Eddie and Benoit hugged each other is the greatest Wrestlemania moment ever.
Agreed. I cried my Eyes out back then and it still brings me Tears to my Eyes today but for all the wrong Reasons.
I agree
I was in my 10th grade at that point and this felt so emotional and is a personal favourite of mine.Years down the line still have emotions but mixed ones thanks to whatever happened in the aftermath.
Best ending to a Wrestlemania and the only others that come close is WM 31 and 30
It was, now Benoit is in hell.
This wrestlemania is one of my personal favourites. Seeing Eddie & Benoit celebrating their title wins together ❤
Real tears from both of them. Such a good night for wrestling.
best mania ever for me Benoit was my favorite wrestler I wrestle 11 years because of him
Hands down the best Main Event ever in WrestleMania history
The ending to this Wrestlemania is one of the greatest of all time with Benoit and Guerrero embracing each other as both of them were the World Champions, but WWE will never acknowledge this or the main event and that sucks, which btw is one of the greatest WM main events I’ve ever seen
They can’t glorify a murderer.
One if the greatest builds too, as he won the royal rumble from the #1 position. Which always makes me feel weird in rumble season.
And they are 100% correct in not doing that. What Benoit did is faaaaaaaaar more important than any championship win or wrestling moment. You can’t separate him from what he did (even with CTE), you just can’t.
@@hectic105 I was there in 2007, I remember when it happened, I know all that, I’m just saying it sucks is all
@@stormcity8 Benoit was due to testify against Vince for the steroid use of Eddie which resulted in Eddie's death... defo something gone on there
I literally cried watching this PPV live all those years ago when Eddie came out to celebrate with Chris... I'm glad they got to share that moment together before all the tragedy.
That Eddie Guerrero win was the best Eddie Guerrero way of winning we could see at the biggest show of the year.
Undertaker returned as Deadman at that ppv was one of legendary moments
The build up was god tier! I got so hyped for that return!
Kane just screaming “no it’s not true” made me so happy. Didn’t even matter how the match went after that
the Gong and return of Paul Bearer. 10/10
WM XX was the second ppv I ever watched (rumble 04 was my first) and honestly this show is what made me a fan. This show will always make me smile 😊
Royal Rumble 2004 is one of my favorite Rumble matches, alongside 1998,2000,2001 and 2005.WWE was just so good in tying in long term storylines back then.
Wrestlemania 20 had the best ending in Wrestlemania history and that triple threat match was one of the greatest triple threat match of all time.
*may be the greatest triple threat
WrestleMania XX is the greatest professional wrestling even in history, with the main event being the greatest triple threat match in the history of professional wrestling.
Period.
@@tathagatadasgupta4516 no they were better manias
@@Herbert_Rudolf might be a couple better WMs but not many.
@@Herbert_Rudolf can you name some
Say what you will, that shot of Torrie Wilson pointing at Stacy's butt is iconic
You mean Jackie's butt.
Undertaker returning at wrestlmenaia 20 is one of the greatest returns of all time
The ending of Mania 20 is so bittersweet now knowing both men in the ring would be dead within 3 years 😩
Yeah. It hurts to think about.
"I don't think about teenage boys, because that would make me a psychopath" I laughed so fucking hard
I actually went to this show, me and a friend won tickets to it, and two things always stand out to me about the Goldberg and Lesnar match. 1. The crowd reaction you hear on TV was so much quieter compared to what actually happened in the arena. The crowd was seriously unhappy and very vocal about it, and I definitely think that Vince came out immediately to try and smooth it over and 2. We got invited to go into the wrestlers hotel afterwards and Goldberg was incredibly polite and gracious to all of the fans, and I gained a lot of respect for him, the guy dealt with the situation very well.
I was in the crowd and I wasn’t booing at Lesnar vs Goldberg bc they were both leaving I was booing because I have intense hatred for Goldberg since his debut and still to this day
Are you a WWE crowd?
Do you say anything that's legitimately entertaining or interesting, or are you all about getting yourself over?
Oh, and those are rhetorical, don't bother answering.
"What the hell is AEW? Don't come into my house with your voodoo!" 😂😂
Rey looks so young, it's nuts. He looks like a little kid at a costume party.
He was only 29. 🍼
Wrestlemania 21 and 20 are the most underrated wrestlemania of all time. It isn't talked about more as Wrestlemania 17 and 19
Em yes
The ruthless aggression era had the best manias. Wrestlemanias 19-24 are all great.
