      A mention on Chase cards - Chase allows transfer points from one account holder to another. Example: I have old Chase freedom and my wife has Chase Freedom Unlimited & Preferred. Around Fall last year, I was able to transfer my Chase points to my wife's Preferred. I am not sure if there is any qualifying criteria for transfer because all I did was call Chase and get points transferred from my account/card to wife's. Hope this helps!

      I started with the Amex Blue Cash Everyday and they automatically upgraded it at some point to the Blue Cash Preferred which earns 6% cash back on groceries.

      The only problem I saw with capital one, was them not having a 2% Cashback card. But now with the venture x and this card, I think this setup is easily the best if you're trying to pile up points.

      Yes, I want the SavorOne so bad.
      I'm glad Dan mentioned no foreign transaction fees, because typically, you don't get that with a card that also requires no annual fees. But I don't know another card that gives you rewards on top of that.
      It also pairs well with the Venture X.

      Possibly a different video, but also points that are good to combine without redundancies. For example, Amex Gold plus Chase trifecta for just Amex and Chase; or possibly Amex Gold, VentureX, CSP, CFF, or bringing in two Citi cards to get points for Custom Cash and use that in addition to other points.

    I think it's also worth mentioning the version of the Savor card that has a $95 annual fee - you earn 4% on dining and entertainment which more than covers the fee if that's one of your major spending categories. I think it's my favorite card!!

Very simple but effective if you know how to redeem Capital One miles - and then the flexibility of the 5% category on the Custom Cash works well with it. Thanks for watching Will!

    Time to add some more cards to my setup!! 👀🤣Personally I have 6/10 on this list, and I could see myself adding 3 of the others for sure. The only one that doesn't necessarily fit my strategy right now is the Blue Cash Everyday considering I'm mainly focusing on transferrable points, but one I'm really excited about adding is the Bilt Mastercard assuming I'll still be renting come the summer when my current lease is up. This was a really solid list (and thumbnail might I add). Great work as always!!

    Can you please expand on the redemption value for travel booked with the Chase Sapphire and Venture X? It seems like the Venture X offers more opportunity for accumulating points for most people based on the cashback categories, but CSP still prevails as the fan favorite. Is that because the CSP offers better redemption / ease of use with booking in the travel portal?

      They are both good setups. Personally I like the C1 because of the added benefits and ease of recouping the annual fee and their travel portal seems awesome. With things like price match and price drop protection you can’t go wrong.
      That said I will probably get the Chase trifecta too at some point just to collect the signup bonuses. I would probably only spend on the FF’s 5x category of the quarter and keep the CSP so that I could transfer points out.

    • @scottshapiro2795
      @scottshapiro2795 Год назад +1

      I have C1, and based on my experience and what I've heard from other videos, Capital One is a bit simpler than Chase.
      I also have the CSR so I know their travel partners, and at least for hotels, Chase kicks Capital One's butt. That's my main gripe with Capital One, not many great hotel partners.
      But I do prefer the Capital One travel portal to Chase, and do like the lower annual fee that is extremely easy to recoup.
      I don't think you can go wrong with either. If you're looking to transfer to travel partners, for airlines they are very similar. For hotels, Chase wins. For booking travel with points without transferring, CSR gives 1.5x back, but then also only earns 1x on many things that Capital One earns 2x on, but Capital One is only 1cpp.

    Unpopular opinion: I don’t like the AMEX Gold card. Specifically I dislike the services it gives credits on. I feel like even with the credits it is more expensive than just ordering from the restaurant directly so I don’t see the value in the credits and I don’t spend enough in dining a groceries to justify the fee without valuing the credits.

    • @LK_EBM
      @LK_EBM Год назад

      Do you at least value them 50%? That lowers the "net effective annual fee"

    • @jmbwashi
      @jmbwashi Год назад +1

      @@LK_EBM personally, I wouldn't. I am pretty sure even picking up myself would end with me losing money compared to not using Door Dash or Uber Eats. Maybe I'm wrong but I that both services hike the prices by about 30-40% and then add other fees on top of that. If I used Uber rides or are regularly at some of the other restaurants that would be another story. I think the best I could do is maybe value each credit at $10 because I might eat at the cheesecake factory once a year and maybe use Uber rides once a year.

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  Год назад +1

      Yeah I really wish that the dining credit was just a general dining credit or at least had more options. I've been valuing that credit lower and lower each year for me personally, but I'll use it for Grubhub occasionally. Uber is a 100% value credit for me though which helps lower the effective AF. Always good to have that honest evaluation of your spending habits like that though! Not everyone will value these credits on the Gold card the way they should which can be a mistake

    For the venture x, do you accrue miles when redeeming the $300 statement credit or is that an opportunity cost using the statement credit (no additional miles)?

    • @jmbwashi
      @jmbwashi Год назад +1

      Personally I don’t know the answer to the statement credit question but I do know that you don’t earn miles if you pay with miles when you book travel through their portal. It’s better to pay with the VX card to get miles and the use the travel eraser feature to cover the purchase.

    • @scottshapiro2795
      @scottshapiro2795 Год назад +1

      I have the Venture X, and I think you get the full value? I couldn't go back far enough to confirm. But I think you book the trip, then you earn the miles. You then get a statement credit of $300.
      Like John said, if you want to use miles, always book in cash first, then use miles to pay off the purchase. That way you get the 5x or 10x miles.
      But be warned if you need to cancel or rebook. I did this and lost a lot of points. I booked in cash, and then use miles to cover the purchase. Had to cancel the reservation and while I got the cash back, I lost the points. Points are more valuable than cash, since they can be used for transfer partners. So if you care about points, make sure your won't cancel or rebook. Otherwise you lose out on points

      I do value points more than cash, but in this situation I was booking hotels and Capital One doesn't have great hotel partners. I've been saving points specifically for this upcoming trip, so while I do value points more than cash, in this situation cash was my only option.

    Why is it I've seen most videos talking about which cards to get but I never see the downside to actually using a credit card. Example, I get it's a benefit to using the cards but we never talk about the fees that come along with every transaction. Use the card enough to get reward points to cash in but your giving that cash right back with the extra fee they charge every month along with your monthly payment..

    What are your thoughts on the Navy Federal Visa Signature Flagship card?

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  Год назад +1

      I'm not as familiar with Navy Federal cards myself, but I just looked at it and I'm not a big fan of the $49 annual fee for a card that's basically earning 2% back on everything and 3% back on travel. There's other no annual fee cards that can do the same thing that might be better instead of trying to justify that annual fee.
      Sign up bonus is decent though and there's a few other perks and credits that provide value in first year - but long term seems like too little value for an annual fee. If it was no annual fee then I'd say it's a great card though!
