i take vitamin D supplements because if i dont i am "severely deficient" which makes my doctor make her "danger" face
Shaima 'a how is that going for you? I am vitamin D deficient as well but I have complications from it like heart palpitations.
Yeah some people are low on Vitamin D and this can cause weak bones later. My doctor just gives out a weekly solution for a few months till levels are okay.

In vitamin D……. In the winter. 🤔
@@Jimmy_Cavallo I believe most people are deficient to some extent in vitamin D. Even in the summer, if you wear sunscreen you get little to no benefit from the sun in regards to vitamin D. I'm an avid cyclist and I do take vitamin D supplements despite spending a lot more time in the sun than most people. Problem is, I'm always out there for hours so I have to wear sunscreen.
Other than a relative handful of people, who on this entire planet eats a so-called "balanced" diet?

He assumes that everyone has a well-balanced diet. Most people have horrific diets, therefore multivitamins can help.
No multivitamin in the world will fix a terrible diet.
Danny thats a red herring argument. vitamins are helpful regardless. id rather a guy on a terrible diet take the proper vitamins than not.
@@vanguard4065 something that is not regulated by the fda would be problematic to your health. The problem is eating properly and convenience is not the solution.
Garry Bobbins that’s a false premise because you state that the fda doesn’t approve therefore bad. wrong. the fda is not the arbiter of what is bad or good for you and not every food and drug outside of the fda is harmful. drinking too much water can kill you for instance.
Vanguard yeah I know that it’s just that we don’t understand enough about multivitamins than we do of food. Getting all your rda from a single pill isn’t how the body works.

I appreciate the "listen to your doctor" at the end, I've had people tell me I shouldn't take B12 supplements even after I tell them that my doctor told me to to fix my neuropathy
+wholeNwon We can assume that since his doctor ordered him to take the vitamins that he does *actually* have a need for them, so why the condescension?
wholeNwon I didn't ask because I thought there was a valid reason. I asked because it's none of your business what his doctor told him to take. As I understand it, the whole point of his comment was that despite having a valid, medical reason for the supplements, random people still inject themselves into a decision that should be solely between him and his doctor. Ironically, you show up to do exactly that.
My point was that we can ignore how unlikely it is that he actually needs it because we can assume neither he nor his doctor are idiots. You're making the exact opposite assumption. It's annoying and unhelpful. Stop it.
wholeNwon
You a doctor? If the answer is no you have no way of knowing what is wrong with me. If the answer is yes then you haven't seen me or examined the ,frankly uncomfortable, tests that I went through so you have no way to know what's wrong with me.
SO, STFU!
wholeNwon Good. Inform your own damn patients. Mind your own damn business.
So... 'wholeNwon' made an observation that wasn't really a personal attack and everyone flips out. And you people wonder why everyone is dishonest...
I definitely remember reading one potential reason for there being so much more than your RDA in the multivitamins: it's because taking vitamins in those forms is an inefficient way to absorb them, and we need to ingest a much larger amount than we typically get from food to actually absorb any. Just food for thought.
Exactly
Yup, Vit D is a perfect example. Our body usually gets it from being in the sun so isn't used to ingesting it. And different people need different amounts too.
@@shehran6936 so you're basically saying that sun rays carry vitamin D? Hahaha
Yeah, this is why the amount of B12 in B12 supplements is so much higher than other vitamins, apparently it's really, really poorly absorbed from supplements. Actually, some people can't seem to absorb enough from supplements period, even at extremely high doses, and have to rely on either injections or food sources (animal source products, like meat or dairy, which are the only foods that contain significant amounts of B12).
There are medical case reports of people getting severe, permanent nerve damage or even going blind from B12 deficiency despite taking supplements. B12 deficiency is some scary stuff.
@@DiegoSita actually the epidermis of your skin synthesizes in presence of UV and women tend to produce 3 times the amount men do for the similar exposure to sun
It seemed like you were trying _really_ hard not to say that multivitamins in moderation are beneficial if you don't have an ideal diet.
***** Yeah of course, but my point was that given that the title of the video is "Are multivitamins really good for you?", it would seem to be reasonable to actually directly state that multivitamins _are_ good for you (with caveats of course).
+Ashley Richmond what studies?
