I wish I would have seen this video prior to replacing our RV floor. Your description of the issues is exactly right. The pieces of carpet for the slide out is a great idea.
Appreciate your after installation review, including valuable information for practical normal use. To me it’s more important than just showing how to install.
What we eventually did was just buy a carpet runner instead of the carpet scrap. That way we don’t have to remove it when the slide is out and it looks great. Thanks for watching
I have been looking for a video for the rolled vinyl flooring install, and here it is! I appreciate the detail in the process. I would've never thought of a template first.
I pulled my slide out totally off today to remove the flooring underneath. Now, I'll staple a permanent strip of protective carpet on the front of the slide edge before I re-install. Thanks for saving me some scratches!
Thank you very much. Very informative as I didn’t know about the slides rubbing. It makes sense because on ours the carpet wraps around and under the slide. This would make sense being the buffer or glide for the surface.
I appreciate the insight about the drop of the slide when you take out the carpet. The carpet strips are a fantastic idea. We live in our home full time, however, we have heard it's good to bring in our slides every couple months to keep them in good working order.
You’re probably correct. Any mechanical or moving part needs to be used every so often to just to make sure it works correctly and that it will work when you most need it to. Thanks for watching
Thank you for making and posting this video. I agree, there are way too many issues to deal with in regards to it staying down and separating at the seams. I saw RV Tito did his with no glue and it’s a vinyl planks that lock together. But I like your feedback and wisdoms. I pulled up my carpet thinking there would be final all the way but not, it went about 8 inches past a vent so the last 3 feet of my RV is plain particle boArd so I need to take out the old and put in a new one that covers the entire floor. And I am also with you on the slide out and the transition of the slide.
Thanks for the tips yes I watched the "other" video and I had questions regarding the wisdom of installing household plank (thick) vinyl flooring in a situation where there's extreme temps. I believe they make special rv flooring because of that. Also like everyone wonders is the slide out issue. Basically gonna take some detective work and knowledge before proceeding. Thanks for the great video.
Thanks for the details on the slide out. Extremely worried about just slopping down some flooring under where the slide out "slides" and impacting function.
As to the vinyl plank over hang we cut a 3” piece of planking and put it under the over hang for travelling and storage. I supports the vinyl and protects it from stepping in it and causing damage. When using Rv, the flooring piece it sits in storage compartment until needed again.
Great video! Very helpful! I’m in the middle of deciding what to put down and am really thinking of a solid sheet of good vinyl; especially after watching... Appreciate it!
Thanks for a great video. Pointed out issues to consider that I wasn't even aware of. Want to change our floor, and am no reconsidering the material I'll use.
I saw the same video with the scratch. Ugh! No place safe to lay out sheet vynil where I am parked. Mostly gravel. I am going to look into GLUING the planks. Not peel n stick. But interlock LVP w/ glue. We'll see which direction my research leads. I live full time in my RV. Parked in the same spot for 3 years. Wish me luck.
The floor has worked out great. No issues at all and it been almost 3 years. We’re actually in it right now staying in Arizona for 2 months. Would definitely do it again. Thanks for watching
I was thinking about doint this to my 2013 Montana this spring. Great video. I want to replace both the carpet under the dining room table and kitchen/bath vinyl. This is very helpful. You said trimming after the templat-ing was time consuming. Would you try to get it right the first time with the template if you did it again?
The only way to get a precise fit is to trim once it’s installed otherwise too much of a chance for errors. I don’t know what material the carpet was made of. We found a remnant that was the texture and thickness we wanted. Thanks for watching
I have an older mobile home and will be ripping out carpet. I've wondered if after sanding wood floor...that composite-type, I believe, if it would be wise to prime and paint, or just paint...to give added protection to the wood before laying down vinyl (is that linoleum?). I too, like the idea of one solid piece. So, question: Will that cause any adhesive improper adhesion...due to the paint? Even if roughened a bit with light sanding? Also, great video, tips, and right to the point. Thanks!
The new vinyl replaced the old linoleum. I don’t know if the adhesive would stick to paint. Going right over the wood flooring would be the best way to eliminate any adhesion issues as that is what the glue is made for. Hope this helps and thanks for watching .
What kind of glue brand did you use, I am not sure what I should use being I am pulling up an old piece of linoleum and it is glued around the edges so I want to use same glue but not sure what kind it is. Thanks
Actually I don’t know. The owner of the flooring store gave me his 5 gallon container to use. Once I was finished I returned it and paid him $20. Can’t beat service like that. Just find glue compatible with your flooring or recommendation from your flooring store and you’ll be OK. Thanks for watching
did you glue the entire sheet or just the perimeter? I am wondering about expansion with hot and cold, my old 2008 5th wheel vinyl cracked under extreme cold when stored over winter. From pulling it up the manufacturer just stapled the edges, maybe a bit of glue.
Unfortunately I didn’t make a video installing the floor because of time constraints using the adhesive and the amount of room to try and work and film at the same time. Thanks for watching
Yes but right now my wife and I are traveling in our RV. We’ll be home in a few weeks. I have receipt for flooring at home and I’ll be glad to give you the info. Thanks for watching
Sorry but I don’t know. The owner of the flooring store gave me a 5 gallon bucket of his glue to use and I returned it when finished. I’m sure any high quality glue for vinyl flooring should be fine
Put luan down, prime it then gorrila glue (very thin wipe) on each plank around parameter and in middle which helps to slide into place. Use heat gun on each plank. Rectangle piece of carpet rug for slide. No issues here...knock on wood
I just installed expensive flooring and even acclimated it for a month in a place where weather is fickle. I was against this bc I was raised by a man who I would spend many years in his woodshop. Guess what! It’s buckled. I left space. My hubs who is not a handyman but watched these “van lifers,” who gave HORRIBLE tips just bc they built their van… & he thought I was wrong. Most of these van lifers haven’t lived in it long enough to forecast problems. Like my dad told me to rewire/tape any Japanese wires bc of the crimps. The day before- the Renogy smoked bc of the thin wires, exposed crimping. I’m sitting on this buckled floor- pissed, trying to find better options. Expensive doesn’t mean BETTEr!!!
Enjoyed this video. I was having reservations on installing peel & stick or laminate flooring because of same reasons you have. How is your flooring holding up? Do you still recommend over other options?
Although it’s only been 1 camping season, we are more than satisfied with our choice of flooring. We spent a little more by going to a flooring store instead of a big box store but we wanted a quality floor that should last for years. I would still recommend a 1 piece vinyl over snap together laminate but that’s just my opinion. Thanhs for the comment and have a great new year .

