Flying in IL2 with a motion rig and bass shakers is a ton of fun. Also, not only is the AI better at dogfighting than in DCS, but personally I also find the visuals a bit better overall. Maybe the cities and buildings aren't quite as detailed and well spread out in IL2, but the overall feel and atmosphere is definitely more cinematic than DCS. The campaigns are more fun as well. Things do get laggy however with more realistic numbers of AI air and ground units. A powerful CPU makes a big difference in IL2 for that as well, just like it does in DCS and MSFS. Yes to more IL2 content!
I couldn't agree more with your comments here and I'm glad you also think the AI is better than DCS, I just know I'm gonna get slaughtered for saying that haha. More IL2 it is! 😊
I came back to Il2 too lately. Thanks to the pico4 and a 4090. Today I intercepted Heinkels with the P38 and I absolutely love the Il2 P38. It really sounds great, especially compared to the MFSF P38, which is kind of odd, since Flying Iron has done such a good sound job with the Spitfire. I always hoped at some stage FI would spend its P38 better sounds, but nope. So it will stay in my MSFS hangar and I 'll keep enjoying the Il2 Version. And the Me262 is an absolute blast. Intercepting a group of B25 or B26 is a real bad turkey shoot but so much fun. And the clouds look absolutely stunning. You mentioned it several times before and I couldnt agree more
Great to know there's so much love for IL2 out there, it's such a refreshing change from MSFS and even DCS. Thanks for watching and be safe out there 😅
I too just came back to IL2, but having trouble with the pilot's head position not being centred (G2), so still fiddling around rather than flying - or buying the Normandy, which was the attraction of ckecking out IL2 again. Any tips to fix the issue most welcome.
Oh Wow! Issue resolved: I set pilot head position in non-VR for each plane and saved with F10. Then, I noted that opencomposite works with IL2 and Bingo! head moves in and out side to side without drifting. Normandy here I come.
@@michaeloliver7545 try using F10 whilst not paused should fix most issues along with centering vr position (to whatever key you have bound it, I use space bar)
90fps in VR in IL-2 is a reality and I love it! It's easily the most optimised for VR flight sim and it's so pick up and playable and it loads so much faster than MSFS! Not as pretty but with some mods it still holds up and the immersion is top notch! Lovely to see you flying in IL-2 :) You're lucky you have friends like @belgeode who fly and support you!
Time play il2 quite a bit and I have played DCS. The dog fighting and smooth gameplay that I seeing this game with my HP Reverb G2 is unbelievable. It will be interesting to see what the next generation of VR brings.
Good stuff mate! I've been subbed to BelGeode for a long time now. I'm really into the WWII stuff now, even though I have some of the modern airframes and choppers.
Super chuffed you have made this review with IL2 Steve, so yes please a lot more with IL2. It appears that AMD have resolved their earlier issues with VR then ? I have been reluctant upgrading to a 7900XTX for just that reason.
My pleasure Paul, it's not blistering performance but considering the price difference between my own system and this, I'd say it's performing very well. Keep in mind though, IL2 generally rocks in VR and doesn't need such an overhead like msfs and dcs. Cheers!
done one small dogfight yesterday also in my H2 and what a feeling. You dont have to look outside to recognice how hard you pitch down. You feel it. Very awesome. Doing a Gun Run in the DCS A10C-II gives me goosebumps even if think of my last one with that rig now. Il2 is also my go to for warbirds. Awesome Sim!!!
yes, please! But what I would really love to see is you playing through the missions of a campaign or career. Or alternatively fly with a fun casual multiplayer squadron online in the Finnish server, or something like that.
The WW1 stuff is pretty cool in VR too. You think the planes will be terrible but they manoeuvre around like fighter jets. The WW2 planes seem like tanks in comparison.
More IL-2 please! Just installed it today and i’m loving it together with my Pico 4. I’m waiting for my DOF reality H3 to arrive, that I bought following your recommendation. Could you share in your discord what settings you are using in IL-2? Thank you for your content!
Interesting to see a different SIM and it’s integration with your motion 💺. Great how the gun fire/hit/damage is all felt. All justifying that outlay huh!
Fun watching like always. But sorry to say it, a real performance test would be a "Beach Head Patrol Mission". With my Ryzen 5600x and a rtx3080 it is a Stutter Festival . :D I can not really give you tips for combat with this beautiful Spit. I'm typical flying at the opposite fraction. ;-)
Flying Circus is good crac in IL2 in VR with it's in your face dogfighting and you can take out your pistol too and fire off a few shots by hand from the open cockpits. Yum.