+skevoid To me it seemed like the answer was multivitamin supplements are not good for you. They have more than 100% of the UL dosage of fat soluble vitamins and that excess can cause health problems. On the other hand, a vitamin supplement that you are deficient in (like vitamin A for example) can be good for you if you aren't getting it in your normal diet and your doctor recommends it. So MULTIvitamins, are not good because you are getting some of those already just by eating food, a SINGLE vitamin supplement may be good for you if it's the right amount prescribed by the doctor or it's water soluble.
Multivitamin packaging lists the percentage of the RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance), they do not list the UL (Upper Limit), you'd have to go to the published studies to see if they provide more than the Upper Limits.
how hard is it to eat properly??? with the money you spend on multivitamins you could just buy proper food
"At best they probably aren't doing much"... later in the video " If you're deficient in any of them you can be prone to diseases "
They aren't doing much at best because you'd normally be getting your vitamins easily elsewhere.Otherwise, take your vitamin pills.
But isn't the correct logic to say "at best they can fill out your deficiencies and make you less prone to diseases"... Also I don't know if you're American or not but most likely the typical American diet isn't very complete.
+Romeo Casido You act like only Americans eat bad
Yeah, it would be the correct logic to say that. However your second sentence doesn't have much logic at all and makes you look bad (see RevolutionGamersH's comment).

it's probably a learned behavior, like when you're mouth waters when you see food. your body recognizes the bathroom and it triggers your learned response or urge.
+UberAwesomeMan9 maybe because peeing is a very basic biological need and the bathroom is more heavily associated with that specific behaviour so the two variables are more strongly paired, whereas those other places have more than one behaviour that you carry out there, for example you might watch tv on your bed or read etc you don't just sleep?
All I know is I started taking them 5 months ago and I feel like I different person. I workout 5 days a week and would get an injury at least once a month (muscle strain, nagging pains etc) but since I started taking MV's these pains have gone away and I havent been injured. Idk if its the MVs but Im going to keep taking them
I live in Canada and almost everyone here is recommended to take a vitamin D supplement. Hard to make that in the winter months.
And thank you for explaining the science really well
While everything said in this video is true, I also feel like it focused far too much on the bad sides. Reaching, much less exceeding, the UL is actually not very easy when consuming standard multivitamins at their recommended doses. Therefore, it is reasonably safe and common to use multivitamin supplements to ensure one reaches (or slightly exceeds) the RDA. It is only when one greatly exceeds the recommended dose, especially over long periods, that detrimental effects begin to show.
Personally, I take multivitamins even though I am eating somewhat healthy. And most of the time, I even take only a half dose especially when I feel like I've eaten particularly well that day.
The problem is most people, especially young people, eat only McDonald's and bacon these days. And they don't take multivitamins.

+stellarfirefly You're wasting your money.
Great video, ive been really hoping you all would cover this topic! Please please please do a vid on how to "eat a balanced diet" -- there's so much misinformation and unnecessary/harmful fat shaming out there, I feel like I'll never learn how to do it.
You guys do great work here on Sci-Show and it's greatly appreciated! However I don't feel as though that question was answered properly. You definitely answered the question, "Can taking too much vitamin supplements be harmful?" Of which the answer is of course, Yes. As well, a balanced diet is rare and honestly hard to acquire for most of the country currently living below their means and most people aren't going overboard with their supplements. If they're taking any at all that is and they're most likely taking cheaper multivitamins which tend to have 100% or less of the recommended daily values. Just a critic, no hate. :)
I agree. This video and almost EVERY video about vitamins basically just say "Hey, just eat a perfectly balanced diet and you don't need them."
But in reality, no one does that. So should I take a multivitamin? Can I take a half a multivitamin a day? Is it perhaps helpful to take one once a week? No one answers that.
didn't Adam already ruin this?

I started tale multivitamins awhile ago and I feel great. I don't feel tired at all. The package says to take 3 times a day but I thought that was to many so I just take one in the morning. Only use it on Monday to Friday and take a break on the weekends because I don't use that much energy
Thank you Thank you Thank you. I hope people keep spreading the word on this. I knew that it was a waste to take so much but didn't know it could also cause problems. Super helpful to know the distinction between fat disolvable and water disolvable. Thanks!
