Slipknot played Mayhem Festival opening night on July 9th, 2008, which also was my 19th birthday. My brother and I drove two and a half hours to see them at White River. We happened to run into a high school buddy of mine who was working security. He asked what kind of tickets we had and I showed him our GA lawn passes. He smirked as he headed to a tent and comes back with two Pit passes and says "Happy Birthday big guy". My brother and I were ecstatic. It was even better when we found a group of friends down in the Pit.
When Slipknot came onstage they absolutely killed it. The energy in the amphitheater was at full speed. Joey Jordison did his crazy ass sideways drum solo that was totally insane. It was the same night DJ Sid broke both his ankles jumping from his platform. Best birthday ever!
Now my brother is watching Joey and Paul play in heaven. Rest In Peace.
That's a beautiful story man, sorry about your brother, but I'm glad you've got an incredible memory with him that you can keep forever.
Sid jumping from the scaffolding will always be #1 to me.
saw slipknot for the first time yesterday. best experience ive ever had. i cannot express my love for the band with words even though i am mainly a tech death guy. slipknot was my gateway into metal.
