    Hanks couldn't quite figure out the right voice until he heard the real speech pattern of the actor who played young Forrest. Hanks was doing an impersonation of magic legs Forrest.

    A “Forrest Gump in Space” was sort of made … by MAD Magazine. In the 90’s they did an Apollo 13 parody where instead Hanks and Senise play Gump and Lt. Dan in the premiss of Apollo 13, where hilarity ensues.
    Also, does anyone remember MAD TV’s “Gump Fiction”?

    Forrest Gump is one of my favorite movies. I watched it five times in the theater and I know every word of it. I used to come home from high school and put it in the VHS player and just let in play over and over while being a teenager and talking on the phone with friends all night. Such great memories for me. Been to most all the filming locations and will be in Monument Valley this summer to knock another one off the list. Zemeckis and Silvestri are brilliant bringing this movie to life and of course Hanks who is the man!

    Forrest Gump somewhat went into space.
    The next time you watch Apollo 13, you can pretend Tom Hanks was reprising his role as Forrest Gump for the film. And as a bonus, you can pretend Gary Sinise grew back his legs.

    • @hunterolaughlin
      @hunterolaughlin 2 месяца назад +7

      @garrettbays6942 2 месяца назад +4

      Also, in Apollo 13, it was mentioned in the epilogue that the person Sinise was acting as later flew the space shuttle. Plus, keep in mind what the reference was to what Dan said his artificial legs were made out of, "Titanium alloy. It's what the use on the space shuttle." Now, this is not a fortuitous prediction of Gary Sinise's appearance in Apollo 13 (though I am sure that a lot of people will say it is), but a reference to when he said earlier in the film, "If you are ever a shrimp boat captain, that's the day I'm an astronaut!"

    When Forrest was saying " Life was like a box of chocolate " he was quoting his mom's PAST saying. Which makes total sense. Lets say your dad asked where your mom is. She told you she is going to the store . But you tell your dad mom said she WAS going to the store. Forrest's mom probably said " Life IS like a box of chocolate " to him. But when telling the story he says was. But it's easy to confuse the both together because you think of both conversations. It's always been was. The Mandela effect is nothing more than a tricky, faulty memory.

    • @NZBigfoot
      @NZBigfoot 2 месяца назад

      I believe Forrests mum DOES infact say 'Life is like' during the movie... while Forrest says 'Life was like'. That being said there are some Mandela Effects that are far more interesting and chin scratching (That Bernstein Bears one is one I know for certain doesnt sit right with me as a kid that was an avid reader and watcher of the books and cartoons), and im not sure when the idea became linked to conspiracy... granted that doesnt mean its a real thing.

    I've eaten at Bubba Gump's Shrimp Co. Specifically the one in Monterey, California. Good experience. We sat at a table overlooking Monterey Bay with the otters swimming around just outside the window. There was a mock-up of the bus bench out front with Forrest's shoes, suitcase and box of chocolates, where you could sit and pose for photos. In the men's room, the large, handicapped stall with grab bars and room for a wheelchair had a sign on the door, "Lieutenant Dan's".
    Bottom line, the food and service were good and not all shrimp dishes. I'd eat there again.

They were in the protest scene where Jenny runs through the water at the National Mall. The best part is they each got paid $500 a day! And I think they shot for 2 or 3 days. Not bad for 2 high school girls in 1994.

    little Jenny being responsible for her abusive father's death by releasing the tractor handbrake so it runs him down in the corn field.
    This element was removed as the filmmakers decided audiences
    wouldn't forgive Jenny for such a violent act, no matter how evil her father was.

Each stage of his life is defined by the shoes he is wearing: Leg braces for childhood, cleats for College, army boots for after college, sea legs, running shoes. A wonderful movie about shoes.

    Btw..it's pretty clear if you look at the scene at 5:06 , in the movie as he gets himself back in the chair, it's clear he used his "invisible" legs to get up, and into, the chair.

    There's a book called Illusions the journey of a reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach and if you read the book and compare the overall main concept of it to the movie of Forrest Gump there's a lot of connections to it. And ironically on the cover of the book there's a single blueish color feather and at the end of Forrest Gump when the feather takes flight it reminds me of the book. If you haven't read the book I highly recommend it. It's a very short book that's easy to read in a couple hours but it's storyline and message is life changing. And even though it's about a Messiah it's really not religious or pushing any religious beliefs. It's just a good way of looking at life. Anyway thanks Minty. Cheers!