Listen I was 8 years old when Wrestlemania XX took place. Let’s jus say my dad got a $1700 cable bill that month because I bought it every time it was available on PPV 😂😂😂
i was there and it was an amazing feeling to see eddie and chris celebrating at the end
I definitely think WrestleMania 20 was one of the best WrestleManias ever. The only match I didn’t like on the show was the Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar match. I was kinda disappointed with how it turned out.
it wasnt bad but it could be better (lesnar vs goldberg)
@UCLcFi07rJKwcQGFfCZri4nw really?
They literally weren't even trying, and Lesnar literally flipped off the crowd afterwards.
When they blatantly and stop trying two minutes in and actually insult the crowd, it's pretty incredible to hear someone defend.
Wait, Goldberg?
Did your son teach you how to use the internet? I'm never forgiving Simon Miller.
@@tyrone5969 Lesnar did say on Stone Cold’s podcast that he was actually flipping off Vince McMahon, not the crowd.
Funny enough someone in a vid at a comments section who attended WM20 said how there was also a fight breaking out on the crowd and a hulk hogan dressed guy
WrestleMania 20 is by far one of the best Manias ever. Just behind 17. Imo.
XXVII, XIX, and XX are all amazing Manias. It was a great run they had.
I remember living this and if you can’t underestimate how much it meant to have Benoit win this, it was a perfect end to a perfect story and when they hugged in the ring at the end, it was that feel good ending which at that time you never really got in wwe, great main event, very sad now of course
Regardless of what Benoit did I'm always gonna regard him of one of the best wrestlers in the world who created the greatest WrestleMania closing moment with that hug with Eddie
No other wwe moment has made me warm and fuzzy in my tum tum like the Benoit and Eddie celebration
I hope Simon Miller knows that I appreciate him doing the Hall of Fame music. Wasn't sure how far he'd take it, but I sang along. I got a hearty laugh outta that. And multiple other moments.
The best triple threat match and WM Endings of all time IMO
Eddie and Chris celebrating as champs in the Land of the Giants is my all time favorite wrestling moment of all time 🙏🏼🔥🔥🔥
I remember having this on dvd when i was younger i watched it so many times
Honestly Simon, I applaud the UP you granted the main event. As a huge Benoit fan when I started getting into wrestling, the way his life ended makes it difficult to be objective in his matches. I may have abstained from rating it altogether, but if you can just put yourself in the moment, this was one of the greatest Wrestlemania moments of all time
Sable secured her 3-0 WM record!!!
RVD has the biggest streak tho
@@felizbertomontanelas9562 5-0
Man, the main event was always my favorite match and moment, but I can't even bring myself to turn on the whole event at all since the tragedy... I never thought it would hit me that way, Benoit, Eddie, and Bret were my all time favorites to watch work. Damn shame.
Yah, it really does suck. I respected the hell out of Benoit back in the day, but after that happened…it just fundamentally changes how any of his matches can be viewed for the rest of time.
@@hectic105 pro wrestling is about suspension of disbelief, the ability for us to detach ourselves from reality and invest in a story played out through combat. If you can ignore and forget pro wrestling is "fake" then is it too much of a stretched to ignore and forget - if only for 20 minutes - the Benoit tragedy?
@@rossclutterbuck1060 yes, because you're watching an actual child murderer.
Watching a Batman movie is suspension of disbelief.
Watching and celebrating a Batman movie where the central star is a child murderer is supporting a child murderer.
Pretty simple.
This was my very first wrestlemania I had ever seen. To this day it's still my favourite
One of my favourite manias. Always enjoyed this show.
To me, 2nd best Wrestlemania with one of the greatest endings ever!
22:27 I agree, a big match featuring Kurt Angle from that era where he actually LOSES! Should be worth seeing just for that alone! (I always hated him)
JR’s commentary going off the air was so epic & emotional
I know what happened with Benoit and it was a tragedy. Doesn't change the fact that he had some of my favorite matches ever.
Who would have thought 3 of the Divas on the show went to be Hall of Famers and another would be Mrs Brock Lesnar
Raw Feb 14, 2011. The Rock returns after 7 years. The reaction he got was so thunderous you could barely hear his entrance music
This is my favorite Mania personally, I cried so much when I saw Eddie & Chris embrace in the ring together atop of the wrestling world as world champions🥺
Simon do wcw world war 3 for 1996
This is the first time I ever watched wrestling and I fell inlove with it when I saw big match John win the US title
Little 11 year old me was there in the front row that night, my first ever live WWE event, and I have to say the energy in that building was insane the entire night but when Benoit won the title I honestly thought the arena was going to explode.
