To everyone complaining about the lack of double-clutch and rev matching, remember that this is talking about HR-B (Synchromesh). This is for trucks with a manual transmission that drive more like cars. That being said, the video does accidentally show "Double-Clutch" a bit early on when it lists covered topics.
I think it is not a good idea when your engine rpm come to 700 during downshifting, and outputshaft rotates adequate 1500 rpm. And this video told me just release the clutch? Such action at minimum wear clutch disks and jerk a truck. I am sure, all good drivers blip the throttle before clutch release.
@@АлександрКоловрат-и1н A fair point, however the synchro is supposed to handle the rev mismatch for you. The things that will cause jerkiness are too high of a road-speed when you release, or if you release the clutch too fast. When driving synchro I can get smooth downshifts so long as I slow enough and just take a touch longer releasing (of course, you don't want to coast and exhaust/engine brakes are not going to work with the clutch in).
@@MediaWilly There are four ways. 1. If road speed=idle rpm actual gear, you just release clutch; 2. If road speed higher a little and you want to deccelerate, you make a blip to gas and release clutch; 3. If road speed higher a little and you want to continue moving, you adjust gas and holding it, release clutch (like a second part of upshifting); 4. If your road speed is too higher, but you go uphill and need drop one gear, you make blip the throttle, and after that release clutch and simultaniously press gas enough deeply. I think, these ways are the best for downshifting procedure, when you changed gear and think, how correctly release clutch and give gas. Are you agree?)

Standard MR/HR licences in Aus are done in synchromesh trucks. You have to specifically use a constant mesh truck to be allowed to drive said trucks. I want to do mine, just to cover all bases. Better to be able to drive everything rather than most things :P

I've seen 2 things in this video that isn't right... Where's the double clutching while shifting up and or down gears? Where's the Rev Matching while Down Shifting?
I just passed my HR on Monday with a "licence in a day" course; but I don't feel in any way prepared for work in the Transport & Logistics industry. What can I do as an extra to help bridge an experience gap before I feel safe enough to get behind the wheel full-time?
You posted this comment 2 years ago.... how did you get on. I have recently done a MR "licence in a day" course. You are quite right... there is a definite feeling of "I don't feel prepared". When I start my new job, I am going to see if I can get another heavy vehicle licenced driver to accompany me, until I feel competent.
I've seen other videos that you double clutch the gear. In every change first you clutch to neutral and then you clutch to gear. Why don't you do it in this video?
Dont be...its hard at first but just do it...i went from having only driven 2 automatic cars in my life to driving trucks at 44yrs old it was so hard but like anything you wnt badly you have to see yourself succeeding because if you dont you will give up defeated before you even try. I had to go to driving school 2x to get my classA. The hard part now a days is finding a carrier with manual so you can get some experience driving manual transmission...goodluck
We’re all beginners at the start My first car was a manual with syncing issues and then I had 3 automatic cars and then when I drove at work it was a manual. It’s just a learning process and I think You can learn how to drive a manual don’t give up and believe in yourself and it will come to you.
I am learning synchromesh HR after only holding an automatic car licence. It's a steep learning curve for sure but it's doable, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who's done this.
Good to see you do not teach people in a crash box. Or you would have your both feet working going down the gear box and you did not mention the ex- brake . When slowing down with a heavy load that's what it's for . Show them how to use that as well. Yes do a walk around at least put all the lights on and check everything oil as well and coolent
There would be a massive rev difference between those gears. It would not be recommended until you reduced your speed to a point where your revs wouldn't skyrocket but you should always come down your gears anyway in a truck as the lower gear helps you to reduce speed. I only drive a 6 speed but I'll often drop from 6th to 4th but I wouldn't skip any other gears.
@@XaviRonaldo0 Thanks for reply. Imagine, we encounter a situation when we have to downshift from 4th directly to 1st. In a manual car, we are allowed to do that. In my old car, I have to do double-clutch in order to smoothly do so, otherwise my car will judder. But in a truck, like in this video, it didn't mention about skipping gears, even only one gear such as from 4th to 6th or vice versa like you do.
Is there a video that explains the different license classes it’s a bit confusing to me as a non Aussie to get a grip on. If I have a cat C license can I drive a truck without trailer on it?
In Australia the licence classes are as follows and I'm pretty sure is standardized across all states. C (car) licence is anything up to a GVM (gross vehicle mass) of 4.5 tonne or 12 or less seats. LR (light rigid) is above 4.5t but no more than 8t. MR (medium rigid) allows you to drive any vehicle with only 2 axles. HR (heavy rigid) is required for a vehicle above 4.5t that has 3 or more axles. Note that all rigid licences except a car licence may tow a trailer up to 9 tonne GVM as long as it doesn't exceed the GCM (gross combined mass) of the towing vehicle. Also note that even if the vehicle is unloaded you still require the licence type according to the GVM of the vehicle. HC (heavy combination) is required for a vehicle such as a semi trailer or a truck & dog trailer due to these trailer having a GVM of more than 9t. MC (multi combination) is the highest licence class and it allows to drive anything and is required for towing more than 1 heavy trailer such as a B double or even a road train which is 3 or more trailers. You also need to sit a test in a non synchromesh gearbox truck to be allowed to drive them. Otherwise you may only drive a synchromesh or automatic transmission. Hope this helps...
