Grieving the loss of Ray Shulman having passed 3/30/23.😢 I would never hear violin the same after seeing Ray with GG several times in the early 70s. These guys were the most talented band live..constantly shifting instruments, expertly played. A joy to see and hear. RIP Ray.......
great to see these animated films for GG, who are currently enjoying a renaissance and finding new fans. Me? I not only saw them live three times in Glasgow (knocked my socks off) had a quick chat with them in the bar before the show. They were lovely guys and also their road manager (at the time) actually regularly sent me letters and posters and small merch of the band's european tours. Sadly, most of the memorabilia was lost due to my ineptitude and youth, however, I have a photo of me as a young drummer, sitting at my drumkit and a GG circular 'woven' not paper, sticker on one of my toms, the Pantagruel face which is GG's mascot.
I heard them at 16 and still a fan now at 66 years of age. Absolutely phenomenal band. 🎼🎵🎶🎸🎹🎺🎻🥁😎
music of GG unfolds like a picture book full of stars, where birds come chirping, spinning farandoles, cracking rattles and dancing wizards. From rounds to nursery rhymes, the arrangements display their mystery, the songs fill with fervor and the instruments have the roundness and brilliance of chimes ;)
