An EV with the actual battery technology is great as a second car, when your electricity is cheap or you own a solar roof. As far as you are not forced to use charging stations.
I own both. Gasoil and BMW E Car. It's nice to drive and very relaxed. But the longer the distance the more stressful because your thoughts concern stuff like "hopefully i arrive, charger is free, will function" and you have to drive slowly not to exhaust your battery too quickly.
Short distances are great. Batteries must improve at least 50% more inner power at same weight. Better 100%.
Sadly electricity energy in Germany is too expansive even at home. It climbed 50% by the end of 2022 and never got really back. Thats one main reason, that E Cars went off the winner direction.

When I retired at the age of 72, I decided after much research to purchase new car that may well be my last motor car. I wanted something that was affordable, comfortable, reliable, economic to run and good for long journeys. I bought a new Mazda 3 with the 2.5 litre petrol engine. That was 2 years ago. With a full tank of petrol, that's 50 litres and a squirt more, I can leave Adelaide for Melbourne. A tiny top up at Tailem Bend and a bite to eat, I can then drive all the way to Melbourne in comfort and no fuel stops, with the aircon running. And this isn't hypothetical, I have actually done this. So put that in your EV pipe and smoke it. Well, maybe not smoke it, lithium batteries cause fearful fires.

Yes they're inconvenient, but didn't you know that 'inconvenience' is the new big thing??
There's a food delivery company here in the UK that has advertisements on the radio. The adverts go something like this:- "We only deliver once a week (because it's better for the environment), our food costs more (because we pay farmers at a fair rate) and our food won't last as long (because we don't add any artificial preservatives)"
So basically, once a week they'll bring round some food that you could get cheaper at the supermarket, they'll charge you MORE than it would cost at the supermarket, and you're going to have to go to the supermarket anyway later in the week when your delivered food either runs out or goes bad.
And they try and sell this idea with the tag line "A little inconvenience is better for the planet" or some such spiel.
What I find shocking though is I actually saw one of these Able&Cole delivery vans out on his rounds once, which means there are some people who obviously fall for this kind of BS.

Globalists, they are the ones promoting EV's. Why? Because, just like in communist countries, they don't want ordinary people to travel, only the "elites" should be able to do that. How to remove cars from the general public? Come up with the "climate change" narrative. Make all EV cars very expensive for people to buy them. Reduce the production of ICE vehicles, that will also push their prices up. Next steps: Make EV's much more expensive to buy because there is not enough minerals in the world to produce all the batteries needed to replace all the ICE vehicles. Increase the price of electricity to astronomical levels since the demand for electric power would be absolutely huge if all cars were EV's. This was all planned by the "elites".

What are you people afraid of? Also it is a fact that Boeing and Airbus use lithium iron batteries to power the systems on commercial jets yet these people saying they won't park there car next to an EV have no problem taking their families on a plane with the same 'dangerous' battery technology. What about ships and trains? are they really still using lead acid batteries in 2024 on safety grounds? Do you really drive for 412 miles without a single break? If I was doing that sort of journey I would stop at least 2 or 3 times for half an hour or so....which is plenty to recharge my car at 150 kw. The EV also has the added advantage of doing the journey at 1/4 of the cost without the droning from the engine and constant gear changes to keep the engine running at its best inefficient speed.

I agree...I never bought my BYD Seal because it is green, it is such a nice car to drive. I can charge from home so no more messing about pouring petrol, it does the equivalent of 140 mpg and it was cheaper than an equivalent Toyota Camry. I drive in a congested city and when I am stopped in the endless traffic jams my car is using just 1 kw to power the air con, music and the cars systems, while the ICE engines next to me are churning over at 800 rpm or so, burning expensive fuel and contaminating the air....so it might just be helping the environment a little bit.....

Them: "Then charge at home overnight"
    Me: "I live in a 5th floor flat, I can't charge overnight"
Them: "Well, you don't fill up with petrol overnight at home either"
Please make it make sense! 🙄

I wasn’t brainwashed into getting a BEV. I wanted to try it. I agree with much of what you stated. Acquisition costs , insurance rates and replacing tyres alone were enough to make me go back to petrol. The upsides of no maintenance were outweighed by now higher electric , tyre costs, lack of range and as mentioned, insurance costs at least 30-40% higher than similar ICE vehicle. What really bothers me is the forced or induced government incentives to get people to buy or lease a BEV. My friends who also tried a BEV either got another petrol car or kept a “ gas” car just in case. 100% BEV is simply NOT the answer. Let’s not even talk about battery degradation and how once it starts, you own nothing more than a paperweight on wheels. Batteries can, do and will degrade.