I'VE WATCHED HOURS OF VIDEO TO FINALLY FIND THIS VIDEO. THE ONE I NEEDED AND WANTED!!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thanks for watching
This video was a relief to watch I have been struggling with ideas for it sliding in and out and damaging the floors. This is perfect.
What we eventually did was just buy a carpet runner instead of the carpet scrap. That way we don’t have to remove it when the slide is out and it looks great. Thanks for watching
So glad I watched. Was just about to buy planks.
Great thoughts on problems with the slide-outs, very simple and clever solution. This video is a KEEPER! Thanks.

Thank you for showing this. Looks like real wood
The paper template thing, dude. You saved my ass! Was going to do laminate. Nope! 👍

Yep without a buffer it could cause some problems. Thanks for watching
Thank you for sharing both videos I can’t wait to get started on my rv! Helps your floodplain is just like mine!
Thanks for watching
Good job dude! Man, I want to upgrade my stovetop to an oven combo. 2010 Keystone.
We used lay flat sheet vinyl. It’s awesome stuff. No glue required.
Do you staple it?
Where did you get it from?
Use carpet glue when installing it will grip the wood and the tile. Works miracles and acts as a installation
Also, for the lip of the slid out use a tile vinyl Molding separator. Looks amazing.
Save my ass glad I looked it up. Thank you for everything. Onward to a successful RV flip🔥🔥🔥

I bought self sticking felt stripping from Amazon and ran it along the slide bottom and it did the trick.
Great Video. Great tips! Thanks

By the way, have you done a video on replacing the carpet yet?
Have you seen the rollers that help lift your pop-up out coming in?
Haven’t seen those. Not sure how they would work. Thanks for watching
Good Morning. How has the floor worked out and would you do it again. Jack
The floor has worked out great. No issues at all and it been almost 3 years. We’re actually in it right now staying in Arizona for 2 months. Would definitely do it again. Thanks for watching
Thank you for the video on installing your vinyl. Do you have one replacing the carpet n the slide outs yet? 👍🏻

Laminate can also add extra weight, something I don’t need .

The entire surface was glued 100%. Rv manufacturers use inexpensive vinyl which probably had a lot to do with cracking. Thanks for watching
Do you have a link to your vinyl flooring replacement?
Unfortunately I didn’t make a video installing the floor because of time constraints using the adhesive and the amount of room to try and work and film at the same time. Thanks for watching
Hello, Love this video. Can you tell me what brand and color the flooring you used in the RV?
Yes but right now my wife and I are traveling in our RV. We’ll be home in a few weeks. I have receipt for flooring at home and I’ll be glad to give you the info. Thanks for watching
@@PleasantValleyOutdoors ok, thank you!!
The flooring is by Mannington and the number is 100200. Cost was roughly $24 per yard. Hope this helps

Thats brilliant to make a template with paper
