saima, you don't have a pet squirrel. You are the squirrel's pet human. One thing you can do to start a semi-friendship with squirrels is to put some dried corn or dried but not roasted peanuts on your porch or balcony. It won't take them long to discover it. Just be where they can see you when they come for the food, but not too close. Over time you can get closer, and eventually they will come to you and play with you. It just requires patience.
A couple of people I knew had a pet squirrel they'd save and she has a big homemade home in there house home and she runs around there/her place and goes into her home in there home she is such a lovebug and Ms.Independant she surely is and full of love to fall in love yes its cool to own a squirrel as a loving pet and loving family 💕
Sometimes, no matter how good our intentions are, squirrels that have been raised by humans can't be turned out into the wild. My very first apartment was not in a security building but my front door opened to a courtyard full of trees. I found my little squirrel had fallen out of his nest but his mother never came for him. I raised "Snickers" in my apartment and would let him out to play in the courtyard but he always came back to the apartment. My living room windows faced the courtyard and he would jump up in the window when he wanted to be let in. I learned what to feed them and kept his favorite treats on the coffee table. He would end up sleeping on my shoulder. I had him until he became very ill and was with him when our vet had to put him to sleep. He was a wonderful little companion.
I rescued two, my first one was so sweet, best buddy ever. He would climb up to my shoulder, sit there for his kiss, he would just hold still after his kiss as it was special to him. I bottle fed him from a very small baby, he had been tossed out of nest during a storm. The ants were fast at him. Luckily I found him in time. He was the best of all friends I've had.

I like this as she tried to get him back to the wild several times but it clearly shown that he wasn't suitable for that life. a good move on her behalf, unlike a lot of people who see a wild pet and want to keep it forever and not try to get them to their natural habitat, hate that as some creatures are better off in the wild.
sally kilby yeah there's not much a Squirrel can do against a bird of prey. Probably a hawk or Falcon is what caused those wounds she described, or possibly an Owl maybe, regardless this was one of those instances where the animal would not of been able to survive in the wild, so this was the right decision, considering the Squirrel was imprinted on her and therefore depended on her as it's caregiver.
sally kilby yeah! i like how she gave him a choice of being able to go back to the wild, but the squirrel repeatedly chose not to go. i think it is because the squirrel was raised as a “pet”, and didnt learn the proper survival skills for surviving in nature. this is probably the best solution for this particular squirrel, even though squirrels are considered wild animals.
I still miss my squirrels I’m 61 and it’s been 35 years since I’ve raised them😔 There is nothing like them..one of mine would go to sleep in my hands like that every night when I was petting him. They are the most loving and fun precious animals ever🥰 So grateful you were able to get him back inside before that hawk took him off. You are a wonderful human ❤️

