    Very creative idea and a budget saver at that. For others looking on, pay as much attention to Doug's approach to a problem as you do his solution. He keeps it practical, and simple. This does not need to be rocket science. Also take in mind he has been working at this magnificent shop for 30 years. Rome was not built in a day and our home shops are not magically going to be converted overnight into what he has done.

      @@fleetswoodshop3339 I have sent links to some of your posts to friends and fellow woodworkers. Often you find people get real critical and focus not on the creative aspect but on the "oh he has too much time on his hands" part. Frankly what does it matter, you are doing what you enjoy doing. Not at some bar sucking down suds and getting nothing accomplished. I am in my shop every evening for 2-3 hours making stuff for the shop, or the house.

    Hi Doug, I like your videos very much... You are a very accomplished wood worker... I was a machinist for thirty plus years, also a great occupation... I go a little over board on safety... One should never grind on the side of a grinding wheel.... The wheel has a potential to blow up... It may not blow up, but it might, which can cause injury to the person involved... Usually when you install a new grinding wheel on the motor, there will be a sticker attached saying never grind on the side of this wheel.... Just an FYI for you, keep up the good work, I very much like your vidoes....

      Had to chuckle. If you horse anywhere on a grinding wheel it could blow up. I was concerned he'd run a rut in the side .... that's where we kept things flat so you could start off a fresh edge on a shop knife. Once upon a time there was a real Fleetwood shop..... nothing like what you have. Fleetwood was the name given to the old English ship builders.....

    With the number of drawers you have, I can see the practical nature for using a relatively inexpensive solution. At the same time you end up making it really unique and quite beautiful! I wouldn't expect anything less from "The Maestro" (this is the way I will address this fine gentleman from now on, I am a few years his senior, but I recognize his superlative talent in organization and layout of his shop. By the way, the term artist is one that is bestowed upon someone by another in recognition of their superior work, Rembrandt or Michelangelo, would never call themselves artists, they were painters, sculptors, the term artist is to be given by others in awe of their talent, when you have become an artist in the public domain then at some point the artist will become the Maestro, the master of his craft), well done again!

      I know of them. Never really thought of using one. Since I made the video. The last few that I had to make. I put each one in the drill press and sanded the heads that way by hand with the bolt mounted in the drill press that helped because I didn't have to hold the bolt in my hand. And I use stainless steel for mine. which gets extremely hot very fast when friction is applied. Some mounting it in the drill press worked pretty good. And thank you thank you so much from Doug

    Cool idea!
    I may use that idea in the future. Although I think I'd prefer to blue them for my own shop. I think it'd require standard steel, not galvanized or stainless. I'm sure you're aware of the process, heat the bolt to a certain temperature and drop it in oil to quench. Would give them a black appearance. Or some kind of cold blue liquid would give the same look. Birtchwood Casey makes a good cold blue liquid. Not as resilient as stainless, but better than standard steel. Probably still last at least one lifetime haha
    Maybe desirable to some maybe not. I think I'd like the black look.
    And I may have to use several of the ideas I picked up from the shop tour video. Thanks for taking the time to film, edit, and post these videos.
    RUclips has tons of viewers and creators now, and sometimes it feels like many of us throw the same ideas around, which is good for gaining knowledge and sharing what we've learned (to do and NOT to do) in general I guess. But I have never seen many of the solutions I've seen you implement in your shop. For instance the table saw blade storage drawer you pulled out in the tour. The blades teeth don't touch each other, they overlap a bit to take up less space, and it's just make sense that they would store well at a slight angle like that. Maybe you didn't think of it, could have come from a wood working magazine or something I suppose, but my point is it's very unique. Who ever thought of it had their thinking cap on. Another is the easy access step to walk "ON" the work surface to access all the vertical storage potential. Definitely someone was actually thinking and using brain power to have come up with that idea.
    Thanks for sharing these ideas.

    • @fleetswoodshop3339
      @fleetswoodshop3339  4 года назад +2

      Davey. oh my God thank you for such an informative and entertaining comment. I read it all the way through and really love that you have a lot of good thoughts. Two things well actually three. as far as the blue bolts go that's an awesome idea I never thought of that don't use galvanized it wouldn't work use plain steel. dip them in a muriatic acid and water solution before you blew them it will take off that factory coding. A friend of mine really like the idea. But he wanted all his bolts to have the rusted rugged look. so again he's soaked them in their attic acid using plain steel bolts for a day took them out put them in the sun and they rusted right away. he then cut them off finished them like I did in the video but before he installed them he dip them in two-part urethane and hung them to dry. Giving him the rusted look but preserved in urethane. As far as the stairs on the workbench go and the blade storage drawer. That is 210 percent my creation. the reason I store the blades flat is because nobody will tell you that too much but when you store them sideways they tend to warp and like you say the teeth hit each other. laying flat you can't get to him laying on an angle like that you can easily get to them all. The stairs were actually designed because I'm short. I couldn't reach over the top of the bench to grab the Opera trays so I just put a set of steps there so I can get to them. And thank you but now I'm getting long-winded so thank you again from Doug

    Hi, Doug. I have a camera suggestion. When showing close ups of small object/parts, hold the open palm of your free hand close behind the object/part. It helps the camera focus at the short distance.

    • @jertoneg1830
      @jertoneg1830 4 года назад +2

      It would also help if you hold the item steady for close ups.

    • @zapa1pnt
      @zapa1pnt 4 года назад +1

      @@@jertoneg1830: Steady can be difficult for many people, for various reasons and an object that close to the lens appears, to the camera, to be moving quickly all over the room. A large, flat, surface close behind the object appears to not be moving and gives the camera something to focus on.

      hello again my friend I got a chance to go check the video to see which handle you were talking about and you have a very good eye my friend that's one of my favorites. I can't do a whole video on that. But I tell you what I absolutely will put it in as a little segment on the next video. It's fairly simple and it would be my honor. The wood it's mounted on the base of the drawer is purple heart and the handle itself is made out of a wood called queenswood. And those two wooden plugs are covering up the bolts and they are also made out of purple heart and it would be my honor and my pleasure I will be glad to. I don't know exactly how long before I get that out but it will be on my next video. And thank you thank you very much. From Doug

    Great and simple solution!
    Quick question: is the wood that has the diamond inlay on the bottom of the cabinets one peice, or is it a separate piece of wood between each diamond?

    • @fleetswoodshop3339
      @fleetswoodshop3339  3 года назад +1

      Thank you for asking my friend the diamonds are made out of blood wood. There were about 3/16 of an inch thick. And they're not in laid it's what you call a surface layer put on top of the wood. The wood they're sitting on top of his red oak. You install the red oak first then make the diamonds and install them on top of the redwood . I know on the video it looks like inlays but they're not they're late on top. It makes for more of a three-dimensional look than a flat surface. And thank you thank you so much from Doug

    • @screwfist
      @screwfist 3 года назад +1

    Awesome idea Mr. Doug! I hope you like it when someone has an idea for you. Sorry but my mind always sees a different way to do things in most every video I watch. I don't know if a 3/8 stainless bolt would cost less than the lag screw but I have threaded wood with a metal tap and screwed bolts into the threaded wood for years and never had one pull out yet. Lots of people use the metal insert when screwing bolts into wood, I just tap the wood. Also I think the washer would look cool if it was rounded toward the drawer. I would make a shallow half or quarter depth hole in a piece of hardwood and use a round object to press the washer into the hole and make it like a half moon. Just me thinking...
