We love shopping at farmers markets and stands. Recently we started to notice some "farm stands" are not truly farmer produce outlets. We stopped at one place along the highway, that wasn't at a farm. The sign said "Farmer's Produce". When asked where their farm is located, the lady said that they aren't farmers. Their name is Farmer, so they opened "Farmer's Produce", and buy from the produce wholesalers. We've also come across people selling wholesale produce at summer farmer markets. A little underhanded, if you ask me. But, buyer beware. Now, we always ask about the farm, to make certain we're buying farm produce.

Visiting roadside farm stands is one of my favorite things to do here in Western Pennsylvania. We live near a lot of Amish so we also have an assortment of baked goods at the stands. I have a weakness for Amish donuts, they usually draw me in when I see the signs out. LoL
I hope you are well and I look forward to more of your videos. Thanks you for sharing your time and knowledge with us.

I sure wish we had farm stands like that here. Our "Farmers Markets" are simply where people get together to sell cases of produce they bought from the same place supplying the grocery stores. None of them are actually grown by the people selling them so you have no idea about their quality or what chemicals were used on them.

I keep praying it is going to happen. Most people don't understand me, they say just go to the store and buy it. Chemicals has landed me in the hospital and I will not just eat anything. I have a organic farm close but can't buy much. God will provide and I will make it some how on what we have. Thank you for caring.

We have a farmstand on our farm and do the honor system as well. Have had some great repeat customers and neighbors who stop by often. Right now its a simple tent and table like in the video but as time progresses we hope to build a dedicated building as a farm market. We are in Kentucky and sell at our local farmers market in town which is good for now but as our farm grows, hopefully our customer base will too and a farmstand on site, that pulls customers to our farm and generates income is the goal. Great video, thanks for posting.

Very nice video! Those honor system boxes sadly would not work where I live! The first time I’d heard of something similar was when my daughter was younger and we went to my parents home in SC over Halloween and so many houses had a big bowl of candy on the porch with a note: ‘please take one’ 😂 I was so taken back! I mean even me as a kid would be so tempted to take a handful!

I live se of Atlanta. The family i bought from for 30 years had to retire. He'd go to the large farmers market, get a large load and sell it at a nice stand close to my house. So someone picked up were he left off but the quality isn't 1/2 as good. Another place, in Kellytown is pretty large. Very hot inside like a sauna! But he sells great stuff. Peaches melt in your mouth. Takes debit etc, has a small refrigerator for more delicate produce. Huge bins of watermelon. Just about every thing you can imagine.

In my little town, we have four different farmer's markets. I love farm stands, but have only found them in pretty rural areas. It always surprises me to find them set up on the honor system, but I'm told they seldom come up short on the money. Or if they're short $5 one day, they might be long $5 a few days later - I guess someone used the honor system to borrow some veggies and pay later. I'm not sure that system would work so well in town, but I'd be curious to know how it goes, if anyone has any experience with that.

bsofar I'm in southern Indiana. I stop often at these stands on our back roads. Most all of them here have honor boxes. Some don't even lock them. I opened one the other day to pay for my purchase and it was full of money. I stopped the next day to get more tomatoes and the owner was there, putting out more vegetables. I ask if he had any trouble with getting shorted or even people stealing his money. He said no one had ever stolen money and most people even leave a little more than they owe. I normally leave a dollar or two extra, especially when their prices and quality are good. Most stands here are very reasonable on prices. I got ripe red tomatoes for 25 cents each big bags of green beans for $2.00. And small pears-2 for a quarter. Tomatoes average $1-$2 a pound. Fresh sweet corn-$2-$3 a dozen. The quality is normally very good at these stands and cheaper than the store. I love shopping at them. Never know what they will have out. Most of the time no one is watching the stand. But when they are they are always very friendly. I've even had them run to the garden to pick something I was wanting if there were no more on the table. I encourage all people to buy from these local sellers. Friendly service, good prices and usually very good quality food.

The honor system is very interesting. We have two local people who sell from their homes but the food comes from the farmer's market. A couple of larger established ones a bit farther out too. once a year one of our local strawberry field becomes a you pick. The folks who collect the money, wear side arms in shoulder holsters. They were robbed a few years ago and want to prevent it from happening again. We also have u-pic grapes and blueberries. no honor system though. it is good to see you. God Bless

Hi hun nice to get out for a drive in the countryside.I love farm fresh produce it tastes great.I love beets and put salt on them to eat.Lavender flowers are soo pretty and smell great.I usually get a small watermelon, and a big bag of oranges and apricots for fruits.Up in Winter's Ca.just a little ways up the road going towards Putah Creek they have a great fruit stand with all kinds of fruit and vegees. Also there are farmers just om the side of the highway getting off the exit selling watermelons, and at a gas station selling bags of fresh sweet oranges. We have Farmer's markets here in Berkeley and cities next to us selling nice produce.I can't find an Apple in the stores that has a good apple taste.Farmer's market's are more expensive here ,but it's worth it for the nutritional and the taste value to pay a little more for it.Soo nice to see you hun.I hope everything is going very well for you these days. You are looking well.God Bless and thanks for the trip to the farmer's stands.Hope you got a bunch of good vegees and fruits you enjoy.♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡.....

I live in NC, in a farming community. The local farms have stands by the road in some areas, but also have you-pick areas on their farms with 'stores' in their barns during peak season. The roadside stands are cash only (internet is still 'iffy' in some areas, even with MiFi). I will have to check to see if the "barn stores" accept SNAP cards or not.

Thanks for taking us out in the Wisconsin countryside. I love the scenery. The farm stands are nice, we don’t really have those where I live, in SW Idaho. I have thought of putting out a table with a few things and a box for money, but I have wondered about the teenagers down the street helping themselves to the money. We do have a recently organized farmer’s market a couple blocks away in our tiny town, so that’s really nice. And we have others in neighboring towns as well.

I live in Southern California, I have yet to see a fruit stand that hasn't already been commercialized to the point where it isn't worth stopping. Most of the prices are the same at the grocery store or higher, (if you can find any). I'm not looking for cheap; but, fresh at a decent price. :-(

Well my point is enjoy what you have and where you have it. If your garden didn't produce the harvest you wanted or the vegetables you needed to can then go out there and pick up a harvest from your friends and neighbors and can that. Be greatful for what you have and what you save, for the times are a changing. :-)
