I pick mine up brand new next week and will be handing back the Aygo. It's been a great little car but i fancy something with a bit more power and overall better quality. Test drove the Yaris and it was perfect. Can't wait!
Who is this presenter - and why don’t we see more of him? He’s good; I like this guy. Having watched many UK & US car reviews I have to say this guys style is refreshing and to the point.
Another extremely patronising and sarcastic reviewer, taking the piss basically out of this car, and of course he has to mention the Fiesta at some point. I never compare any small car to the Fiesta, simply because I dont like the Fiesta, so no point me comparing. In fact, I never compare one model against another. If I like a car, I buy it because I want that one, not another make and model that doesnt interest me.
The European ''Yaris'' is much better spec'd than the japan, usa, and Australia market! Why, Because there is more market for it here! Small cars in the states and australia are ''no cool'' All they like is big V8's and turbos! My yaris is the same that was shown in this video. The 1.33 TR 16v 100bhp. I test drove Ford, Opel, VW, BMW, Nissan, Citroen ect ect, and I think this car just might be the best Super Mini On the Market Today!
The 5th Gear verdict on this Yaris is quite favorable. However, I have since discovered contrary, negative opinions from ‘What Car?’ (UK) and Consumer Reports (USA). Consumer reports goes as far to say it is the ONLY Toyota it would NOT recommend and claims it is worse than the previous model. Having driven and been disappointed with the previous model, I was hoping for better.
@den525 By no means am I bashing on the qualities of the car - it has a great price-to-qualities ratio. I only expressed a sub-jective personal opinion. Just put next to a current version Fiesta, the Yaris looks a bit "grown up". A car targeted mainly at young people should not, IMHO. Cheers mate, and V8 Supercars r00le!
THIS IS WHAT I DON'T LIKE WITH ALL OF THE NEW YARISES. They're turning into Toyota Aurises. Still the front and the door mirrors, interior, ect of this Yaris is snazzy. Just wish the Yaris will be small again. To closest thing to it is the iQ and is more expensive than what it should be.
I've just tested this Yaris in Japan (which is called "Vitz" here) and I didn't found anything worth paying for it. Seats are rubbish, suspension setting is bloody awful, and the worst thing about it is CVT gearbox. The Yaris for European market must be a totally different car according to this review. What a shame.
the bit where he says "im looking at you nissan micra" well i had a nissan micra with the full stereo shit in it, and the car was awful. like terrible, i drive a mk1 yaris and the micra was a 61 plate, and i hated the micra with a passion. stereo was good though.
Why oh why won't Toyota bring the diesel that gets ~70 MPG Imperial (=~58 MPG US) over to North America? Better torque and that kind of mileage - no brainer!
It just doesn't have that distinct Yaris look anymore and I thought a 1.3 litre engine was bad enough. 1.0 litre you say? Goodluck going up a hill haha
I dont like the styling (exterior). The front, especially the lights shape is too big for a car this size, almost more like a mpv. And i must say, all in all it reminds me more of the korean brothers of same class, you know i20 and etc. They could have made it better and more funky. I mean they are loosing potential customers (young people) with those looks. But the interior plastic is expected like this imo, its a cheap car in the end. Its not a Mini and costs probably half as much.
Gadgets - nice. But the same time and effort to make this design of the car can be invested in a better one, and that's where this car fails miserably. Good car, but not particularly good to look at.
enemay What a ridiculous comment. Have you not heard of NCAP ratings? Guess you are another one of those people that trys to justify a silly big SUV for safety reasons LOL.
They must be cutting costs by not paying a designer at all. It looks so pointless inside and out that you can't even say that it's good at being ugly, like the Fiat Multipla is.
patriotbarrow Like every other sheep. People buy Toyota cars for build quality and reliability, and will wave at you as they pass you at the side of the road, waiting for the AA man :D again :)
AndreasHappyfarm I had a new Polo. Nowhere near as good as VW make it out to be. Poor quality interior, rattled, poor handling. 15K for that, and got rid after 4 months.
I had a vw polo looks good externally but overtime I started seeing wearing on the steering wheel which became very noticeable it feels smaller inside compared to Yaris. The car only lasted up to 60'000 before it became a write off. I now owned a Yaris and have noticed a subtle difference in quality.

I'm glad they put the dials back in front of the driver.

Wasn't the cabin very quiet? I feel it was very quiet, he was doing 60mph in a super mini..
good review and agree on all points
I love the 2009 Yaris. This looks like a pretty major step up.
Great review
i like this yaris

whats the equivalent in the US? or has it just not made it over yet...?
@roysyboy not everyone has access to high-speed internet!
i have one just like in the video down to the color...its suuuuch a good car...

So uhm, how is it to drive on the left side of the road and change gear with your left arm? That's must be so special
1:20 Was that Rise Against?
looks a bit like a peugeot 207 if u look it from the sides don't u think?
he didnt mention that it also rivals the honda fit/jazz
i love this guy!!!

No HD? Come on!...
@roysyboy They have to cut corners ...

@245thegreat Because I know the roads I travel really well?
Those tiny engines must make it an absolute joy on motorways...
Tomi Lätti The 1.33 is a fine cruiser, with 6 gears. Guess you need an ego boosting BIG turbo diesel eh?
My daughters 1.0 5 speed is near silent at 70 but noisey getting there and 60 mpg
I`m looking at you Nissa Micra... So true ^_^
@245thegreat Eh, sure, why not? I don't need satnav.
@mdfk667 Looks are objective, overall it is a good car for that price!
he speaks like matt from car buyer ... or may be he wrote the scrips for him ?
2:58 niahahaha i love this
@roysyboy amen

3:11 i was expecting it to be blown into pieces..then i thought wait! its not topgear its fifth gear!!
2 people are Nissan micra owners
Probably because your country has so many pick up trucks and SUVs :P

@ftpaddict then you my friend are stuck in the 19th century =D
480p? Even my mom does HD vids ;/

stereo was good though.
I wonder why we don't get sat nav with a rear view camera in the U.S. This stinks. :( lol
@ftpaddict and fit it with a more reliable tom tom =D
But I think the main reason is it's SLOWER.

pew2007 1 litre engines DO go uphill. They have something called GEARS. Have to use them a bit more, but they work.
lets just say I wouldn't fancy the one liter :D

I love super minis, they are the most fun to drive. With that said I would never buy one, because I don't want to die in 30 mph crash. :)

2nd
It looks really "French"!
They must be cutting costs by not paying a designer at all. It looks so pointless inside and out that you can't even say that it's good at being ugly, like the Fiat Multipla is.
..and yet I'd still buy a Fiesta.
patriotbarrow Like every other sheep. People buy Toyota cars for build quality and reliability, and will wave at you as they pass you at the side of the road, waiting for the AA man :D again :)
I'd have a Polo ANY day.. The Yaris is fugly inside AND outside.

In my country, Yaris is a car full of shit .. it is so bad ..
I'd rather go with a Full Option Hyundai Accent which cots a less.
boring car
What an incredibly boring looking car. Must have spent bout a fiver in the design. I take it this is solely aimed at bored grannies n grandads?
Boring as hell design
ahpadt Nothing boring about it. What do you want instead? Body kit, stripes, big fin on the back. Absurd