    I was quick to notice when I first watched Forrest Gump how it seamlessly appeared as if Hanks did interact with those historical figures. My older brother noted how the only instance when it was betrayed that special effects were used was the scene when Gary Sinece’ character tumbles out of his wheelchair and needs to hoist himself back in; the moment when Sinece gets back into the chair, his posture isn’t one of a guy struggling with his arms.

    Forrest did go to space. It was Apollo 13. Explains why they had so many issues, yet everything worked out in the end, in true Gump fashion.
    Also, when he’s says, “Momma always said life was like a box of chocolate…”, he’s saying what his mother said in past tense. As when he is saying it, she had been dead for several years.
    My wife and I took our honeymoon to Savanna GA, where the bus stop scenes were filmed. Was pretty awesome being in the town square there and learning about it. It’s actually a one way circle around, and they had to shoot it with traffic going the wrong way so the bus doors were on the correct side. Fun facts, fun times.

    “Life is like a box of chocolates” shouldn’t really count as Mandela effect. If anything, it just shows how flawed the English language is. Mrs. Gump said, laying in her death bed: “Life is a box of chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you’re gonna get.” Forrest paraphrased her metaphor, making it a simile by adding “like”. The word “was” simply replaced “is” because he was using past tense. When we paraphrase the quote, we combine Mrs. Gump’s present tense usage with Forrest’s simile. The phrase becomes, “Life is like a box of chocolates.” That’s a bit more complex than the whole “Luke, I am your father” thing.

    This was filmed around my hometown in Beaufort, SC. People come here to see the settings. My brother worked security during the Vietnam scenes. It was so huge a few years after it came out. The hype died down after about 10 years. The bench he sat on in Savannah had to be removed because of vandals; there's just a sign there now. As per usual in our southern towns, you can't have nice things.

      Does it really show us that and do you? My interpretation is in the grand scheme of things it hardly matters what any of us do. Does the man make history or does history make the man? Events occur and there's always someone there. Or it wouldn't be an event.

    Great review. I love watching this film. I remember seeing it on the big screen back in 94. That was a great experience. I love that Forrest was going to be a wrestler and was going to have a pet monkey, even going into the space would have been cool. Just imagine Forrest in space saying "Mama, we have a problem"!

    Great Video Minty, to a film, that will always be in my top 10 😎
    Funny thing, in the german Version is no Mandela Effect. It was always the line: "Das Leben, ist wie eine Schachtel Pralinen. Man weiß nie was man kriegt." Not in english version "was", just in the present (german dub) "is".
    In my childhood we have the same discussion in my family, about the legs from Leutnant Dan 😂
    I hope too that Forrest Gump will fly to the Stars

    Hey, Minty. Fun facts about Tom Hanks and his family.
    His father was a chef and taught culinary arts at Laney College in Oakland. Yes, he was my instructor for a semester. He liked my stuffed bell peppers. I had no idea at the time who he was since Tom wasn't famous yet. I was two grades behind Tom at Skyline High School. My sister was in the same grade with him.I found out he was Tom's dad when I read an interview with Tom, and he mentioned his dad taught there.
    Tom footed the bill to have the entire drama department and auditorium redone at Skyline High. Lights,sound,everything. He came back for an evening to say hello and " bless" the new stuff.You had to get tickets to go. It was worth it.The drama club did a Forrest Gump take off, and many of the old thespian students were there as well.
    They handed out kazoo's to everyone ( Tom was the president of the Kazoo Club in school), and we all played a silly song. He was extremely nice and very, very gracious to everyone. The revamped auditorium cost a quarter of a million dollars. He was in the musical South Pacific in high school. It's was a pretty small part. He was a doorman at the Hilton Hotel by the Oakland Airport for a while also. Then goofy Tom Hanks went on to be a mega star. Who would have guessed that? My mother. When we watched the South Pacific production, my mother leaned over and said to me, "There's something special about that young man." She was right.