When I walk the dogs , if he sees us , he will run down the tree and right up to me and start barking until I pick him up. If other people see this they are amazed !! Charlie has actually brought his little family right up to me for treats and the dogs just set down never bothered by all the squirrels!! I think I will film it and upload. Peace everyone.
My dog had a chubby squirrel who followed us, but he disappeared. Some time later, I kept looking and finally found him. He was a SHE and had babies. She brought them out eventually, and they would run around her as she came to meet us. Now there's a new small squirrel that follows him. I didn't want to worry about another one, so I gave her some unsalted nuts to stop following, but she'd grab one then stay w us. Now I whistle 3 X and she comes and meets us for a walk a few times a week. Pearl the squirrel is her name & has a small vid on my channel. We love her.
Either our squirrel friend had babies or was injured. She didn't show up for a couple of days, when she finally appeared she was moving so slowly. She seems better each day, but bc she follows us on the ground, I never see her undercarriage clearly. This was why I didn't want another squirrel friend. I worry about them too much.
I still have a scar on my thumb from 30 years ago when I foolishly tried to help a squirrel which had fallen out of a tree, and that was through motorcycle gloves!...cute but can bite like a right little f***er!
This is the video those people who complain about keeping wild animals captive should watch! Some animals do not want to be wild animals, they want to be pets. There is not a darn thing wrong with this, and I am glad Gibby has a happy home.
The only reason there’s nothing wrong with this is because Gibby was brought up as a house squirrel from birth and would not have lasted in the wild. Still this woman gave Gibby many chances to return to the wild as a professional should and then made a great judgment call.
Pixies Ostrich Dustler - People get their faces ripped off by large animals that are predators. These animals are not pets, they are wild animals and should be treated as such. This is a squirrel, a rodent, no different than a pet rat, and if it has syphillis, there would be symptoms by now. Im sorry you hate the idea of keeping a pet that can be a wild animal, Dogs were once wild as well.
Does it also break your heart to see videos of livestock animals in abattoir slaughterhouses: cows, goats, chickens etc. Because guess what? They’re all ‘lovable’ animals as well. 🤔
It is wonderful that she listened to his cries and understood that he was sad and needed her to keep him inside. I'm so happy he's got such a great home. Keep Gibby safe always....
Squirrels are not a nuisance. They are extremely entertaining to watch - you can't help but admire their god-given abilities when they move around trees, jumping from branch to branch and dancing on the trees. When it comes to elegance, they can give cats a run for their money any time of the day.
@@Bandomeme They didn't destroy some other creature's home environment. They live in the natural environment that is available. People cut down trees and build houses with roofs and wires. The least you can do is to tolerate them after destroying their habitat.
@@greatbalance you don’t think making roof spaces unsanitary and electrical systems unsafe is “destroying some other creature’s home environment”? Especially since there is plenty of their own environment available. Squirrels are often an invasive species and are themselves a threat to local bird species as they feast on baby birds and eggs. They also contribute to the extinction of other members of their genus. When the grey squirrel, which carries squirrel pox, arrives in a red squirrel area the red squirrel population usually disappears within 15 years. Squirrels are cute little creatures and a lot of fun to watch, I agree. But that shouldn’t make you blind to the problems they can cause.
@@Bandomeme Lol, you don't know what invasive species means, do you? Squirrels weren't brought over by people into north America. They are native just like the wolf, bison, bear, elk, coyote etc. Everything you said about squirrels is their natural behaviour nobody is training them to do that. You're talking about the grey squirrel carrying squirrel pox as though it is part of its genes lol. And again, the competition between the grey and red squirrels is part of the natural process. This has nothing to do with humans. "threat to local bird species as they feast on baby birds and eggs." -- you are exaggerating as 99.9% of their diet is seeds and nuts, you are trying too hard to make them out to be some evil predators. "Especially since there is plenty of their own environment available" - well, the whole point of the comments was to point out that their natural environment has been drastically shrinking ever since humans started large scale cutting down of trees and forests for building cities. This is happening with all species, but the squirrels are smart enough to adapt to living in the small patches of urban tree cover that are left in the areas which had undisturbed forests. Just because squirrels are small animals, unlike bigger ones like the wolf or bison or bear, doesn't mean they should be labeled a nuisance, especially since they are not a predator species that can cause actual harm. You are exaggerating the issues. Perhaps fix your old tattered roof and faulty wires instead of blaming squirrels. I've lived my entire life next to them, and they have never caused any of the problems you talk about.
How did you manage to create a paradise where you have a domesticated squirrel that plays tag with your bunny rabbit, and shares food with your iguana. I think God is playing favorites again 🧐, what a blessing 🥰
I have a tree at the bottom of my garden and I was intruged when 2 squirrels started building a nest I seen the 1st twig go in after a couple of weeks the nest was finished so I shot them both with my airifle I still laughing about it lol
This is how keeping pets SHOULD work in a totally perfect, ideal world. You should befriend the animal and both of you should get to decide to live together, like Gibby chose to stay with his mum and his mum allowed him to stay. That would be amazing, and animals would actually have a small say in their lives.
I currently have a mommy and 4 babies living on my balcony. They shredded my astro turf rug for shelter. It's so cool to watch the kits bouncing around with such vigor and excitement.. They are very curious about me so I'll have my morning coffee with them and check on them again in the afternoon. I'm glad the mother feels comfortable enough to take food from my hand. I enjoy having them there and hope they have a long blessed lives.
This is the single greatest problem with humanity, that we refuse to consistently give love like this to each other. We view every other cause more important than being humane to each other, every other cute creature more lovable and respectable than a human life. We treat domesticated animals like we should be treating people, and we only like domesticated animals because they can be trained to be subservient or to suit a need WE have, and aren't "intelligent" enough to actively revolt against us. We like being in charge, and you can't just forcefully take charge of other people (or at least, it's frowned upon in ways that capturing/abusing animals isn't, which is another discussion entirely). That's part of the reason people have such a hard time getting along, because their egos can't allow them to reach beyond what they can't and have no right to _control._ The potential of an animal is predictable and to a degree, controllable. Human beings have unlimited potential, which is impossible to predict or control, and that terrifies us.

