Queen Elizabeth II: Saluting the Armed Forces' Commander-in-Chief

  • Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-reigning monarch, has died aged 96.
The Queen's relationship with the Armed Forces was a centrepiece of her reign - a special relationship forged in the dark days of the Second World War, and then, as monarch, front and centre of her duties as Commander-in-Chief.
For 70 years she watched over Britain's three services and all those who served, always honoured to meet them as much as they were honoured to meet their Queen.
Forces News looks back at that special relationship and the legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

She truly was, basically all of our lives, the eternal Queen. I just still kept imagining she would be with us forever. Realistically for a few more years. I’m not ready to say goodbye, and to think that the Second Elizabethan era, has now come to an end, and we are now in fact on the edge of another. We may now have a king, but in my heart, and so many of ours, for now, Elizabeth is still OUR queen. Goodbye Elizabeth

I sit here, a Texan, American, so proud that my country fought and obtained its independence from England so many years ago. Yet, I sit with tears in my eyes and share the grief of my cousins in England over this irreplaceable loss they have today. She has been their monarch from before I was born. I grew up with her just as many of us have.
I am grief-stricken. What a lady. What a Queen. We shall never see the likes of her again.
RIP your Majesty. You were really the Queen of the World.

Queen Elizabeth II more then a Monarch of Britain. She though born into her position portrayed the power in humility and honesty. There are few people who can except and remain fully committed to the position they are giving in life. Queen Elizabeth II I shall always remember as a person who was a straight shooter that maintained a positive aura and an artist in her ability to speak clearly . She had a talent in her abilities to choose the words that seemed designed to address the issues at hand and lead you into a state of calmness and acceptance of the circumstances with readiness to move through the events with a smile of content on your face.

I am an American that lived in England. I had frequented the Hitchen boxing club. The Queen had, as I understand, officiated the Hitchen boxing club. Hitchen was at the time economically disadvantaged. A beautiful and honorable thing to do.

I would like to remind anyone who is saddened by the death of "Her Majesty", that she blatantly refused to apologize for the horrors the "precious" United Kingdom committed in the 1899-1902 Anglo-Boer War, including imprisoning people in concentration camps in which 47 thousand civilIan's (27 thousand of whom were Boers) died in agony. Not to mention more recent British atrocities, in the Former Yugoslavia, in Iraq, in Libya and elsewhere:

It's history, get over it. I live in Germany, I don't blame the current generations to constantly apologize for the wars, I don't blame the French for Napoleon or the Italians for Rome, nor do I constantly bang on about the British settlers killed by the Boer. And although Britain played a large part in the slave trade and colonialism so did France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium etc etc etc etc. The list is damn near endless. But it was only England that tried to right those wrongs, in 1812 we went to war with the slave trade, we freed slaves from shipping belonging to Portugal Spain and America among others while south Africa damn near kept the same order of things till the 1980s under apparteid, so don't lecture Britain.W⚓

In my formative years, always being in the knowledge of the fact that I had an uncle, my father's only brother living in the UK, meant that I came into contact with certain round coins, adorning the pristine, emaculate and intricate portraiture of Her Majesty the Queen's head. The pound coin (then round) in particular, felt heavy and I would pick it up, as a boy, thriving in the humid life force, nestling amidst the tropical breeze of Bangladesh, and wonder, about a land far away, on the other end of seven oceans and thirteen rivers. A land that had a Queen. To me, that was the United Kingdom that I knew, romanticised and pictured in my mind. A land of possibilities and opportunity, of freedom and prosperity, a land that produces men and women who are known not just for their money, but also for the kindness of their hearts. A land of the good and the great. The Queen was certainly one of them. Many years later, I find myself living in that land of dreams. Amidst the trials and tribulations of life, that dream can sometimes go blurry and start to gather dust under many a machinations of life's manuscripts. The Queen's loss has renewed that romance, that initial love I felt for this land, far away in another corner of the world. It could only have been made possible by the history and legacy that Her Majesty inherited and in turn bestowed upon all, even to me, not knowing how much her presence felt to me and my family. My mother today recalls going to the airport in my hometown of Sylhet, Bangladesh as a schoolgirl in 1983, to get a chance to see Her Majesty visiting. That brought home the extent of this loss and what it meant for many around the world, known and unknown. She was certainly not a prophet, or a politician. She was a symbol of hope and a sense of belonging, that transcended many generations, weaving together history and epochs like a well crafted quilt that brought people of many creeds and cultures together who had all but one thing in common, The Queen.

Her dedication to her Country and its armed forces. The great compassion she had and care for all was outstanding. Her Faith as a Christian who prayed daily and knew her Lord Jesus in a very personal way was very beautiful to see. She expressed her belief in many ways but none as much as in her message to her people every Christmas Day. She said that she could not have been able to Reign as she had without Jesus Christ as her foundation and was rather amazed that not all Christians prayed daily and meditated on the Holy Scriptures.
She was Commander in Chief of the Armed forces and Defender of THE Faith.
King Charles III has big shoes to fill in regards to defending the Faith. He said he wants to say on Coronation Day, "Defender of Faith". I feel it changes what he wants to say. Changes the fact he, as King, will not make a stand for the Church of England, and wants all faiths, IE: saying defender of Faith. His mother Queen Elizabeth II took her vows at the Coronation seriously and never wavered on those vows. King Charles III seems to have missed the target of what his role is as Monarch. Please, you Majesty I believe you are going down a road to nowhere by changing this one vow. You are to be crowned King and head of the Church of England and Defender of THE Faith!!💔🙏🇬🇧

I heard a story on Mike Tindall's rugby podcast. For those who don't know he is married to the Queens granddaughter, Mike was talking to an officer helping to plan the Queens funeral, they had realised that the plan that was planed to pick her coffin up wasn't really big enough to allow the pallbearers to load the coffin with dignity, so the officer sent a message to the queen suggesting using a bigger plane and suggested the one that was used, this plan had been used to repatriate the bodies of our dead troops, the message that came back from the Queen was "if it's good enough for my boys it's good enough for me" I hope this story is true and i don't know any reason it wouldn't be.