IL2 is a great game providing you put in the time to master your flying skills. For realism, It doesn't get any better I don't think! And that is the problem, (for me) i'm too old and prefer a more casual/easier gaming vs sim experience, LOL! The longer missions flying in formation are just fatiguing and boring to me, and there is too many limitations setting up a quick skirmish for some easy dogfighting fun. The AI accuracy for air and ground is just wickedly good and your a smoking ruin time after time after time, LOL!!!!! Felt like a suicide mission every time to dive in to strafe/bomb a target shooting back at you, (and about half the time I take as much damage as the target/ouch.... those boys back then had balls of steel.) Easy to see why all sides in WWII suffered huge losses in planes and pilots; some pilots managing to get shot down several times and survive to fight another day! For older systems, great overall sim for the VR experience too.
IL-2 couldn't be easier or more accesible with it's scalable difficulty and assistance options. If you want to, you can just jump in and control pitch and yaw and shoot, the AI can do everything for you, even dogfight!
Another great video! I’m curious, have you tried the haptic seat with the motion rig yet? It seems like the platform has its own haptics, so I wonder if it might be too much to use both?
Great video would it be possible to do a set up video of your motion rig in how you have attached your Hotas and Honeycomb controls really tempted to buy this rig.many thanks
Hello Steve, my question to you is the size of the motion simulator you have I want to get the exact one you got, as far as space I also don’t have a lot of room but I want roll and pitch and I also want to be able to swim race with it do they sell a step up from yours but the same size as yours and can you give me the link where I can purchase?
Quick tips on being a better pilot, number one: turn on the icons and get used to the distances. I do this in the quick missions like you're doing. Number two: see the distance that you are more likely to pull the trigger to shoot your target. Adjust your convergence to that distance + 10. The higher the convergent rate the more vertical angle you get. This is more exaggerated on Centerline fire aircraft. Wing-mounted aircraft traditionally have a closer range setting. A lot of German Pilots will set their convergence 350 to 450 M to gain advantage on the higher deflection, lowering the G-Force put onto the pilot and aircraft. Allied planes traditionally keep their gun ranges in the 250 M range. Don't forget if using the gyro site that you need to convert it to yards on the Allied aircraft. It does matter. Learn to shoot as if you're spraying a hose or a squirt gun at your target versus trying to shoot them with a pistol. Practice deflection shooting, learn to lead the Target in side shots but also how to shoot a plane from under the tail when it's diving and above its nose when it's climbing. Check out combat box when you're ready to get online. 😊
PS you can set other buttons for firing sequences like firing just the machine guns or firing the cannons. Versus just using the trigger. If you have a double stage trigger you can also program it to say just fire the machine guns versus the cannons. Personally though I don't use the second stage trigger because I tend to hold down the trigger.
iL2 has a couple of FM foibles, but for dogfighting it cannot be beaten. The Rhienland Airfield Defence mission is my go to if I've got an hour to kill
@Steve do you have or have you tried a Quest Pro? Meta have now FINALLY enabled local dimming for PCVR with update v51! This means colours/blacks/contrast should be dramatically improved over what they were was before. It would be great if you could borrow one for testing to see what you think of it. :)
As an avid fan of your RUclips channel could I please ask you and maybe anyone else who reads this your opinion. I’m from the real world of aviation. I restored WW2 Aircraft for a living down in the new Forest and I’m also an ex helicopter pilot. Thanks to you I’m desperate to get into flight sim with VR. That flyingirons Spitfire is incredible. My issue is everywhere I look it seems everything is about to take a massive jump in performance. I say about, clearly the next year or two. RTX 5000 series, AMD 8000 series, A.I added. Before I spend a large sum of money would it be a good idea to wait? I just feel what’s coming in the near future is going to be insanely good. Massive jumps in performance. Also without the huge cost of a 4090, what’s the best GPU to run with say a 5800x3d that will work with MSFS and a pico 4? I may build a lower budget rig while I wait for what’s coming but I still want it to work well. I really would appreciate your thoughts. Keep up the great work. Paul
Hey Paul firstly thankyou for your support! I'd say at the moment, the very best combo is the 13900k / 4090 and will be for a while... Although, like anything in the tech would, how long is impossible to say. The 4090 will probably remain king for a couple of years though, it's a real beast! It is expensive though and quite frankly in a league all on its own. I have not tried any other variants in the 40 series range so I cannot say how they perform sorry. But I've heard it's a big jump even from a 4080-4090. I'd stay away from AMD GPUs. I'll have the 7950X3D for testing soon.
@@VRFlightSimGuy Thank you for the reply. I totally agree with you. 4090 is the only real GPU option for serious VR flight sim. Time to raid the savings. CPU. A used 3090/3090ti at around $600 would probably be the "budget" option to the 4090. Save yourself a thousand dollars and won't lose much on resale later. I'd also agree on going with a 7800x3d over the 13900k. Being on AM5 means you'll have the ability later to just upgrade the CPU without needing a whole new platform.
