Brian Boitano's exact words from an interview about this in 2006. "It's become such a part of my life. Kids who don't know who I am, or what I did at the Olympics, meet me and think I'm cool because I'm in South Park."
When I saw this movie, I found this song inspirational. I could never remember Brian Boitano's name, but I loved that he doesn't take shit from anybody and that he'd probably kick an ass or two.
Coolest part about this song is that Brian Boitano made shirts saying “what would Brian Boitano do” and sold them for charity after asking Matt and Trey permission
1:39 This moment always gets to me. The shot of them running to the sunset, singing to what their hero would do and acting on it. It's a reminder of youthful energy and idols. It's a beautiful shot and lyrics that always makes me teary eyed in happiness.
*I just saw this movie yesterday (Time called it the 6th best animated movie in the WORLD next to Disney and Studio Ghibli), and BRAIN D. PASSED SO RECENTLY?*
The movie was actually kind of a legit musical, completely unexpected. It's not like Family Guy, watching that show you know McFarlane is a fan of musical/theatre format.
Yeah, I seem to remember Trey and Matt saying that Steven Sondheim (!) wrote them a letter to tell them that the songs were wonderful. I think they said that they were so speechless and humbled that one of the great composers of the last century would lavish praise on them, that they were like, "Um , thanks...you've done some good stuff too?"
Holy Shrimp! Studios It's made to look liek constriction paper. Apparently certain assets are scanned from construction paper and imported into 3D rendering software to create that kind of look.
***** Holy Shrimp! Studios is right - only the first episode was done frame by frame using ACTUAL construction paper. All episodes since then were made using rendering software; HOWEVER, Klemen Kekec is also right that they actually scanned certain "assets" using construction paper and then rendered them to attempt to retain the "construction paper look" as close to the natural as possible, from the texture of the characters down to the shadows cast by the construction paper cutouts. There's a documentary out there that tells the story - the equipment they have is state of the art and could produce visually stunning animations... and they use it to make construction paper cartoons. That's what I meant in my comment, that the cartoon has a construction paper LOOK, I'm fully aware that only the first episode was made with construction paper, which took months to accomplish, but nowadays South Park has an amazing turnaround time of 5-6 days! That's to write, voice, animate, and publish an entire episode all in a matter of a few days! In fact, the episode regarding Obama's first election aired 2 days after the election, which is insane! The writers said that they essentially "guessed" that Obama would win and did half the episode before the election and finished it afterwards. If McCain would have won, they'd have been screwed and would have had to scrap that episode.
Let's take a moment to appreciate that Brian Boitano managed to not only build the pyramids of Egypt (presumably all of them; presumably single handedly), he also somehow simultaneously beat up 13th-century Mongol emperor Kublai Kahn, despite the ~3,700 year time difference of those periods. All of this presumably done on ice skates. What a hero.
Anybody realize that this movie is the only time you see the South Park people's feet moving separate of each other when walking forward instead of just being clamped together when moving.
+Kyle Broflovski: They were going to interview Brian Boitano this morning on "The Today Show" about the Olympics (I had to go to work so I didn't see the interview), so I've been thinking about this song a lot today.

It was 1999, I had just turned 10. I was on summer vacation with my family, and since my parents fucking ruled, my older brothers and I were all big South Park fans. Our dad actually took all 3 of us to watch it in theaters, a decision he regrets to this day lol. It's funny how few of the jokes I actually understood back then.

yeti episode? the one with scuzzlebutt? anyway, they created this song specifically for the movie, it's never been used since then in the show. maybe a similar tune though
+Carys Saunders I like that one too. That song is great for when you need a good laugh, but this song is so uplifting. When you don't have the heart to continue whatever just listen to this. Makes me feel awesome and stronger!
The whole soundtrack is epic. And the 'band', DVDA, just makes incredible music all the way around. Trey and Matt are like, ridiculously talented dudes.
I wonder how Brian Boitano feels about being remembered for a South Park song more than whatever it was he actually did.
He's a figure skater lmao 😂 last time I checked his Twitter, his South Park version of himself was his profile picture
He got lucky in terms of South Park coverage/exposure.

The commitment to your name and image are something to be admired
Your name and image are giving me nightmares
Brian Boitano wouldn’t start a sentence with ‘Because’

1:32 Cartman only joined in after Stan and Kyle said "shit" because he would get zapped by the V-Chip.
That's some intense detail
I only now noticed that!
And also 1:16 he didn’t swear
Japanifornia also at 1:21 when they talked about travelling through time watch Satan’s hand, only just noticed that
Small details like that make this movie even better
Reviewing Podium he meant Stan.
I’m pretty sure that Brian boitano is the only southpark celebrity to be treated good
They also treated Cesar Millan (star of the show the dog whisperer) good as well
Keanu Reeves also got treated well.

Al Gore was kind of treated as an Idiot but not as bad of most of the celebrites

A Olympic gold medal figure skater
President of the world, saviour of the galaxy on several occasions, inventor of time travel

+Tranehead64 What?! You never knew that Brian Boitano did two Salcows and fought grizzly bears! Unheard of!
+Tranehead64 I'm almost positive that's the joke. No one who was a fan of South Park knew who the fuck Brian Boitano was.
+ForOrAgainstUs haha exactly !! classic south park joke
a joke on a joke about a joke
RIP Brian Dennehy (1938-2020)
I wonder why they stopped using this song. It's really catchy.
They only ever used it for the movie
vinceto leevinny Umm i dont think so. I could swear they used it for the Yeti episode.
yeti episode? the one with scuzzlebutt?
anyway, they created this song specifically for the movie, it's never been used since then in the show. maybe a similar tune though
Baldurs its bloody awesome and yes very catchy

Hi, I'm a laborer. I built the pyramids. When Brian Boitano came from the future and beat up Kublai Khan, it.... It really meant alot.
this song is actually really motivational tbh.. i listen to it when i’m down
This is the only movie I like that has singing in it.
Brian Dennehy’s last words: “Byeee”

I like Uncle Fucker
+Carys Saunders I like that one too. That song is great for when you need a good laugh, but this song is so uplifting. When you don't have the heart to continue whatever just listen to this. Makes me feel awesome and stronger!
+Matt Gerrish (Gamerdude56) its not a SP song, but the original pokemon theme song was probably my uplifter
Jordan Cabell What would Brian Boitano Do? was originally from Pokémon? I don't think so.
I know, i was commemting thatbMY uplifter song wasnt a south park song
This song is a big reference to the second part of "the spirit of Christmas", a two part animation that was the origin of South Park
Kyle's voice is soo cute...
mysterion voice is cuter
I will argue to my grave that this is one of the greatest songs ever written
Gotta agree with you there

1:30 that's just silly, anyone whose watched the history channel knows that aliens built the pyramids.
are you sure that alien do it? is there even an evidence
+lucariotime890 Duh. It's on the history channel. They wouldn't put it there if was no evidence. dummy smh
There's no evidence to state that aliens did not built the pyramids, so… GUESS WHO ACTUALLY BUILT THEM!
yeah, but who gave them permission to build those pyramids? answer: brian boitano, of course
inpossible
Rip Brian Dennehy
I'm not a musical type of person but this movie is one of greatest of all time
Strangely adorable for a south park song.
It's so weird to hear the three boys' voices so different in 1999.
I love this song
*TRUE FACT LOTS OF PEEPS AGREE*
The whole soundtrack is epic. And the 'band', DVDA, just makes incredible music all the way around. Trey and Matt are like, ridiculously talented dudes.
