Fully agree with the DD choice. Once Miller takes charge completely, the book takes off. Despite its age highly readable today. Also the Busiek/Perez Avengers run is great although it appears older than it is due to its wordiness - I mean this ended when New X-Men was around already, which feels way more modern. But so many great storylines in that run.
Ultimate Spider-Man is always such a treat. I recently sold off my old (and I mean really old, circa 2008-2009 is when I think I got them) trades of it to partially fund my upgrade to the Omni. Needless to say it didn’t help as much as I would’ve hoped but it’s always a solid recommendation imo and I’m glad Omar agrees with that lol.
Silver Surfer was the first omnibus I purchased on a whim and read after taking a long break from comics; after being in tears by the end of the book I had the omni fever!
That would be my recommendation for any new readers. God Butcher is an S tier story. And the “other” Thor in this run is amazing. And the Thor’s from different timelines! Ahh it’s the best.
This video does not have to pertain to new readers, as I will benefit in getting these Marvel omnibuses, too. Thank you for your awesome Top 10 Marvel omnibus list, Omar!

1. Hawkeye - David Aja 2. Uncanny X men Vol 1 3. Young Avengers By Heinberg 4. Thor Vol 1 - Jason Aaron 5. Ultimate Spider man Vol 1 - Bendis 6. Fantastic four vol 1 - Mark Waid 7. Venomnibus - Donny Cates 8. Daredevil - Frank Miller 9. Silver surfer - Slott 10. Avengers - Kurt busiek
My first omnibus was daredevil by frank miller. Bought it cheap for 65 bucks, was second hand. What a great find it was. With that being said you should do a top 10 omnibus for the classics. Been wanting to get into the classic. When I say classics too I mean like way back. I always see them on the shelf but can never choose
I think you chose well with the Waid FF. Though I adore Hickman's run I don't think anything by him is the most new reader friendly. Also appreciate you putting your own biases aside to include USM. I slightly prefer Stern as well but it's undeniable that USM is beloved, fun and new reader friendly.
When I found your channel back in 2021, my comic book frenzy was reignited after being left on hold for years, and I thank you so, so much! I've found a lot of great stories, a better comprehension of the both real and fictional timeline of the big two, and a massive to-read list.
I've been reading through all of Marvel's comics (more or less) from Fantastic Four #1 onwards and I'm only up to 1974 so it'll take me a WHILE to get to most of these. But this video gives me so much to look forward to! I've only recently started buying comics physically and your channel is what helped me decide that Omnibus is the format for me. Even picked up my first couple Marvel omnis (Uncanny X-Men Vol. 1 and John Byrne's Fantastic Four Vol. 1) recently and can't wait to read them. Thanks so much for all the videos you make!
Hey omar! I just bought the Venombius because of this video😊 it's sounds like something i'll really enjoy. Thank you so much for your great content. I really love to watch your videos. It helps me decide on what kind of comics i want to read and actually understand the DC & Marvel order reading and universes
Came to mention that I think the Cates Venomnibus would fit in here. It's a great story, and KIND OF a standalone story (even though it encompasses two separate events). Like, I already had the Absolute Carnage and King in Black omnibus books and the Venom OHCs, but I still bought the Venomnibus in case my friend who sometimes borrows my comics might want to give it a shot one day. It's just so much more convenient than juggling all those omnibus books and OHCs, lol. I think Thor by Jason Aaron is a great pick. I _LOVED_ Love and Thunder ("there are dozens of us!") and was reluctant to reading Thor comics because I'd never really been interested in the character before. It was a fantastic read and now I'm anticipating vol 2 coming out in a month or two, now.
The idea of Captain America being replaced was first used in Tales of Suspense 96-97 (1967), then Englehart used it in Captain America 153-155 (1972), then in 176-182 (1974). Then Roy Thomas made it the focus of What If? 4 (1976) years before Gruenwald came up with his version in the mid-1980s.
Hey Omar….im debating on Tomasi Superman Omnibus and Aaron Thor Vol 1 Omnibus…..which would you pick up first. Haven’t read both all the way but no more or less of each. I’m on a Superman and Thor kick….so not helping me decide. Awesome! I'm so happy to see the Young Avengers omnibus made the list. After watching this I'm wanting to check out those Thor and Fantastic Four Omnis now.
