an old one.
Too bad Toyota hasn't realized they have done the same to the U.S. Land Cruiser as what happened to the Toyota Supra, Mazda RX-7, and Mitsubishi 3000GT. They didn't sell because they became priced out of the market that wanted them.
Our government is the only one to blame for this...regulations always kill the fun!
enjoy it Andrew see forward what will do with it
and your right you do what you like with it
what others think about it is not important it is your troopy and your way to do it
plus you now what you doing 😉
Andrew it's torture watching you gleefully purchase Land Cruiser 70s, from a dealership, when I can never have one in the US. And even an American Land Cruiser of equivalent vintage would be old and dingy in comparison to a beautiful new one.
Muurriiicaaaaaaaaa 🤘🏻🤘🏻😆
We in the EU can also just watch. Some grey imports, no idea how they got through and with prices in the sky.
Why? Doesn’t meet emission requirements?

Too bad "light duty" 70 series with coils all around and 1KZ-T aren't available anymore.
1kzT don’t cut the it when carrying big weight we build a 79 with this engine in and it’s massively under powered with weight unloaded it’s great 👍
that was just a prado
Your guiding principle for this vehicle is saving weight. Looking through some clips of the Aussie Dream Tourer, you mentioned hitting two ‘Roos. In fact you said one was a huge grey, which was hit at 90km/h leaving “not even a little mark. No dent, no scrape. Nothing.” Now ‘roo bars are big, hefty lumps of steel, which by your example are heavily over-engineered. If your goal is to save weight, what about a redesign of the venerable bull bar. It seems to me to be another item that is big and heavy because they’ve always been big and heavy. Is it time for a rethink?
Blue lightweight troopy build with NO Glamper trailer! I never thought I'd see the day. perfection.
So, you fell for a troopy yet again! Much better than the last limo/tank! Looking forward to the build!
Good choice!
You know the dust gonna show. Congrats!
This is your bailiwick- the build will be terrific, I'm sure. But I've noticed your growing interest in doing stuff with older vehicles. It'd be something if you could pull off an electric conversion of an old Rover or Toyota. Think about it, a little extra wind/ water and solar generator kit, roll up solar awnings, solar on all horizontal surfaces- infinite range is achievable, and just maybe the gear is good enough to make a credible average speed. Seems like your kind of adventure, especially given your preference for sunny deserts. You have the experience and connections...
THANK YOU Andrew. LEGEND !!!
Another fantastic video, keep doing what YOU are doing.
Well done. You’ve earned it.
Congratulations , beautiful colour,, I would not wrap it the colour is perfect, enjoy the build and safe driving