I was born with multiple deficiencies and vitamins, and food it doesn't exactly give me all of the vitamins that I need. So, in my case multivitamins are incredibly crucial.

Excelente vídeo, gracias por el magnifico trabajo.
Thank you SO MUCH for this video! ^__^ Personally, I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and people with EDS are advised to take massive doses of vitamin C -- 4g on an ordinary day and 6g if we have a viral/bacterial infection or if we're experiencing a flare-up of our EDS symptoms. But that's because of the role vitamin C plays in collagen synthesis, since collagen-related mutations (either in the collagen genes or in other genes that produce, for example, enzymes involved in the protein folding) are believed to be at the heart of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. There's a lot more going on with EDS than just collagen, but that's the part we mostly understand, at the moment.
We also tend to suck at synthesizing vitamin D, so most of us have to supplement that, too.
But it drives me insane to hear normal, healthy people with balanced diets raving about all the supplements they take "for their health". And don't even get me started on the whole "vitamin C prevents/cures colds" bullshit...! I'd really love to see you guys do a video on that, too -- the vitamin C vs colds myth. Please? =] xox
Gee, I know this comment is five years old, but I still feel the urge to thank you for these questions!
Well let's say that I, like the average American, have a diet of white flour and sugar. And that like the average American I don't really eat a "balanced diet." In that case are multi vitamins good?
The only way to know for sure if you need multivitamins is to get a blood test and if you don't know for sure you should not be taking them because they may be doing you harm. A blood test is not too much of a hassle assuming you have insurance and relatively easy access to a doctor. Most american diets in terms of vitamins will probably be fine and you won't need the multivitamins but it doesn't hurt to find out.
+deanmat
If you take cheap ones that don't have more than the RDA they won't do you any harm, and might help in case you are deficient. Worst that could happen is that you burned money, although it was not necessary.
They are good, but don't forget the marconutrients. If you don't have a balanced diet, chances are you are not getting enough protein and/or good fats. There is also a chance you are not consuming enough fiber, and excess sugar is not good either. Vitamins do not make hormones, proteins, or save you from excess sugar.
Hi! I am getting a suppository soon and i was wondering hoe big can they get? and when should i start preparing for it?
Food for thought! Good attitude and thanks for your observation.
The key words here is "balanced Diet". Most people dont eat a normal diet of fresh fruit and vegetables due to the cost and preparation time. In fact the increased consumption of fast food and heavily processed food can leave you with excesses of calories but a deficit on nutrients.
+Mysticfox2010 Exactly, and that's why I take a multi. I make no effort to eat healthily outside of getting a good balance of fats, carbs, protein and fiber, and I'm extremely healthy.
+Mysticfox2010 Bullshit its not costy, most of the time its cheaper.
+Mysticfox2010 A balanced diet is very easily achieved by simply not eating chicken nuggets soda and chips everyday. Most people in developed countries get all the vitamins they need from ordinary food.
The Wazoo
So you are saying you get 4 servings of carbs, 2-4 servings of fruit and veggies not including juice or canned on a daily basis? I call bullshit on that. Options like lettuce are low in nutrients.
+Mysticfox2010 That is an optimal diet, a balanced diet is way more lenient than the food pyramid that's generally taught as a guideline. A balanced diet just means you eat a variety of different things in a fairly consistent basis. I eat fruit maybe twice a week or once a week. Eat a decent amount of carbs and all that and I can safely say I'm getting all the vitamins I need. Could I be healthier? Absolutely! There are tons of nutrients that I could probably benefit from eating but not vitamins. I'm confident I eat a large enough variety of foods to supply me with all the vitamins I need
I already knew this was a "yes and a no" before I even clicked
Supplements can be very helpful though. When I fractured my wrist I was in a cast for 8 weeks - they rescanned it after 4 to see how it was doing and there was barely any improvement. After that I started taking calcium carbonate tablets every day, and when I went for a checkup in week 8 it was better than new.
I can easily listen to Michael on these short vids. He has that type of voice to narrate.
I'd love to see a video about vitamin D and how we produce it in different lattitudes. I live in Alaska, and the affect of SAD (seasonal affective disorder) is so much more pronounced here in Fairbanks than Seattle, WA, and even people there are affected by it. I thought of this cause we have to take a lot more vitamin D in winter, as we stop producing it.
