- This song is a parody from the 1974 Christmas classic "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" by Rankin/Bass Productions.
The episode featured here is Season 4, Episode 17 titled "A Very Crappy Christmas"
I love how they do this with the admittedly slim audience that would recognize the reference.
I actually love this version better than the original, it’s faster pace and stans background vocals really fit the song
Absolutely! I love his 'oooOOOoos' in the background!
Stan's background vocals were also in the original. Kenny's, too. If you want to see it, it's available on RUclips. However, since it was a longer version, the vocals replicated by Stan and Kenny are added in after the first verse.
"Yo! You guys, seriously, I'm so fat, hElPmEoUtOvErHeRe!"
I crack up EVERY SINGLE TIME I hear it!
0:38 Fun fact, this is actually how Trey Parker had to do Cartman's voice back in the early years, holding out his arms out and pressing his neck against his chest. If you see that one scene in Baseketball where he does the voice, he's doing this exact pose.
Pretty interesting. It's also amusing how Cartman sounds the most masculine out of the four main boys, even with Trey's voice sped up.
I just looked for it on RUclips and found it. (Search for "Basketball Trey Parker does Cartman.") You're right.
What's funny about that clip is that when it's suggested to Trey that he make fun of the other guy for being fat, Trey protests, "Dude, that's not cool." Yeah, right. Trey Parker is not cool with fat-shaming. Like they haven't been making fun of fat people through the use of Cartman (and others, like Sally Struthers) since the inception of the show.
0:28 always kills me it’s a reference to the og ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas 😭
Yeah, I just rewatched it for Christmas and heard about this episode, had to check it out
Theres something so pure about this. Like I don't get the vibe that Trey and Matt are even making fun of the song; it feels like they genuinely loved the special its from and wanted to pay homage.
Also just a great sentiment overall, when it comes to collaborative creative works.
“Ah I’m so fat.”
“No you gotta sound fatter.”

0:27 Rankin Bass! 😊👍
I love when Kenny just dies randomly
“It’s okay. We’ll just have his character die in the film.”
@@JohnSkellington, for once, Stan and Kyle think Kenny's death is no big deal!
I love how this is an instance where Stan and Kyle think it's no big deal that Kenny died.
I appreciate Kyle at least walking past Kenny’s body rather than just over it
He didn’t want that shit on his shoes bro
They didn't even do the "You bastards!" bit to the car driver. Probably because the spirit of Christmas was still in their hearts.
The whole episode is pretty much a spoof of the Rankin/Bass "'Twas the Night Before Christmas." Even Cornwallis Hankey is basically an expy of Albert Mouse from the original special.
Yeah I was shocked I saw this episode long before I ever saw the special this song came from.
Matt and Trey love semi-obscure Rankin-Bass specials. All the Lemmiwinks songs were based on their versions of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings
this is unironically catchy
0:29 scratches my brain
I was trying to remember what song this was in class because it’s the South Park song that I hadn’t listened too in the longest time but I could only think of when Stan says ‘tralalala’
His little tralalalas ❤️ lol
Very glad they included that
“It’s okay, we’ll just have his character die in the film.”
I love how Stan and Kyle don’t respond with the usual “OH MY GOD! THEY KILLED KENNY!!!” When they’re cut off from Kenny being run over by a car. And the fact that Kenny actually did die in the original Jesus vs. Santa short that Matt and Trey created just makes it even more hilarious.
I also love how spot on Stan’s impression of Cartman is, given that they’re both voiced by Trey Parker.
The meta humor in this episode is just brilliant!
😂😂😂
@ 1:02 Oh my God! They killed Kenny!
This is a deep cut, I figured Matt and Trey were animation buffs but idk if I even met someone who knew this one
Weird how I remember this more than the Rankin/Bass original.

1:01 Kenny Died - WASTED
1:02 OH MY GOD THEY KILLED KENNY
Those bastards!
No worries will just have his character die in the film.
Yummy!!!! 😋
(Picks up Kenny’s remains with flesh all exposed and starts eating him)
@@beavermuffin what the fuck
@@jordy9606 I’m half zombie. 🧟♀️ I’m hungry.
(Keeps eating Kenny’s flesh)
And Kenny died again
“It’s okay! Well just have his character die in the film!”
They could've had Kyle voice Kenny, he could just talk into his sleeve
Moder South Park Fans probably wouldn't get this reference, but I 'member!
I remember watching this episode and feeling like I was the only one who got the joke.
HELP ME OUT OVA'MYAH
KENNY
@Kenny McCormick oh hi
How many times did you die in episodes kenny
Stan sounds NOTHING like me
Hi cartman
@@PromptoArgentum_ sup
Yeah, he sound like u fatass🤝
He sound EXACTLY like you. You’re both voiced by Trey Parker.
He'll need to sound a lot fatter if he wants to voice you.