The playboy evening gown match between Torrie Wilson and Sable vs Stacy Keibler and Miss Jackie was an amazing Match 10X Better than the Past 6 years of the Women's revolution that's my own opinion.
Re-watching Wrestlemania XX one of the best Wrestlemania ever fills me with great nostalgia just sad what occurs a few years after
Lucha underground Aztec warfare 2 debut of Rey Mysterio and Matanza
When it was revealed Heenan and Mean Gene were making out with Moolah and Mae, my brother laughed for a legit full minute. So, him, this angle was for him.
Still the best triple threat match ever
The way Simon is chuckling is contagious
I watched this with a friend as it happened, it was a great show especially compared to the garbage that is WWE nowadays. Up from me on the overall show. Simon you need to release an album of your version of our favorite superstar themes 🤣 I laugh everytime you do them. Also review summerslam 1990, go wayyyy back just once
My first ever wrestling show I watched. Holds a big place in my heart
It’s so sad what happened with Benoit. This is how I’d like to remember him. One of the best to ever do it
3:00 WrestleMania XX was 17 years ago, so if Shane had a just-born baby that wanted to grow up to be a wrestler, it would almost be getting legal to do so.
They would be able to wrestle I mean the Hardy's did it. Rey was under 17 when he started wrestling. I don't see why they wouldn't let Shane's kids wrestle if they wanted to. Plus rules are different for hiring people who are younger than 18 than someone who is related to the business owner. I mean Kenny Omega did wrestle a 9 year old so yeah.
@@esya1987 I thought for legal reasons the WWE wouldn't hire people under 18.
and the rules about being related to the business owner only applies to non-dangerous work, at least around here the last time I checked the child labor laws.
Started watching in 1997 but this was my first Wrestlemania (we never had cable or PPV and I was only able to watch this because of a friend) and I enjoyed every moment. I never left my chair from start to finish... Every performer did their best with whatever they were given that night... Some feuds ended some started.. Great review!
Simon grades Retro Ups and Downs harsher than raw. 😂
The first match i remember reacting to is Eddie Guerrero vs Brock Lesnar at No Way Out
and then my brain defaults to remembering the Undertaker entrance at Wrestlmania 20 THEN John Cena winning and then back to the Triple threat main event.
Definitely an amazing Pay Per View
Edit: Obviously... i dont remember much of this show lol Goldberg vs Brock was also on this 🥲
and i did not know anyone set themselves on fire 😂
And i didn't like the surprise rollup at all
How the hell was the triple threat not a 5 star match? In terms of story, drama, physicality, realism, high spots and finish it's as good as any of the official 5 star matches by Meltzer
Because Meltzer is the biggest clown related to wrestling. How he has an audience is astonishing.
This man must have incredible fruit ninja skills with his hand motions....
I so distinctly remember ordering WrestleMania XX on PPV and watching with my Dad, and I was naturally ecstatic to watch Chris Benoit win the World Heavyweight Championship and celebrate with Eddie Guerrero. There was one small, insignificant little problem; I mistakingly ordered the show in Spanish. I'm a moron!
WCW Uncensored 1996, just for the Doomsday Cage Match.
Imagine if Chris Benoit didn't go for the World Heavyweight Championship but instead went for the WWE championship for Wrestlemania 20 and got to wrestle Eddie and Kurt in a triple threat match.
What a bittersweet event this considering everything that happened later
This Tuesday in Texas 1991 next please
I LOVED BROCK VS GOLDBERG BACK IN THE DAY :D
Since cena going for 17th world belt u should do the mania where he won his first
Watched it like you said. Cole at the beginning saying something along the lines of Kurt Angle is complaining that a drug addict like Eddie Guerrero is the champion was one of the most uncomfortable things in an uncomfortable show.
That one episode of Raw leading to taboo Tuesday where it ends with HHH vs Jericho in a lumberjack match and orton comes back to RKO everyone.
5:38 It was not Raw Tag Team Championship, it was World Tag Team Championship and on Smackdown it was WWE Tag Team Championship now known as Raw Tag Team titles.