Did you also know that part of the reason for skin colour is because of Vitamin D? Darker Skin absorbs the sun's rays better therefore get more Vit D from the Sun. Lighter skin didn't get that much sun being in the northern hemisphere and wasn't able to absorb Vit D as efficiently so instead got it through ingestion of things like Wheat.
@@shehran6936 The opposite. and wheat does not have vit D
@@anthonygreenfield123 just saying what you said doesn't make what I say untrue, you know that, right
I've said this before on a similar video, Multivitamins are probably one of the biggest reasons I am currently alive and quite healthy, I have an eating disorder called "Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder" (or ARFID) and have nowhere near a "balanced diet", I don't eat fruits, veggies, or meat (except bacon yum!) its pretty much dairy and grains.
I'd love to eat better and have a healthy balanced diet but that's just not in the cards for me (hypnotherapy may possibly help though), vitamins are very beneficial to people like me who suffer from ARFID.
Damn I thought this dude died on Captain Hook's ship 25 years ago. Glad to see he's alive and well.
THATS where he looks familiar from
So if your outside all day sum blazing dose your body keep making vitamin D or will it stop when it has enough?
Fun Fact:
If you get a multivitamin because you need more iron, most of the time, you might as well not take it. Most multivitamins have calcium in them and if you take calcium with iron you will absorb almost none of the iron not to mention it might make you feel really ill. As a person who has struggled with anemia this news was a revelation.
Looks like I'm screwed.
Navratna rasa is a Organic multi vitamin. Search it on amazon
So what do you take instead??
The thing is, if you DON'T get the right amount of vitamins, the supplements WILL be absorbed in your large intestine because your body knows the things it is deficient in. If you have too much vitamin D and you have a perfectly working thyroid gland and parathyroid glands, you are very unlikely to get something like hypercalcemia because again, your body knows when it has to much and your thyroid produces calcitonin which forces calcium excretion in the urine. It is very rare to get negative health defects from regular vitamin intake provided your other organs and glands function properly, and to function properly, they need the vitamins in the first place!
Well that was certainly more nuanced than I've seen most people who address this topic. I myself take a high does of D because I live in Ohio which is very cloudy much of the year. I take about 5000 units a day which keeps me functional. I really feel the difference. I actually blind tested myself without realizing it. Switched to a different brand for a while and misinterpreted the dosage per pill. Turns out I was actually only getting around 1250 units a day which had explained why I felt like I was having trouble focusing or stay awake. Brought my dose back up and I was able to think straight again. I'd been on the lower dose for about a month and I felt like death and was getting sick for the first time in more than a year. I take a number of other things that have had more noticeable effects. I keep what works and rotate out anything that doesn't.
QUICK QUESTION: Why is it that when you boil water on the stove, you see more water evaporating after you turn the fire off then when he fire was still heating the pan?
Sorry, but this one missed the mark. The title and opening remarks talked about multivitamins--but then went on to say that megadoses can be dangerous. Megadoses of nearly everything can be dangerous, even water and oxygen. It's true that large amounts of water soluble vitamins can lead to needlessly expensive pee, and that the fat soluble vitamins can potentially be toxic, but by multivitamins most people mean the one per day variety, and I challenge to you to cite a case where anyone who took these as directed suffered ill effects. It should also be noted that RDA's do not usually specify the age, sex, or mass of the taker. And it should also be pointed out that not everyone is eating anything near an ideal diet. Those simple and really inexpensive daily pills are the cheapest health insurance available. Of course they won't work forever. Neither will anything else. In the meantime, don't leave your house, don't drink the water, and don't breathe the air.
But why don't multivitamins replace the nutrients you get from a balanced diet? The the vitamins themselves the same in both sources?
Commenting to hear answer later
the video is very tricky, he keeps saying they don't replace healthy diet but he fails to say that if you dont eat healthy like most people then they will help supplement diet as in their name, stupid video.
