i heard prog music since 69 s at twelve. i discovered GG in 1994. I refuse all music that i heard previusly. The great band i ever heard. Thanks you tube
"AMONGT THE DARKERS -- BEHIND THE FEW" is seriously the coolest bootleg title I have ever heard ... there's a hidden backstory here I think Also, that intro is incredible! Kerry Minnear is the real guy
The most remarkable band of the 70s. Hard to say, if this was rock-music. I think, it was far beyond any cathegories of music at that time. I still enjoy listening to what they did.
@@andreasoberndorfer5476 Maybe that's what they wanted, but it is not, what they actually did. The complexity of their music was completely beyond pur rock-music. They were almost perfect in this kind of music, but when finally trying to get more commercially succesful at the end of 70s, it wasn't their kind of music. They were far too excellent to be humble. For me the end of GG marked the end of prog-rock in general. I took me quite some time to re-open for bands like IQ lateron. BTW: I am German, but let's continue in english language.
Having talented multi instrumentalists who can switch on stage with ease is not so uncommon in groups today but 40 years ago? It was mind blowing. I still carry that emotional charge whenever I listen to this magical music so emblematic of my youth. Long live the Giant!
The intro is a re-arrangement of a theme from the song Giant (first album). It then goes into a variation of the Cog in Cogs riff before the full band enters.
I first saw them on this tour as a 15-year-old. Mind completely blown, permanently. Saw them four later times, but nothing was quite like the P&G tour ...
It's good to hear that. Suddenly I am at the Janson (Brussels free University big auditorium), at the théâtre 140, at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, and I'm sitting in my youth again spellbound and happy...
+Paul Turzio Because of Three Friends, I got turned on to GG and have been devouring their music. Bless Gary Green for caring enough to share this amazing music! Hope he has a full recovery soon!
GG was always on my list of top prog bands, but did not think that 40 years later I would be listening to them twice as much as Genesis or Yes in past year or so. Good bootleg, wished they had found a way to be both musically successful and earn in their youth! That must hurt, but the music does endure, and past us too
i had this boot up until recently; in 2017, i sold my entire vinyl collection [1200+] for big $$$$$! a great band, & this was 1 of the better sounding boots from t.a.k.r.l, too...
escucho rock desde el 69 desde los 12 años. Descubri recien GG en 1994 de casualidad. Nunca supe de ellos. Despues de eso reniego de todo lo q escuche antes. La mas grande banda. Soberbia. Gracias a you tube
Is it really? My old vinyl bootleg - just the above one with the red sleeve/TAKRL! Long live 'Kornyfone'! Thanks so much for upping this great album; now my vinyl may retire.
Remember everybody listen to Yes,Genesis and all the big prog bands in the 70's,at the time GG was obviously not for the masses .Now many people my age tell me they listen to GG and hardly ever to the huge prog bands who got rich.Such a shame GG still doesn't get paid now we have the www.If they are still around they should tour and finally get paid for their incredible accomplishments
La mejor versiòn de Gentle Giant en vivo. Lo escuchè hace muchos años. Todos los mùsicos se lucen y al màximo interpretando una mùsica fuera de serie. Gracias por subirlo a la red.
Ah, the days of bootlegs, being sold openly in the record shops! Fantastic!

Have you listened VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR???? If not try Pawn Hearts , Godbluff and Still life albums.
How could you have "heard prog music since 69" and not discovered GG until 1994. I demand you explain!
@@bridgmjm Agreed, explanation needed.

how about "bundled sunspray demise" ?
Experience is beyond compare. Kerry is a genius
Yes on Kerry....Ray Shulman too!
The most remarkable band of the 70s.

Also called barrock
Derek said they wanted to be seen as a rock band, not as ProgRock.

They defied labels!
Never heard this intro before. Beautiful!
They used this intro a lot in the mid '70s at their concerts

Tightest band I ever saw. This stuff is wtf more rhythmically complex than anything anyone else was doing.
I love these Kerry keyboard freakouts they played as openers at the early shows. Just totally improvised, must've been a pisser to do ;)

@@drob281159 Well spotted, I didn't notice when I listened. They were masters at recycling and disguising themes.
i used to buy all the gg boots at a great old record shop back in the day. this is great.
The GREAT OLD DAYS!!!
Absolutely amazing band, they changed my life.
I first saw them on this tour as a 15-year-old. Mind completely blown, permanently. Saw them four later times, but nothing was quite like the P&G tour ...
Haha same experience here!
I saw them on this tour at the Moore Theater in Seattle. What a treat to hear it again!
@ 2:00 the essence of Kerry Minnear's complete genius on keyboards. the best clav player maybe ever, baroque funk Bartok
some of the best live Giant I've heard. That KM intro is so fun. Love what these guys did so much.
Incredible music, I've remembered GG since 1970, but this something brilliant...

Three Friends - Gary Green carries the torch. Wish it was enough
inspiration to gather them all back for one show. Heck, Cream did!

Same thing with me
I always liked Genesis, of course the Genesis with Gabriel, but I find myself now liking gentle giant a lot more! Strange!
I used to have this on a cassette tape and it died. I'd love to get a copy of this recording again.
Music like this is internal long live the Giant just wish they would tour damn it

man, havent heard this by them before! :D
Starts out a bit strange but then it gets real good (this from someone who was 16 in '78 and had missed the majority of the classic prog years).
Saw GG st the New Victoria theatre in the
so called 'comeback tour'.....absolutely perfect band ....
Brilliant !!!
Genius!
the opening sounds like return to forever/ELP blend

Wundabah~!. I'm searching for a (mine was colored) bootleg disc that was @ xmas, where they played a glockenspiel going to grandmas medley~!
good
This one was recorded in White Plains?
Are you sure?
On the guitars Gray Green? :D
Can you post Playing the Foole?