@@JohnDeFoor It's the best in my opinion. I think Hickman, Lee and Kirby, and Simonson are classic must reads but Waid really dug into what made the group a family first and superheroes second and also made Doom a terrifying force.
The biggest omission for me is no Hulk book at all, and we have the Immortal Hulk RIGHT there. I'd drop Young Avengers out (which is hardly Essential) and put that in it's place. It'd be great to get an Iron Man or Guardians of the Galaxy, but there's just so little to choose from for those two. I guess I'd put the Bendis Guardians in there instead of the Silver Surfer. I just think Guardians is more new reader friendly thanks to all the media exposure they've received. I'd go with Abnett and Lanning's run if that was in print, but the Bendis run is good too.
Immortal is OOP. David 1 is OOP. I guess I could have gone with maestro, but I think Planet Hulk was originally on the list as a well as Black Panther by Priest.
If there had been an FF collection starting with FF 232, that would have been my choice but having to go through the earlier stuff in the omnibus is a drag.
Of the ones suggested, I've read three of them. The problem for me is the form factor. I'm not really an omnibus fan anymore, so I'll wait until these come out in Epic or Modern Era Epic Collection format.
Ultimate Spidey omni by Bendis vol 1 was the first comic I read when I got into comics about 3 years ago. Perfect for a new reader. I have a hard time with 70’s comics though. I’d be hesitant to recommend uncanny x men omnis to someone new because they feel a little outdated. New X Men by Morrison is the one I’d recommend. If Marvel decide to reprint Runaways, that’s one that I’d recommend without hesitation also. Great video!
Funnily enough I've read Hawkeye (Matt Fraction), Thor (Jason Aaron), Young Avengers, and Ultimate Spider-Man through trades. I'm stuck on if I want to pick up Silver Surfer (Dan Slott), Venom (Donny Cates), or Claremont's X-Men.
great to see some of my collection in the list: Thor by Aaron, DD by Miller, and Silver Surfer by Slott! Been thinking of adding an Avengers omni to the pile and was unsure which one. Busiek seems interesting but my question: classic or dated?
Young Avengers Omni seems really cool. Where would you recommend reading this omni if following a chronological order? Looks like this spreads 2005-2012!
The best thing for new readers IMO would be to only buy self contained omni's or stick to Marvel unlimited. I recently introduced a new reader who loved Spider Gwen due to watching the new Spiderverse film. He bought the new vol 2 omni and then did what I do with 90% of the omni's and epics that I buy...put it on a shelf and didnt read it because vol 1 is out of print. I'd love to see Marvel focus on building up some solid runs of titles rather than employing the scattershot approach they've been using for so long. I read exclusively on Marvel Unlimited for years before coming back to physical media via Omni's and epics but Marvel are making it so hard for me to not return to digital because of their frustrating approach to reprints. On a positive note, They have been getting it right with the Hulk Peter David run, Thunderbolts and New Warriors, more of that please.
Though uncanny x men vol 1 was a little campy, it never came off as a slow burn to me. Even after reading grant morrison's new x men. Clairmonts storytelling always kept me on my toes with each issue. This run really is worth it's reputatuion!
Personally, I would pick astonishing x men or new x men over uncanny. I tried many times to get through volume. One of uncanny xmen and I was only able to get a couple issues. Deep with just how wordy it is. It took forever to read. Didn't hook me at all personally.
I’m new to omnibus, used to read monthly comics as a kid in the 80s. Where’s a good place online to find and purchase these? Also, any idea if Wolverine vol1 will be reprinted?
Not sure telling people if they enjoyed Thor Love & Thunder then they will enjoy Jason Aaron’s run is a good move to convince people to read this. LOL The movie is panned by a lot of fans and divisive for many. And in my opinion, Aaron’s run is significantly better than what we saw in that movie.
Hey Omar, big fan of the channel! Do you have any idea when we can I expect an uncanny x men vol 2 omnibus reprint? Or do you know of anywhere I can get a copy? That’s my most necessary whale right now! Thanks god bless
As much as I love Spidey by Stern, I agree Ultimate Spidey is probably best for a new reader. The one choice I disagree with is Thor by Aaron. I think the Aaron run is overly complex and Thor isn't really featured in about half the run. Thor by Simonson is more straight forward and an excellent choice for new readers. I wish a Hulk omni was on the list, probably PAD v1.