Multivitamins can't replace the Carbs, Protein and Lipids needed to sustain energy within the body. All foods class contain some combination of those energy source including vitamins and/or minerals to keep the immune system running efficiently. A balanced diet means that you're receiving your recommended daily amount of all those sources of nutrients, meaning if you eat properly you shouldn't need to take supplements
+XpertCameraMan Vitamins are not the only nutrients you get from food, you also get things like proteins, fats, sugars, fibers, various minerals and other chemical that your body needs daily. Daily required doses of vitamins are very tiny compared to things like calcium, protein, fiber. Besides, the supplements you buy at the store are synthetic vitamins, which have been shown to not be as good for you as naturally derived vitamins that you get from food. Of course, if you want to replace all food with just supplements, there are meal replacement shakes like Ensure, which contain a balanced mix of all the things you should be getting in one healthy meal. But generally, supplements and meal replacements are targeted at people who cannot get enough of the necessary nutrients and vitamins from their diets, whether because they don't absorb them properly or because they have digestive issues. If you don't have a healthy balanced diet (which most people don't) it's not a bad idea to occasionally supplement it with these products.
In summary, if you eat like crap, take vitamins. Cool.
Hi can you do a video on how good turmeric is for your health?
thanks
I live in the north where the sun don't shine that much half the year so during the darkest parts of winter I think it makes sense to take a vitamin D supplement then stop taking it when I'm not leaving for work in the dark and going home in the dark. A doctor has never recommended this to me but I think it makes sense.
This has always been a question of mine about if vitamins are really good for you or unnecessary for some people. The truth is they are unnecessary to some who think they need to take them. I understand there are people that for whatever reason are deficient in some vitamins, common ones like vitamin D or vitamin C but without being told that you are deficient in these, you should not take vitamins. Annual physicals tell you whether you are in need of certain vitamins, nutrients and many other things, so don't play doctor and take it upon yourself to take vitamins when there is no need. Fat-soluble vitamins are the ones that you should be concerned about physically. Water-soluble are not as big of a deal because like he said, you just pee those out where as the fat-soluble vitamins can build up and cause a toxicity. Those that take vitamins without the consultation with a doctor are just wasting money and putting themselves at risk for vitamin toxicity.
You need to make a distinction between vitamins and vitamin supplements because at first I thought you meant vitamins are unnecessary to some people but I think you meant vit supplements are unnecessary to some.
Recommended daily value is from the government... Nuff said
+Alex Minor The recommended daily value is crap...if I'm on the verge of catching a cold, for instance, I WANT 500% of my daily recommendation of Vitamin C on THAT DAY, because that day is not an AVERAGE day.

I don't know if it's because I don't live in America, but the vitamins I take every once in a while have like 80% RDA maximum. And some vitamin's are even less prevalent, is it still healthy if they just help you in small doses, seeing as I don't eat a ton of vegetables and fruits?

Yes. The only reason for multivitamin pills is to deliver the normal daily recommended dose in case you have a crappy diet. And your body doesn't mind where it's coming from.
+Megult I was going to say the same thing. The fat soluble vitamins are a tiny fraction of the RDI. Also the labels don't give percent RDI or percent UL. Both would be super handy and not hard to implement. I'm in Australia.

they were children's vitamins so they were basically candy
The Multivitamin Industry strives on the claim that the "recommended doses" are wrong, in order to take them down for good you need to adress that point :).
Interesting. My doctor noticed I was quite low on vitamin D awhile back and prescribed vitamin D supplements. I noticed that the ones you buy in the store max out at 5000 IUs, but the prescription vitamins she prescribed were 50,000 IUs. I was only supposed to take them twice a week, though. Not sure what the RDA is in terms of IUs (or even what the IU unit really is... but all vitamin D supplements seem to use that same unit). I always wondered why the prescription was not something I took daily, instead megadoses twice a week. It worked, though, and got my levels back up to where they're supposed to be.
When I was a kid I ate the Flintstones vitamins like they were candy.. Do they still make those?
Is there any benefit of (not) masturbating?
+FirePaw493 asking the real question
+FirePaw493
at all? only if you're having sex to completion 5+ times per week. Then there can be the social benefit of avoiding stigma while not endangering your long-term health... assuming proper use of protection or a combination of monogamy and surgical sterilization.
There's an idea for a study: what's worse for your health, middle age prostate cancer or raising children nonstop from sexual maturity until death?
