    Things to take note of:
Boris Becker was in 5 finals, won 3 titles
Becker won in 1989, lost to Edberg in 1990; Forget then won in 1991 and lost to Becker in 1992; Nalbandian won in 2007 and lost to Tsonga in 2008; Ferrer won in 2012, lost to Djokovic in 2013; Medvedev won in 2020 then lost to Djokovic in 2021
All of Safin's titles happened in consecutive even-numbered years, winning against Australians in the first 2
Federer won his first Grand Slam 8 years before he won this Masters 1000 title
Djokovic won the title before Federer
Djokovic won three times consecutive, the first time it ever happened
Lendl and Nadal never won this title

Many of the all-time greats are here, yes, but - but the number of one-offs is spectacular. Rune, Khachanov, Soderling, Rusedski, Ferrer, Berdych, Henman, Sock and Grosjean (what the...?!) - none of them won another masters 1000 in their whole careers. (I' don't think Mansdorf and Mayotte did, either.) Rune should change that in the years to come, but who knows - did Karen? And what finalists even! Stepanek, Krajinovic, Rosset, Hrbaty, Pavel, Shapovalov - names to remember, with difficulty. Unique masters event, no question about that!
