safin was my favourite player still remembering him that he was the only one who went toe to toe against a prime federer back then if it wasnt for injuries marate probably will be there with federer djoko and nadal
Hewitt and Murray for mine were similar kettles of fish, They just always knew how to stay in the point long enough and although there were certainly more talented players in their time - They were able to be consistent enough to win Majors when others may not of played their best or had a day of peaks and declines where the eveness of Murray or Hewitt would be overall better in the day. no he wasn't
Marat Safin - one of the very few players who had a better head to head against Pete Sampras : 4-3.
The retired Pete Sampras you mean. Sampras stopped training at 28 years old and wanted to quit. But was too sun age wise so. He played another 2-2.5 years. But he didn't win stuff those 2 years and was losing to many people, since was not training. He then took back his old coach and told him to. Bring him back to fitness for a final run at home. And won the US open at 31yr old and then retired.
Sampras stopped training alot before. I think in 1998 or 1999.
Sad Hewitt never won a slam in his home country
This was his opportunity
Yet still no Aussie has won an Australian open since 1976.
@@mike04574no way he’s beating the guy who beat fed, who’s been owning Hewitt
This umpire is the one! And both he players are very impressing... thx for the great final!
12:36 that point should never have been replayed. Hewitt played the ball in the net BEFORE the out call so he was not hindered!
13:47 the exact same backhand shot Safin made in the semi-final led Federer trip down. But Hewitt maintained his balance.
The only ever grand slam where the Big 3 all participated in and neither reached the final
Why on earth were the second break by Safin in set 3, and his break in set 4 not shown?
Partidazos. 🇦🇷👏🏻
Guys I miss Safin,Nalbandian,Coria etc
Weak era
@@gabrielgrajeda8194 yeah... Sure....Prime Marat or Nalbandian would kick Djokoshit or Murray 3:0 like nothing
@@tenja42 Is that why murray has more slams than both of them combined xD
Coria was "one-season player", but from RG-2004 to RG-2005 was extremely amazing)
@@aleksamilosevic8792 Murray were grabbed a few GS touraments while one of third great high-age guys were ill, and other two were beating each other.
Nowadays is a weak era, three 32+ years old guys hold top-3 for many years. It's not normal.
This man safin had the game to match Federer... If only he had been more consistent ...
Safin is one of the few players who can boast they beat a prime Federer on his best day (2005 Semifinal AO win). Safin was a great talent who never lived up to it.
What ever happened to Peter Lungren? I mean he was Federers coach for the first Slams then something happened there, Federer doesn't even mention him, then he wins a Slam with Safin and then ... what ever happened to this guy, anyone knows?
Una bestia del tenis marat safin
really disappointed that day hewitt battled so hard to get to the final only to lose
О Марат ! Ты Супер !
Joueur beau à voir jouer, aurait mérité plus de titres.
Roger Federer generation players.
and he still plays nowadays. What a legend
Weak era
@@gabrielgrajeda8194 he made it look weak
@@AnandSivaram22 Yes, maybe, his level was brutal.
AnandSivaram22
No they were just weak
Встреча двух легенд тенниса это всегда очень интересно !
that was one well-earned, well-deserved AO title for Marat..........
Lleyton Hewitt got just about everything out of his career that a scrapper like him could, while Safin is the poster boy for "What Might Have Been." At his very, very best, he may have been the greatest player of all time ... but he was a head case, and possessed zero consistency. Historically, that makes this such an intriguing match-up.
Epic celebration
Hewitt was ridiculous sometimes haha. He could Scream for winning against a mouse or a cow ^^>
15:59 "Too good" What a gentleman
I remember liking Hewitt's shirt but thinking it was weird that it was so similar to Federer's
fantastic game
Which one
Сейчас уже теннис какой-то скучный. А вот тогда лампово было смотреть.
safin was my favourite player still remembering him that he was the only one who went toe to toe against a prime federer back then if it wasnt for injuries marate probably will be there with federer djoko and nadal
What a hard fought match.
I always thought Hewitt doesn't have a great serve, forhand, backhand or volleys how the hell is he a Top 10 player.. ? Can anyone explain?
Hewitt and Murray for mine were similar kettles of fish, They just always knew how to stay in the point long enough and although there were certainly more talented players in their time - They were able to be consistent enough to win Majors when others may not of played their best or had a day of peaks and declines where the eveness of Murray or Hewitt would be overall better in the day.
Murray of course is >>> Hewitt but I see similarities of what they brought to their era's.
Lightning quick, great defense, grinder