You might loose your body muscles if you don't eat enough proteins or calories for the amount of masturbation.
I think you go blind if you do that.
Of course, for one you don't waste your seed, which is a complex fluid that the body created from a lot of raw material. By not masturbating you save yourself from getting nutritional deficiency. Type no fap challenge on you tube
I'm usually good at "listening" to my body. I had a time where I felt a bit droopy, lacking energy, so I took Magnesium supplements and I was right back on track and cram-packed with energy. My body also occasionally _(e.g. during times of illness or similar),_ send signals to my brain to crave a certain food, foods that tend to ward off whatever is wrong and make me feel healthy again or at least greatly reduce the ailment.
I take a vitamin pill every night before bed. A lady at the pharmacy gave me that tip, but I was already doing that, due to my way of living.
Is that placebo?
*great information I didn’t know that*
Wait what if my doctor prescribed me multi vitamins should I still take them? I'm not sick or anything and I'm 15 and 5'11
Anyone who says "first" gets struck by a Blue Shell.
Super Horn :P
Doesn't saying 1st count as a blue shell target?
+J3ZTYR yup. That's why it works!
+Mistergamer9892 Mushroom boost out of it
+ZeeK Gameplays not in mk8
my cartoons are multivitamin for the braininium
lmao
soooooo what if I don't eat right what if I'm already nutrient deficient can vitamins help then?
does the same go for cod liver oil supplements? (im assuming 'yes')
Whoa, does Michael have a glass eye?
He has 2 glass eyes actually
+FearlessP4P1 proof?
+confiscator And a glass neck... its nerve shattering to watch him pick stuff up off the floor.
+Full-Metal_Jacob I see what you did there
+confiscator i don't get it
Also, just a thought for anyone who's on a restricted diet, like a vegetarians, vegans for example, it might be a good idea to talk to your doctor about taking some supplements, like iron, to replace some of the vitamins you're not getting as a result of cutting out meat and other animal byproducts.
+argella1300 Meat isn't everything, you can live a full and normal life without it, even a better one, for vegans it's a bit harder, but still possible, you just gotta know what your eating.
+nicynodle2 I know. That's not what I was saying at all. If you actually read what I wrote, I was suggesting that it would be a good idea for people on restricted diets, like vegetarians and vegans, to talk to their doctor about possibly going on a supplement regimen. Because I don't care what you eat, being anemic is never good.
+argella1300 You dont need suplement for iron, if you dont eat meat. Most dark green vegetable has good amount of it. Also, vegetarian diet only lack B12, which you will need to buy it... once... a year.
argella1300 So not eating meat means you anemic? And if you don't eat meat you might as well take pills rather then do a 2 second google search to find out how to get a balanced diet without any meat?
+Arkabol not really. That's a myth. Sure there's a little bit, but not a ton. The myth that dark green veggies, spinach in particular, has a ton of iron in it is due to a misplaced decimal point in a study done in the early 1900s. Cracked.com has an article about it, I think.
My concern is to replenish any other vitamins that contain in Multi Vitamins. I might get enough dosage those mentioned Vits in my food but how about others? Eg Calcium, Iron, Folic Acid etc?
Hey can you guys do an episode on Himalayan salt lamps? My family just got one cuz they supposedly ionize the surrounding air to help clear out airborne particles and I'm not sure if/how this black magic works.
Sounds about right. My understanding is vitamins and minerals supplements are really only useful if there's a major deficiency.
Er....this video sounds like it was made in the 50's (about when the vitamin dosage standards were created). I expected something better from you guys.
thank you , my mom need to see this
I'm curious about this concept as it applies to B vitamins. Are they water soluble? Because I know a lot of people who take massive doses of them on a regular basis via "energy" supplements.
lol you should learn about how they came up with the RDA values...
How did they?
@@PaperBagMan884 Go learn my man.
@@pearljameric You have to point me in the right direction. If I look up "how did they come up with RDA values", I'm only going to get pre approved filtered mainstream lies, not the truth.
my girl loves vitamin D ;)
Vitamin D!cK
Question:
Since vitamins that are water soluble (B and C) exit the body if there an excessive amount, is that a problem? Since they are not being stored can it still cause some type of toxicity like the fat soluble ones?
yes my grandpa ate 4 oranges and died. he was 82 but it could be the oranges
@@vazsa7387 oh wow I’m so sorry to hear that, and thank you for answering my question hope you’re going good!
