  • In this video Dushyant talks about the difficulty level of the Pangarchulla trek.
    Pangarchulla is categorized as a difficult trek. One of the most challenging days is the summit day. On this day, you gain up to 4000 ft altitude i.e from 11,000 ft to 15,000 ft. Hence, acclimatization is really important. You also trek longer than usual. You have to trek for about 15-16 hours on the summit day. There are tricky sections up until you reach the summit.
    The trail contains exposed ridges and huge boulders. The trail becomes steeper as you approach the final climb to the peak.
    Dushyant explains the 4 challenges that make this trek a thrilling one.

    Hi, i did this trek in last week of May and all the challenges you talked about were faced. Only thing I am not too sure about is the final 30mtrs near summit ridge. It is steep and kind of exposed but pretty broad though. It is not knife edge ridge. Well that is what I think. One more problem that I found was that there are at least 2 false summits before you reach the real one. For newbies, they feel it is done, only to find that summit is still far ahead. These false summits play mind tricks with you. Weather also plays big role. The weather was bad on our summit day. While returning there was scare of white-out and losing our way in that. I think the final push is pure mental strength :)

      Hi Swanand,
      All your observations are true. Treks like these are quite challenging and having the mental strength to push through is key. This is something we want all our trekkers to be aware of.

    Twisted my ankle at the boulders on summit day and then got hit by AMS but the view of the Nandadevi range at sunrise made it all worth it.

    I had some problems while climbing Kedarkantha in late December (peak winters). But I was able to do that, How difficult is it as compared to Kedarkantha? Kedarkantha was my first snow trek.

    • @Indiahikes
      @Indiahikes  3 года назад +1

      Hi Daniel, it is a LOT tougher than Kedarkantha. Perhaps four times as difficult in terms of the summit push. The terrain also makes it a lot more difficult. I would suggest you do at least another trek (slightly tougher than Kedarkantha), like Sandakphu or Rupin Pass, before heading to Pangarchulla.

    • @dnlroxxlifelong
      @dnlroxxlifelong 3 года назад

      @@Indiahikes So Rupin pass is easier than Pangarchulla?

    • @Indiahikes
      @Indiahikes  3 года назад

      @@dnlroxxlifelong Well, not easier, but less stressful because the trek is spread over many days. You still need an equal amount of fitness, not as much prior experience.

    Kauri pass and pangarchula is same or different? If not then what's the difference?

    • @Indiahikes
      @Indiahikes  3 года назад +1

      While the route is largely the same - They are different treks Rushabh in the sense that you only go up until the pass when doing Kuari. For Pangarchulla, you do the pass and then go further up to the summit.

    Did this as my first trek last year. I stopped somewhere in the sharp ridge. I was too tired to continue on the snow which was starting to melt as it was around 11am. Going up was a challenge on my strength and stamina. Coming down was a challenge on my balance. Luckily, reached back to our tent without any injury. Though I couldn't reach the peak but somehow I don't mind it.
    To any new trekkers planning for this trek, I would suggest please go when there's a lot of snow. Even with snow covering up a lot of the boulder section, we found the trek very demanding on strength and stamina. If there is less snow exposing more boulders, it will increase the difficulty many folds.

      More than snow Vivek, you need to be able to fit the fitness criteria. We ask to see that you complete 5 km in 30 mins and record it using any fitness app before you register.
      You will be able to make the payment only once your Trek Coordinator approves the fitness screenshot.
      Note that the summit climb to Pangarchulla is challenging in the presence and in the absence of snow. When there is snow, you’ll have to carve your way to the top using an ice axe, and when there is no snow, you’ll have to walk for hours on boulder sections. Either way, the trek is demanding and requires high levels of fitness.
