My name is Lili Marlene. My father got my name from her and this song. He was a World War 11 veteran from the Philippines. I was born in 1953. I am so proud of my name.
Makes me sad as it makes me want to go back in time and speak to my grandparents. I absolutely love this song though.
ausgezeichnet wie immer Marlene , como siempre una bella Diva

Wonderful Song. Marlene does a wonderful performance.
POZDRAV IZ BANJA LUKE. OBOŽAVAM VAS !!!
I shudder when i hear it. Thank you Marlene Dietrich! Congratulations from Greece!
Beautiful :)
Lili Marleen was the song of both side's in North Afrika, The fighting was stopped for it. It's the most famous song of WW2. Both sides had several reunions together after the war and always started this with this song in German and English. There was respect and no hate ! The original version was sung by Lale Anderson. An English version was made as well. It proofs that this sung has nothing to do with politics or nationality.
One of the most beautiful soldiers sings ever written.
Lovely song I used to hear in my parents house growing up in the 50s and 60s. It's nice on the piano too.. I assumed it was a WWI song -- just found out a few days ago it was a WWII song. I associate it with A Long Way to Tipperary, Pack up Your Troubles, and those other WWI songs my father used to like. Lovely and poignant given the circumstances.
I suggest you check out the history of the song and you will be very surprised.
'nuf sed.
Greeting from Belgrado. :)

There were 2 world wars. When the poster typed "11" they did not mean eleven, they meant the Roman-numeral I I that means two.
vera lynn was a comfort to the troops. marlene was a shot of whiskey. do you know that both sides on the european campaign claimed this song as their own during WW2.
RiP James Last and Marlene Dietrich.... =)

Actually "Written in 1915 during World War I, the poem was published under the title "Das Lied eines jungen Soldaten auf der Wacht" (German for "The Song of a Young Soldier on Watch") in 1937, and was first recorded by Lale Andersen in 1939 under the title "Das Mädchen unter der Laterne" ("The Girl under the Lantern")."