My biggest issue with EVs is limited availability of skilled workshops that work on cars beyond warranty, the limited availability of replacement parts and the missing alternatives of 3rd party parts, when manufacturers do not care about easy repairs anymore. It looks like EVs are easy to assemble but hard to repair.
Listening to Wham Bam Teslacam when it comes to repair costs and wait times I get the creeps ...

We have both EV and ICE - the EV is a small runaround and it’s great to drive. Having said that, I do completely agree with everything you said against them.
The problem in the UK is if your car is a company car, an EV is really the only option, for now. Once car tax for EV’s and ICE cars reaches parity, EV’s will no longer be worth buying due to all of the points you have raised.

After a month I fired up the Honda to drive it to the new owners house and it was just laughable after driving the EV. Pressing the 'starter' button the get the engine going, then listening to it droning in the back ground...off down the road as the autobox went through the gears and burning petrol at the rate of 40 mpg compared to the equivalent 140 mpg of my EV....I will never go back to a fossil car...ever they are obsolete.

Anyway, Derek is the boss of Mathewsons Car Auctions, a family-run classic car auction house situated in the village of Thornton-le-Dale, Yorkshire, and they have their own tv show on the Yesterday channel on Sky. Each week the show follows the story of 2 or 3 cars from finding them, through the auction to what happens to them once their new owners have them. Sounds a bit dull, doesn't it, but believe me the down-to-earth family are very entertaining and make it an enjoyable watch.

Who remembers Max Miller? He would say 'eres a funny fing'. Well here another one. I recently drove from the (southern end) of West Midlands UK, in my 220 diesel fully loaded, across country eastwards with a detour further East to York. Two nights there then back west to the A1 and upto the east coast of the Scottish Border. There 6 nights with running about every day. Returning, drove across country westwards to Carlisle and came down the M6. We stopped at, the idependant, Tebay Services (which incidentally) I would have normally given a miss when I was working due to it's underwelming premises and overpriced, even for a Mororway, just average food, poor coffee and disgraceful toilets. It does have a decent but well over priced farm shop. Anyway because of the fairly recent TV series bulling it up. We gave it a try, big mistake, sky high prices and worse than I remembered it. What's that got to do with EVs? Well they had a big sign up boasting the latest Tesla chargers and sure enough there were 2 long banks of them but it's holiday time. Every charger was occupied plus two blokes were arguing who was next in line, with quite a few more EVs waiting in bays around the chargers with pissed off looking families striding about. Then down near the bottom of the car park there was a delivery area where 3 more Teslas were add-hoc parked with their drivers, hands on hips looking anxiously towards the chargers. They were waiting to get a bay nearer the chargers, ie, queing to join the queue. Another Tesla was cruising around passed the chargers no doubt edging his bet on jumping the queue. Ironically when I parked up The Bee Gees were part way through 'Stayin Alive' which came on again when I set off. As I drove passed the guys waiting in the delivery area, Barry Gibb was singing, Ha,ha,ha,ha, life going nowhere, sombody help me yeah! Ha, ha ha ha. Down the M6 to Preston 2 days visiting relatives there then back home to West Midlands. One tank of diesel and still almost 200 miles of range left in the tank. Ha, ha, ha, ha, stayin alive yeah!

Some estimate an EV must be driven about 50K miles (some say less some say more) before it reaches the Break-Even-Point (BEP) on the extra "carbon" it accrues over and above what goes into an ICE car during the manufacturing process. Given insurance firms seem leery of assuming the risk associated with even minor damage to an EV, how many EVs will be written-off before they reach that BEP? How many will fail to reach the BEP for other reasons? For every one that falls short of the BEP the remaining EVs must be driven even farther to offset their footprint.

They were better than tapes and records so people bought them. When Plasma TV's came out, they didn't have to say no more tube sets, they were better so people bought them.
IF EV's are so great, why isn't the public seeing this like they have done with every other better product in history and buying them off their own accord and why do Gubbermints feel the need to force them on people?

I'm thinking the same, those who are coming back to gas cars are going to feel truly comfortable again by the convenience and comfort they lost for jumping into the EV hype.
I mean, if you get stranded in the highway far away from any city due to lack of gas, is more probable you'll get help from someone who have a gas can, but what if you are on an 3 years old EV and the battery dies due to programed obsolescence?
Also, how much time will it take to refill the tank using a gas can?