Many, many years ago my wife and I started building a wildlife attracting yard, honestly with mostly birds on our mind. When we started having squirrels and bunnies, at first we were really annoyed at how they raided the bird feeders. But over time we came to realize its a whole ecosystem, and now we love and accept all the ever growing diversity. Truthfully, now the squirrels and chickadees are my favorites. I’m medically retired, so they bring me great joy as I’m able to do very little. As our society wakes up from materialism and violence, I hope we eventually find a way to be like your little home menagerie! 🙏🏼🌿🌈
When I was a kid growing up in Savannah, we raised 2 baby squirrels who had fallen from their nest. We fed them warm milk from an eye dropper at first, and their eyes weren't even open yet. After they grew up, we released them - but they would always come running whenever I called out to them. They would climb up my legs, and perch on my shoulders while I scratched their chins. This is such an awesome video, and I'm glad that the little guy wasn't hawk food.

Get two or three, they will play among themselves. Cats should always have companions as well.
saima, you don't have a pet squirrel.
I wish I had that relationship with anything

Who would want to leave when you're getting your belly brushed?
Ain't that the one right there is where somebody might love you
Sometimes, no matter how good our intentions are, squirrels that have been raised by humans can't be turned out into the wild.
He knows she loves him. And a lot of people say animals don't feel like humans. I believe different.

sally kilby yeah there's not much a Squirrel can do against a bird of prey.
So cutie!
ikr
sally kilby yeah! i like how she gave him a choice of being able to go back to the wild, but the squirrel repeatedly chose not to go. i think it is because the squirrel was raised as a “pet”, and didnt learn the proper survival skills for surviving in nature. this is probably the best solution for this particular squirrel, even though squirrels are considered wild animals.
I still miss my squirrels I’m 61 and it’s been 35 years since I’ve raised them😔 There is nothing like them..one of mine would go to sleep in my hands like that every night when I was petting him. Second Thought you definitely should film it and post it I would love to see your squirrel buddy
Yes please.
Still waiting on that upload!!!!

They also don't want to be in total confinement I agree with most of what you said tho
Pixies Ostrich Duster humans are animals.

Squirrels are not a nuisance. They are extremely entertaining to watch - you can't help but admire their god-given abilities when they move around trees, jumping from branch to branch and dancing on the trees. When it comes to elegance, they can give cats a run for their money any time of the day.
They’re a nuisance when they invade your roof space, poop, and chew through your wires.
It's not there fault you put buildings in their environment, how would you like it
@@Bandomeme They didn't destroy some other creature's home environment.

This is how keeping pets SHOULD work in a totally perfect, ideal world. You should befriend the animal and both of you should get to decide to live together, like Gibby chose to stay with his mum and his mum allowed him to stay. That would be amazing, and animals would actually have a small say in their lives.

I enjoy having them there and hope they have a long blessed lives.
I wish someone would love me as much as this woman loves this squirrel.
That's part of the reason people have such a hard time getting along, because their egos can't allow them to reach beyond what they can't and have no right to _control._
The potential of an animal is predictable and to a degree, controllable. Human beings have unlimited potential, which is impossible to predict or control, and that terrifies us.
God loves you unconditionally.

When we started having squirrels and bunnies, at first we were really annoyed at how they raided the bird feeders. But over time we came to realize its a whole ecosystem, and now we love and accept all the ever growing diversity. Truthfully, now the squirrels and chickadees are my favorites.
