The New BMW M2 (G87) - The Last Ever Manual M?

  • The G87 M2 is here, and it's a car worthy of praise for several reasons, including a powerful 450HP and 550Nm of torque and an exclusively rear-wheel-drive powertrain. However, the most significant cause for celebration is the option of a good old-fashioned six-speed manual gearbox, which is especially significant considering this may be the last manual M car ever to be produced.
    Ten to Fifteen years ago, a motoring publication making a song and dance of a manual gearbox in an M car would have been akin to the Michelin guide praising a restaurant for serving an after-dinner mint. These days, things are different. In the UK, aside from the new M2, the total number of M cars offered with anything other than an automatic gearbox is a grand total of zero.
    In this video, John Marcar talks through the basics of the new car in support of a written article that can be found here:

    Did anyone else try counting the number of "perfects" that John declared? - Don't worry, we'll get him a thesaurus for Christmas.
    // A COUPLE OF EDITORIAL CORRECTIONS: The Carbon interior inlays and roof are included as standard and not as an optional extra, as stated. Oh, and John definitely said NFC (and not NFT) when referring to the smartphone integration and controls.

    Nice car! Just bought one and can say that it looks much better in person. My wife misses my last M2 blue color.

    Nice video, great car, however, this just might be the ONLY guy touting the new G87 as lightweight. I don't agree, not even with modern standards as he claims. Save this point, really nice video.

    No bonging for us here in Hawaii. Got mine August of 23 and it’s f&$king brilliant.

      Congratulations on the car! The bonging is a European legislative requirement on all new cars. Glad to hear you don’t have it over on your side of the globe. Enjoy!

    I like it all but the display. It makes me feel like the guy testing the engine in a factory, not a driver. I think Porsche gets that much better with the Cayman, Supra also does a better driver display and switchgear. I can tolerate the Dodge truck front because I like Dodge trucks. Only in Europe the cars will "bong" but you can vote for politicians that like liberty and freedom if it bothers you.

    2 things really suck about the M2 (and the current M3/M4 as well) 1) steering feel. The steering is lifeless, sticky, and heavy. It is like turning a spoon in a jar of peanut butter. and 2) the brake feel. This one is hilarious since the brake-by-wire system allowed for BMW to create any "feel" they wanted. So instead of benchmarking a GT3...they chose a VW golf. I like my M2, but can't help but think BMW is a shell of a company, compared to years past.

    A nice piece but come on 1.7t, 1.8t actually, “not much different from other performance cars”. You must be smoking something, compared to cars in its class it’s a mega fatty, Cayman GTS nearly half a tonne lighter

    • @driven.videos
      @driven.videos  2 месяца назад

      We see your point but the cayman is a mid-engined 1+1 sports car. Quite different from a performance 2+2 front engined coupe.

      @@driven.videos come on don’t defend it, the Audi RS3 is also much lighter, c1550kgs. Don’t get me wrong i’m not an M2 basheer, i’m growing to appreciate the design that challenges our norms and the engine is magnificent. BUT please don’t defend this car as being no heavier than it’s class competitors

    • @MrPabsify
      @MrPabsify 3 дня назад

      @jonfrench7133 Stop smoking crack. The weight of the RS3 is listed as 1550-1650 kg depending on equipment. The M2 is listed as 1685-1750 kg. At max values the difference is 100kg and this can be understood if you take into consideration that the platform used for the M2 comes from the M3/M4, a segment higher than the RS3's, which comes from a VW small econoshitbox.

    Its not a small car and its heavy! My C7 Corvette would destroy it!The fact that beeps at you when you go over the speed limit, is absurd. The fact you have to turn it off every time you get into the car... F that! Europe.. The nanny state.. You get certain people in charge and they ruin everything!

      @@Krasshirsch well good that you can take comfort that most think like you. Im just thankful for the pioneers of design that constantly move the game on from the norms of design fitting inside “accepted” customs of safe design. Appealing to the mass market never moves boundaries, the boundaries that those with a fitting in mindset come to adopt.
