So frustrated about David, he was the only player who could have challenged Federer in that era. Still my favourite player :) When he plays, it's like watching a master class of tennis. And that backhand is just something else.

@@Irfan87 Safin was great, don't get me wrong, he was outclassing his opponents with his sheer power and athletics. I think Nalbandian was a true strategist, it's like watching a chess game, he made the game so beautiful. They both lacked a bit of work ethics and mental strength, relying too much on their natural abilities. I just think Nalbandian had the raw talent to become one of the greatest If... But as Nadal said, in life, there's no If :)

You should wish he was not lazy and would work back from injuries. He had serious injuries at 22,23 Yr old and did jot work to return to form. Even before his coach said that when a few years back he took Marcos, Marcos was super lazy and a mess. The coach pushed him. To focus and he reached this level but then after the injury agaub he did not put the work to return to form.

Up to this day, I still can't believe how this match was not won by Nalbandian. Surely, this is the worst defeat of his career. I think he had the chance to win the championship against Federer. An incredible opportunity missed by one of the best shotmaker of tennis' history. Baghdatis was being outplayed up to 6-3 and 5-1 but Nalbandian gave Marcos the chance to comeback.
I saw this match live in 2006 in Argentina and I almost cried at the end of it. I was so frustrated by this result that I didn't even see the final. So dissapointed to end the tournament like this.

    • @alejandrodelvalle9311

Definitely this was a match Nalbandian should've won, like many others. But for me the worst loss of his career was the 2003 US Open semis vs Roddick. Two sets to love up and a match point on the third set. Would have probably won the US Open with that opportunity.

Yes. So frickin' frustrating to look back at all the wasted chances. Roddick USOpen SF 2002 (if I remember correctly), here with Baghdatis with the match in his hands. And I bet I could find some RG wasted matches as well. All these, while he was in his prime years. After 2010 Nalbandian tried to come back, but sincerely after 2008 he was done. His years were between 2002 and 2008. Won some nice tournaments, but wasted the grand slams chances. In our days, he would have trained with a sport psychologist. That would have helped him in the 2000's. Well, cheers for the future. I will certainly show how this guy played to my kids, when they grow a bit older.

However, for those willing to read, I'd like to see a few matches in classics:

    - Nadal vs Kyrgios this year
    - Federer vs Sandgren this year

No, he went far to one more grand slam a few months later. he was constantly at top10 for 2 years. He then got a serious injury when 22 or 23, and he was a lazy ass and did not work his way back to form. His coach said that he was a lazy mess at 17-18 as well but the coach had pushed him. But apparently when the injury at 22,23 he did not put the work to recover to good form and so after injury from top10 he turned to top20-top30 player even when in better age than before.