The video didn't even answer the question, it just went off on an overdose tangent.
So what you're saying is that nutrition is complicated and there is no single simple solution to being healthy? Who would have thought.
It's only complicated when the person is too stubborn to learn about nutrition
Verdiss pay attention to the video he said that getting the right amount of vitamins is good for you but too much is bad
+Verdiss It's not that complicated. Don't eat a bunch of garbage and waste your money on useless pills.
Does wiping my butt more than 4 times cause cancer??
+Emmett Del I wiped it 5 times. I don't think you'll get ass cancer.
+Nechii Ambrose WHAT THE FUCK AMERICANS !!how in the hell do you live without washing with water after pooping, wiping is not clean enough !!!I can only imagine the smell in crowded places where people only wip
Asim Al-rowaili When you barely reek of anything like me, I see no need in washing every day. I'm not exposed to the outside world (Clearly a hermit), and when I do I'm back indoors. Deodorant takes care of the only thing that makes me smelly.
+Asim Al-rowaili believe me I wish we used bidets
I couldn't care less about your smell, but dude its personal hygiene, even if you are indoors 24\7 it feels good to be clean
hey scishow can you do a video on how sound can be blocked by walls even though it isn't physical l.
Does the body resorb these isolated vitamins just as good as it does the vitamins contained in food?
I have an overdose story... One day I decided to eat a gummy bear vitamin, and while I was chewing I realized there was two stuck together, but by that time I had already swallowed. Be careful everyone, it's a harsh world out there.
A harsh world indeed.... 4 years later.
It's safe bro 😅
Welp...
I always take 6 multivitamin chews like they're regular gummies
would love to learn more about vitamins/suppliments!
I have to take vitamin B and D
Almost everyone should
In northern countries (northern Scandinavia, Iceland, Faroes...) with limited sunlight and/or lots of storms during the winter (+spring and autumn, to be honest), there is an epidemic of vitamin D deficiency every late spring - the people have been deprived of sunshine for 3-5 months x)
+Kieran Waugh You can get both of them from foods, so not everyone should. Just those why can't get it from food, or have other issues when it comes to digesting them.
+Kieran Waugh not everyone should. Vit D, well yes if you are sun deprived, but vitamin B is available in a variety of foods, particularly eggs, so go eat some eggs now.
+diana rodriguez espinosa the amount of vitamin b in eggs doesn't matter if your body can't absorb it. mine doesn't so i have to inject myself once a month to get any.
Thanks for the dumb down.
example: Very big difference in tolerance levels of Vit D2 and D3, but you dumb it to Vit D.
If you are going to call your report science, don't just blabber old misconceptions.
thank you for telling me this
where did you buy that jacket?
This was really unscientific for SciShow. Y'all should re-do this one with more concrete info on the different sides of the question.
i took multivitamins and fish oil for months so my hair would grow healthier, it really didnt. thanks scishow :D
Switch it to fish oil and biotin
+Xextreem You know that hair grows, right?
Look up hair follicles.
liljubsy biotin actually made my nails weaker and i didnt like it.
xextreem, i know hair is dead but there is such thing as it being healthy since my hair is curly its naturally dry so i do what i can to make it not so brittle. and since when does oranges go on ur head? make shit up mate
idk fish oil?
aww shit
I'm a 200 lb male. Is my RDA the same as my 120 lb wife? If not, is it a linear relationship (i.e. should I adjust proportionally)?
I always get a headache whenever I take multivitamins.
It's weird, and its been that way my whole life. I do have a weird brain compared to most ppl though since I have a larger brain, as well as a greater number of the folds in the brain (Sulci, gyri, and fissures.) But I am unaware if that were any reason to cause a headache when taking multivitamins.
+Little Miss Dysthymia no.. it's not the niacin. niacin does make people hot and red faced, but it can also raise BP for some ppl causing headaches.
actually niacin is often recommended for ppl with headaches and it can help if taken over time with them. I used to take it for concussion headaches.
what about specific dietary supplements?
