Not really, they were a band for musicians with no mainstream appeal in the 70s. Musical talent was not appreciated to the extent that we tend to assume these days, unfortunately.
Gentle Giant's music (especially the first six albums) never ceases to amaze and inspire me. They were in a category of their own and can't be compared to any other bands.
All 12 original ones had something to offer, imo. Wasn't "Giant For A Day" the song a direct ethereal inspiration for Queen's "I'm Going Slightly Mad"?
Me too. But they respect their history enough not to taint it. It would take an insane amount of practice and rehearsal to live up to what they've already accomplished. If they fall short their legacy is tainted. Many would agree it's time for Yes to retire. Gentle Giant is smart enough to make sure that they don't suffer a similar downfall.
I first saw Gentle Giant at Cheltenham Town Hall supporting the film Jimi play’s Berkeley. None of us knew who they were at 16 years old. I have venerated them for the rest of my life and am honoured that I met Ray Shulman on a couple of occasions. We’re not worthy.
I've always considered myself musically diversified with tastes running from classical to heavy metal and just about everything in between. But I never even heard of these guys up until about 15 years ago or so when I and my then girlfriend house/pet sat for Gary and his wife. Super nice guy.
Funny to see how Gary Green automatically claims his position as a spokesman on occasions like these. A role he’s able to fulfill quite well, I must say. I wonder if there’s going to be any further activity around Three Friends, the GG tribute band, after they had to quit performing a few years ago due to Gary’s health problems. Rumours back then told that the band was working on newly written repertoire. If that would only come true! Especially if Kerry Minnear would be prepared to throw in his unparalleled composing skills. It would mean the rebirth of Prog Rock!
@@gringochucha I'm afraid those rumours might be right. When Three Friends took off (back in 2006 I believe it was) Kerry Minnear initially was a band member, but left soon afterwards, as it seemed because the Shulman bros considered his contribution to TF inappropriate.

i love this guys!
Would love to see more and more people turn on to them!!!!!!!!! Pass the word
Great! Has to get one of those! Happy to see so many of the guys together, excellent!
Digging it.
I’m glad they rehearse the music much much much much much much more than they rehearsed this press conference,,,Or should I say; it would’ve been nice if they had rehearsed this press conference, a little bit. But they can’t tarnish the music…
Hoffe immer noch auf eine Reunion-Tour. Wie man sieht, sind die Herren noch immer in topform !!!
I was at the Montreal show! Yesssir!
Funny Malcolm being there when he only made one album with the group.
Awesome collection.
Just brill
The best of all, thats it !
It looks beautiful.
And I'd really like to know why
I didn't get an invite to the party.
Where"s Ray.
I want that for christmas!! And a bag of weed please!
I wish I had a lot of spare dosh.
Would really like to get an hold on the New Orleans show (the only soundboard with Phil) and Chester 1977 (which I heard was a great soundboard too).
Where's John and Ray?
As a first-hour fan of Simon and admirer of GG I would so much like to have it, but the price, oops ... 😥
Wow! Just wow!
I got to see them at a bar in New Jersey in 72 orr 73 for 5 bucks
Dripping with Juiciness !
Very nice box but why they did not include the videos? It would make sense to include a couple of Blu-rays with all their studio and live videos, it seems the box is sold out but i would more inclined to spend US$300 if they`ve included the videos.
If so, let them also include Under Construction and Scraping The Barrel. I long for the completeness.
Its a pain watching this and knowing it slipped out of my fingers...thats how it is when you sleeps through your life..argh...
Same here. $700 on Amazon. Well....
Plus le temps coule plus nous apprécions.
