    The amazing Margot Fonteyn:
more performance perfection was demanded of her at 50 than most could deliver at 30 years of age - and, miraculously, she delivered!!!
If ever there were a ballerina with a more tragic personal life, i surely do not yet know of her!
Margot's autobiography was written with exceptionsl grace, but is a difficult read - because of the cutting tragedies and enduring loneliness. How she kept her mind completely on the roles she danced... amidst personal shocking disappoinments and professional jealousies of quite a few others - could not easily be duplicated by another performance artist (if ever).
Margot's most mesmerizing legacy is her breath-taking heroism. Despite relentless heartaches, she offered, consistently, only ethereal beauty in her sensitive performances: why so many were compelled to love Margot.
R.I.P., Gifted Ballerina - Beauty of Body and Soul.🙏🌹

Technique is indispensable in Dance, but without expressivity, Art is incomplete. Rudolf Nureyev had that in Him, took the time to live His characters. Emotion is shared, thanks to what comes out of oneself. He had a unique grace, from head to toe. You have to know that this solo was created by Him. He had to fight to impose it. His gestures are slow, which makes the Dance very difficult, everything is supple, untied. The Prince is sad at this moment of the Ballet. He communicates this sadness. He often said to his pupils: «... Be graceful, right down to your fingertips.» He didn't care if a Dancer could raise his leg above his head. If there was no emotion, the performance was worthless to him. Dame Margot Fonteyn had the same point of view, which is why their duets were extraordinary.
To take the time to do every gesture, with accuracy, feeling the music, was their way of being. Thank you, Master. These memories are priceless.

Good Morning Petitsaule. Totally in agreement with you.
"Grace to your fingertips," that phrase was his leitmotif. He demanded fluidity, suppleness, every movement to the end, He refused to accept "short" gestures, the effort had to be there. Every muscle had to work, every character had to live, the Dancer is a Soul Artist. Expressiveness had to touch the heart of the spectator. There, I recognize a Dancer. A child of Terpsichore...?

🇬🇧/🇫🇷 Beautiful. At a time when emotion and expressivity were very important. Perfect harmony, grace, poetry. This poignant Pas de Deux will be remembered forever. The audience made no mistake that night. Technique alone does not make a Ballet.
It's knowing how to convey the soul that emanates from this duet to the audience that counts.
«I want the audience coming out of a performance of "GISELLE" to be in tears. With the desire to see it again. Like in "Swan Lake". Dance is not acrobatics. It's an Art.» - Rudolf Nureyev
🇫🇷 Magnifique.
» - Rudolf Nureyev

Your flexibility comes later" shes so proud of me everytime I get a move right, even if my extensions are poor. These days everything is about going as high as you can, which I think can make a performance look mechanical and forced. These dancers may not reach the full 100%, but at least they are having FUN. I love the way she uses her neck so expressively to almost melt into Nureyev I like this choreography very much and having given up that gymnastics will ever be as graceful again as the Soviet gymnasts and choreographers in the 1980 have started looking at dance on the internet used to just get glimpses on TV. Even the Russian versions are disappointing as far as expression for Swan Lake -- need to go back in time and watch Maximova again.

Bergen makes the shocking claims in an interview for British TV programme THE SOUTH BANK SHOW, which will be broadcast on UK station ITV1 next month (AUG05).
She explains, "Margot was a woman who really needed sex. She and Nureyev had sex together. Unfortunately she lost their baby."