Do they not do the polls to choose the show for retro ups and downs anymore?
I dont understand why people always complain about triple threat matches when they always turn out to be fire.
They historically have far less rest periods and they keep the action going
Wrestlemania 20 was the first PPV I ordered after getting back into wrestling in 2003. I still remember so clearly watching it with my 3 friends and my brother and his 2 friends. Had a bit of bloat and all the stuff everyone was waiting for was in the back half of the show but I enjoyed it so much. Recorded it on a VHS tape and watched it for months lol.
Jericho very rarely botches, but when he does, it looks like he's about to die.
One of the greatest.
The main event was phenomenal 🔥🔥
This is where I started seeing to it that I watch Wrestlemania every year. I had a VCD of this and it got waaatched over and over. ✨
Great video. I can watch and re-watch WhatCulture videos all day long. I do have an idea for a Retro video. The ppv that has the Inferno match between Taker & Kane, because I think thatg match was pretty cool, and definitely one od a kind. Thank you.
7:30
Like a lot of WWE's sillier stuff, it's tailor made for an audience of one.
Anyone ever notice the hand holding up the number cards has to many fingers? Kind of creepy.
Eddie guerrero should won the royal rumble and go to raw
This ME here is one of my favorite of All time matches ! Ever..
Haa!
Always happy to see more Up & Downs videos of all sorts, Both gentlemen (Gareth + Simon) handle their content really well.
😄👍
This was the first mania I ever seen when I was 8 it makes me feel so old that it was nearly 20 years ago Jesus
Finally Wrestlemania XX!
Is it strange that as a kid I always looked forward to Sunday Night Heat during a ppv just to see the stage?
You just unlocked a memory I've long forgotten lol
I am watching some old WCW Nitro shows and seeing Ray so young back then is crazy but it seems he has only gotten better with time, even back then though his style was new here so to see it done amazed the fans.
Eddie Vs angle is a golden Up Simon and You know it!!!
I’ll watch this tomorrow, getting lit right now. Finally you did wrestlemania 20.
Renee Dupree was 21 and I can't believe that today he's only 37!
Unforgiven 2006
We are quickly approaching the 15 year anniversary of the last good Trish Stratus match! We NEED to celebrate this with the Ups and Downs!
My only (to date) live Mania I’ve attended. Where it all begins again made a lot of sense to me, as my oldest son born a couple of months before Shane’s first child. Crazy that they are 17-18 years old now.
My very first wrestling PPV in my hometown NYC. When undertaker walked down the ramp, I was a wrestling fan forever after that. Top that off with one of the greatest triple threats and em main events, me and wrestling became inseparable.
Such a shame, however, that the thumbnail brings up fond, nostalgic memories with a frightening and grim hue glowing around it.
“ Jussssssst Look At Meeeee. Aaaaaaaaain’t I a sight to see… “ *Rob Conway’s theme song *
First ppv I bought (4 of us 15y olds put the money together). Would give golden ups to everything, even the Goldberg Lesnar one
Same thing with me. We were all yelling tap out to hhh
@@bradleybledsoe3421 ha, was a HHH mark (still am tbh) but Benoit win just felt right
I was into the WWF from 1989 to about this time. I got into high school and just kinda stopped watching. All this is new to me. But I can see that I probably made the right choice at the time (except for a few great matches I missed)
The first wrestling show I ever watched live was the Smackdown after Wrestlemania XX, that was when I got into wrestling, and man did I love that episode of Smackdown, even though it wasn't that amazing, still seeing Eddie Guerrero as champion was so cool. Then when I saw Wrestlemania XX itself, it really blew my mind, and Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit became my favorite wrestlers ever.
Thinking of this just made be think of how, if anyone involved in any show or ppv does anything like what "Voldermort(as far as WWE is concerned)did, that whole episode/ppv will disappear, labelled "didn't happen", "keep out", etc.
How about reviewing TNA Bound for Glory 2008? I actually just want to see Simon review a TNA PPV. 😉
You can see the joy leave Simons soul when talking about the playboy match
That match was great tho
Even back then I was like...okay this is enough
I was 10 I loved it
Trip’s render in that match graphic is appallingly bad.
Summer Slam 2004
It sucks that the most heartwarming ending to any WrestleMania ever is now tainted by a certain somebody's certain actions.
Yeah Kevin Sullivan because Benoit is innocent
