    ABOUT: Littmann Classic III Vs Littmann Cardiology IV
    Hi there.....
    The age old question...
    Which stethoscope should I buy?
    The truth is, it depends on a number of things:
    How much money are you willing to spend?
    At what stage are you in your Nursing journey?
    What kind of Nursing do you do?
    Do you wear it around your neck all day?
    Either way, I've done my best to help you along the way.
    Here is a quick video outlining the main aspects and differencesbetween the Littmann Cardiology IV and the Littmann Classic III.
    Watch Video Comparing The Cardiology IV with the Classic III
    It's a super quick video, great visualisation of the differences!
    I hope you like it,

      Out of these two you could go either way. If you want to start of and not spend the big bucks straight away, the Classic III would do you nicely. It’s when you start listening to subtle heart sounds and murmurs that a cardiology IV would be more helpful. But to start learning how to use the stethoscope, I think you’d be more than fine with a Classic III. Some people prefer the Classic III too because it’s lighter.

      Hi Jessica Reed! As a Nursing student I don’t really think you need to spend the money for a Cardiology IV. The Littmann Classic III would do just fine. But then if you still don’t want to spend that much money, the Littmann Lightweight II SE is awesome value for money and great acoustics! The MDF 777 is also really good and similar price range as the Classic III. Again, it really depends on how much you want to spend. If you have the money to invest - go for it. If you just want something to get you through Nursing school, the Littmann Lightweight would so just fine in my opinion.
      Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions 🤗

    Hi Vanessa! What is the best for auscultation? I have a little difficulty hearing sounds, do you advise cardiology? I'm in the 2nd year of medicine, what is the advantage of cardiology IV? Only if I'm a cardiologist, which is better?

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  4 года назад +1

      Hi Antonio! 😊
      The Cardiology IV has got dual lumen tubing which means there is less rubbing sounds and clearer acoustics to each ear. I’d probably recommend you get the Cardiology IV especially if you are hard of hearing. The dual lumen tubing makes the acoustics just a step crisper and clear. And if you’re in your 2nd year I’m guessing there’ll be a lot more cardiac assessments to come. Hope that helps! 👍✌️🌷

      Hi there!
      I would say it depends on where you are in your studies, how much money you’re prepared to spend and personal preference! For example if you are in the beginning of your studies and just starting to learn how to use the stethoscope, a Classic III would be more than enough. It is also cheaper, not as heavy as the cardiology IV and personally for me, the one I prefer. On the other hand, if you are learning to listen to specific heart sounds, then a cardiology IV may be of preference. With the dual lumen tubing it just has that little bit crisper sound. But like I mentioned, it is heavy and quite expensive. They are both great stethoscopes. I have seen medical students and doctors with both stethoscopes, but I’ve probably seen more with a cardiology type stethoscope around their neck. Hope that helps! 😁👍 Thank you for watching!

      Hi Rowena! I think you would be fine initially with a Classic III but I know most doctors end up with a cardiology stethoscope once you start listening to heart murmurs and other cardiac sounds. The Classic III is much cheaper than the cardiology IV too and its certainly enough to start learning on but if you don’t mind spending the money you could go a cardiology IV straight up. Hope that helps! 👍🙏☺️

    Hi nurse Jenny, I'm a NP student and I already own the classic III. I'm thinking of replacing it/getting a second stethoscope. Should I go for the cardiology IV? Haven't decided what area I will be working in. My next rotation will be in cardiac surgery (but that's only for a few months). Thanks!

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  4 года назад +1

      Hi there!
      What's the reason you want to upgrade? Do you want better acoustics, different style? It depends on what you're after, spending the money on a good quality cardiology stethoscope (if you have the money) is never a bad idea I think. That's if you don't mind that they are a little bit heavier. There are other brands that have cardiology stethoscopes such as Littmann, ADC Adscope, Welch Allyn. Seeing as you are going into a rotation in cardiology and you've already had a single lumen tube stethoscope in the Classic III, maybe not a bad idea to try a cardiology one. Just shop around, there are differences in prices in the different brands! Thank you so much for watching and good luck in NP school :)

      No way! Im an MD. Finally (18 yrs) replaced the 3 w the 4 bc the tubing was rock hard. The tubing got loose on rt hear, which depending on my body angle it worked some. The coronavirus cleaning tools torched the diaprham off (dont care about spell check right now. Work was insane. The 4 comes in a 22 length size, sorta wish I would have gotten it. I do not wear mine across my neck like a douche. Got the chromish looking bell. Looks a little too fruity in real life. Im mad at the peds diaphragm it has to go. I will get that sucker off.
      To answer your question. Worry about putting up with cocky cardiologists. They are smug as urologists.
      Edit: get your arm muscles as strong as possible. W
      You will be pinned against the anesthesia curtain, screamed at for 12 hrs no break. If things go bad lots of cursing and blood spattering everywhere. That was a lost cause. Lost 120 units I blood on that nightmare. A resident came and saved me after 12-14 hrs.

    Out of all the ones you have ever reviewed which one has gotten the highest scores all around?

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  4 года назад +4

      I think simply score-wise it is the Littmann Classic IV however, it is quite expensive and heavy around the neck. A bit too short for my liking too. I personally don’t have to listen to much heart sounds so a cardiology stethoscope (dual lumen tubing) is a bit more than I need. I am completely fine with a single lumen stethoscope 🩺 and there are many different brands such as Littmann, ADC Adscope, MDF, Welch Allyn and Björn Hall (my own brand so completely biased 😆). You just have to find what price point, design and look that you are going for. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions 🌷 Nurse Jenny

    Hey which one would you recommend for 3rd year medical student ?

    • @NurseJenny
      @NurseJenny  4 года назад +3

      Hi Sabiha! 👋
      I usually suggest to the first year medical students to get a Classic III first, to learn how to use the stethoscope and see what they like and don't like and then once they start listening to heart sounds (not sure when that is for medical school) to get a cardiology stethosope (dual lumen).
      It's not easy to spend a lot of money on a stethoscope when you're a student either which is why a Classic III is a great alternative to start off with. Being in 3rd year you might be better off getting a cardiology stethosope but I would also suggest you check out some other brands that also have cardiology stethoscopes such as MDF, ADC Adscope and ERKA Finesse to name a few.
      I find the cardiology stethoscopes have amazing acoustics but they are heavy around my neck and for what I use it for (mainly blood pressures, resp assessments, bowel assessment) the Classic III type stethosopes are more than fine. If you have impaired hearing you might be better off with a cardiology stethoscope just beacuse the dual lumen gives you that slight added clearness to the sound. And if you are going to go down the cardiology route, best to get a cardiology (dual lumen) stethoscope.
      Hope that helps! Good luck in your studies 😁

    I’m an EMT student. I’m wondering if the acoustics are dramatically different between the 2. I’m worried about hearing lung sounds in the back on the ambulance, but I’m not sure I’m ready to invest almost $200 in the cardiology if they’re that similar. Any advice?

      @NurseJenny  4 года назад +7

      Hi Ruthie! I think you'd be just fine with a Classic III. I know lots of EMT's who have just that and think it's great. Do the cardiology stethoscopes have a little better acoustics - yes. But is it enough for the amount of money you have to pay - maybe not. So no, I wouldn't say the acoustics are dramatically different but the price sort of is. Hope that helps Ruthie!