Great idea recommending Busiek’s Avengers vol 1 with no Vol 2 in sight! Perfect for a new reader, get halfway through the run and then there’s no way of finishing it! Classic advice there dude! Pillock! 😂😂
With volume 2 being in our top 20 this year odds are it will be reprinted. And what about uncanny 1? Volume 2 is OOP as of now or do you only keep up with books you need? Pillock made me laugh. Have a good day
@@NearMintCondition I have Vol 2 of both, so I need neither. However, new readers can easily buy vol 1 without realising how difficult to attain a second volume can be and that should be pointed out. So putting both in there was a mistake, thanks for pointing out your own stupidity. Also Vol 2 of Uncanny is considerably cheaper and easier to find than Busiek’s Avengers Vol 2. Mention these things in your video and you won’t be a pillock! Think about the common person, we aren’t all given books for free on the Marvel gravy train! Ciao XX
This is a random question, but I hope someone can help. I recently read Tom Taylor's Dark Ages and enjoyed it. (this guy is the king of elseworlds these days) I've been thinking of waiting for a HC release some day, but I don't really know what Marvel's release strategy is like (unlike DC who release HC before TPB). So is it purely dependant on sales? Or is it random? Is waiting a year or two for a HC of a random short run like Dark Ages ultimately futile because it may never get one?
My guess is that you'll only see a _Dark Ages_ hardcover if they do a sequel at some point, but I doubt anyone's really pushing for one right now (Taylor himself is unavailable, as he's currently under an exclusive contract at DC).
What is in print is hard for me to know so I'll assume my differences are in print and be wrong. 1. Not a fan of Hawkeye (Immortal Iron Fist. 2. Agreed (Whedon's X-men is also new reader friendly), 3. Nope (New Warriors. I'll stand by that until my dying day.) 4. No (Thor by Walt Simonson. This should be evergreen) 5. Totally Agreed. 6. No argument (My only problem with this run is that it was too short.). 7. Another that should be evergreen (Next time I could do without the smell.) 8. No. (Capt. America by Ed Brubaker vol. 1 If you argued by Waid or coming soon by Mark Gruenwald, I wouldn't be able to put up much of a fight.) 9. Sorry on this one. Infinity Gauntlet Omni. (Like You I'd probably put Annihilation here.) 10. 100% totally agreed. (Another book that needs to be evergreen)

I think the Aaron run is overly complex and Thor isn't really featured in about half the run. Thor by Simonson is more straight forward and an excellent choice for new readers. I wish a Hulk omni was on the list, probably PAD v1.
I looks and PAD Hulk 1 is OOP. I love Sinonson’s Thor, but movie Thor is closer to Aaron’s vision.
Omar! Do I need any other knowledge to watch young avengers and then the house of M!
Ciao XX
Can't seem to find Waid's FF Omni anywhere, is it still in print?
It’s coming back to print next year.
Hey omar, which BP run would you recommend for a new reader?
Coates is more linear and easier to get into than any of the other Omnis. If you aren’t restricting yourself to just Omnis, Hudlin’s run.
Good question! Unless he comes back to Marvel and does a follow up, I don't think we'll get an HC.
I had Cap by Bru in the first list three years ago and its now OOP
Lol does anyone forget what video they are watching because the ad is actually interesting? Like a movie trailer or something
Hahahaha.
Somebody say...Daredevil? ;)
Oh yeah!!!
why tf do you flip the pages from the bottom😣
It’s the way I’ve always done it.
WHY IS THIS LIST NOT TEN CHRIS CLAREMONT X-MEN OMNIS??? #FAKE
Omar is dead.
Young Avengers? She-Thor? Bwghhh no no no
You are missing out. :) but we all can’t love silver age iron man either.
Uncanny x-men vol 1 is great, too bad I'm not getting vol 5, marvel fuckeed up the spine and this is the end for me.
You are missing out. Get over that phobia and treat your shelf!
You have at least four great books.
