I would love to see a TV box with a high end snapdragon chip, it could be good enough to replace a desktop computer for people who doesn't need specific windows apps and a true low power emulation machine to have in your TV.

From what I understand Viewport is just the app interface, Current resolution is the actual resolution of the video. The Nvidia Shield TV has a Viewport of 1080P when watching 4K videos. I believe it is true 4K.
The RUclips viewport info isn't very accurate. It often reports OS scaling. So if the text and images are scaled up to 200 or 300% it's going to show a lower resolution like 1080p or 720p even though the video is actually playing at 4k.
I buy rockchip devices but only because they are super cheap, they are fairly low end performance and often on a more primitive fabrication process. They are fit for purpose though. My tablet is RK3326 I think and two android boxes I have are RK3318 both identical models for different rooms of the house. I'm quite happy with them to be honest. I paid £38 for the tablet with 4GB of memory and 64GB of storage and about £14 for the android boxes with 4GB and 32GB of storage. There was nothing cheaper available except for devices that were too weak to run the software and media I wanted to run.
A box like this is good for something like a car PC. It has Optical out, and HDMI, & would be PERFECT for a car audio build. If you could load up some DSP software on this, and enable some Linux software on it so that it would do the crossover points, and DSP through a sound card? You would be GOlden! Just use a Tablet as its Interface, and you are set. The Fact that you have HDMI? Means Perfect VIDEO in the car. Optical? You can take that 2 channel audio, right to a outboard DSP and have a PERFECT noise free audio signal that is going to support 24/192 (if the board can do it) so you get the killer app for this board. Plus its LOW POWER! So its better then most Car PC options. And unlike most Phones? It should not overheat as some Head Units also do. I'm not surprised by the shaky streaming support.

The new-school have found the holy-grail of matching batch-numbers and shortest path between RAM and CPU for better performance~! We now have the SoC with matched CPU and IGP and RAM just like a daughter-board, blade, graphics-card as a node, TV-box as a node... beowulf cluster node IPC (inter-process/inter-processor kompewsion) signalling pins and tracing on-board/off-board/outside-box/, ...
Odroid N2+ is a beast and can be played psx etc with a shader ( eliminates all pixels - smooth like a buttersnake ) called xbr-lv3-multipass with emuelec. You can also use xbr-lv2-multipass and combine with dotmask shader from crt file.
You might get better RUclips 4K results if you used an alternative app, such as SmartTubeNext. It's an ad-free front end for RUclips that works beautifully. Its UI and video player control is nicely granular. You can specify codecs, frame rates, and so on. It's updated very often. I got a FireStick just to use SmartTubeNext.
These things are overlooked for emulation setups, im glad you make the videos that showcase them. You should def make more because some of these boxes are on par and even exceed the pi 4 in raw emu power
@ETA_PRIME just a heads up its been reported that Android 11 has compatibility issues with certain apps and native android games also some users have reported problems with wireless gamepads/controls in general

I was excited to see the support for 8gb ram, but then it turns out that this "new" soc still has just 4 a55 cores. The most powerful soc is still the amlogic s922x with its 6 cores, and it is pity that does not support more than 4gb of ram
Chigz reviewed this box too and wasn't particularly impressed either. Nothing beats the Shield in the high end so you might as well spend the extra money and get that if you are going to spend over $100. If you aren't a gamer and really don't want to spend more, Mecool has all of the licenses now. I just don't really see a market for a box like this anymore.
I bought the same box, and found the temperature unsatisfactory. Upon opening I found it was glued down with stuff that's about 1Wm/K (if they even use stuff that good). It didn't even cover the whole SOC. After some cleaning and application of thermal paste, the temperature is now pretty good at 65C when playing games, no modification to top cover required yet.
Jay, just for the record: having multiple chips doesnt mean you are running on dual channel. N2/C4 have multiple chips and they doesnt work on dual channel
Anyone else getting confused with the whole "Android TV" phrase? Google's official Android TV vs something a cheaper box uses. Makes it hard to find fixes. Just me ranting. Great video as usual.
If you already have a Nvidia shield tv but want more emulation performance I'd say your best bet is to get a older business PC with something like an i5. You'll have no issues at all with PSP, N64, Dreamcast, or GameCube. Also depending on what cpu you get you can even get playable Wii.

You should do a review of the latest HK-1 RBox R2 that comes with the exact same processor (RK3566) and 4GB of DDR4. The box itself is the coolest I've seen to date with 3 led strips on top of the box of which you can control the colors or set it to random. You can also turn it off all together. I'm curious as to how well this box will perform with Google Play games being it has DDR4 + the newest processor. The Nvidia shield only provides 3GB of DDR4 and the newest Shield released last year only provides 2GB of DDR4 Just about every Android box on the market claims to be a gaming Android box when the truth is that's the last thing it is because of the hardware. There are Android boxes with 2GB of DDR3 claiming to be a gaming box knowing it couldn't possibly be. The HK-1 on the other hand has the memory so it's just down to the processor .... We shall see. I hope you do a review of it. This box can even be purchased on the wish Network for $60 so it falls into the cheaper boxes BUT the biggest bang for the buck that I have found to date with Android 11. Only one other person "reviewed" it here on RUclips and in all fairness Stevie Wonder could have done a better job. His video was as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

No AV1 support, which on it's own spells doom for the SOC (especially as Google is reported to be mandating AV1 support as being a pre-requisite for new hardware, with Netflix expected to follow) and the fact that it is no better than the S905X3 makes it looks like a virtual dinosaur out of the box.

I really don't get it..... it has no wi-fi support, so you can't stream 4k videos but it does have gigabit ethernet, normally that would support 4k easily but you tell me it doesn't support 4k. Or do you use any other connection instead? I'm really confused and since you kept mentioning this doesn't help either.

Dissapointing that this new SOC can't beat the S905 chips, especially since TV boxes with the S905x3 are available for literally half the price that even the cheapest box based on the RK3566 is available for. For the same price as these chips you can get boxes based on the S905x4 so unless this thing is really being held back with drivers not being ready or something then I can't see any reason for buying one.

I bought a lot of Android TV Box for Kodi.. I found the best is just used a SFF Ryzen 5 3400G APU + FydeOS..You should try FydeOS on your SFF.

genshin is way too harsh on this chip. Not even the best phone chips can run it at 60 FPS for more than a few minutes.

Yes minecraft is an easy to run game, but you need to go on featured severs since it is much more demanding and it is somethings ppl do alot

Dissapointing that this new SOC can't beat the S905 chips, especially since TV boxes with the S905x3 are available for literally half the price that even the cheapest box based on the RK3566 is available for. For the same price as these chips you can get boxes based on the S905x4 so unless this thing is really being held back with drivers not being ready or something then I can't see any reason for buying one.
