    It's uncanny how many of my favourite songs you seem to focus on. Stuff that a lot of people don't do. You sir, are a prince amongst men.

    You have such great taste in music! Your lessons on the Smiths, Siouxsie, VU, Stooges, etc. are like fresh water in an endless youtube desert of boneheaded jock rock and pointless shredding/noodling. Obviously you have an ear for good songwriting. I always look forward to your lessons because I know not only will they be clear, concise, and helpful, but it will probably be one of my favorite songs too! (The version of this on the live '69 album is one of the greatest recordings ever) Thanks for being so generous in sharing your work.

    Astonishingly good lesson, thanks very much Adrian. Your stroke of genius here is to realise that the song was probably played with open G shapes in F with the guitars dropped a whole tone. It certainly makes the solo a lot easier when you realise this.

    Now this is awesome love Lou Reed also want to say i appreciate you showing the love for lead guitarist Sterling Morrison who is not that much far removed from my natural style of playing lead guitar a guy that is just doing his job by doing tasty licks in the background not trying to be noticed as much as just giving the song what it needs no more no less Which is what i love to do, I can't stand guys who ruin a song by overkill on solo work but i am into very tasteful or melodic graceful flowing with the music solo work that is me and in doing that i have carved out a niche for myself with my local musicians. I get asked to play gigs practically every day and do set in with the local musicians and bands from time to time and do some session work as well and honestly I don't think i am that special of a player myself but maybe i don't give my guitar playing enough credit who knows

      All great to hear how you fit in playing with other musicians, I’m sure you’re an incredibly talented player and don’t give yourself enough credit, as I feel the same.
      I feel that playing melodically fitting into a song is much more effective, dynamically & melodically better adding to the overall mix, playing that style is harder to do well in my opinion, rather than guitarist that whacking an over the top loud O/D pedal on soloing thinking your Hendrix taking the limelight wanting to be some sort of rock god expecting loads of praise and everyone saying what a great guitarist you are!! To me that’s boring, rather than fitting actually thinking properly what you’re playing so you compliment what other musicians in the band are doing and actually listening to the others too, that is real musicianship and more creative overall.

    I love this song and this is a great lesson but there's one thing driving me mad: your tuning seems to be a tone lower than mine - e.g. when you play the 7th fret on the G string it sounds like the 5th on mine. I've checked my guitar against a couple of tuning tools, googled to see if Sterling Morisson used a non-standard tuning, scratched my head. Any idea what's going on here?

    • @jonkemp4787
      @jonkemp4787 2 года назад +1

      Doh! @2:02 "Remember I'm tuned down a tone for this song: D G C F A D (low to high)". Well that would explain that then! Was convinced you hadn't detuned because you were still talking about the "G string", which is now an F string 🙂
