This was 7 weeks into the show and JD was still the only one there who understood the purpose of being there. Then again 15 years later, based on the comments I see on all these videos, much of the audience had no clue either. It wasn't American Idol or The Voice. The show wasn't about finding the "best singer". It was about finding who fit the band the best. They wanted a Hutchence replacement, not an individual that would make them go in a new direction, and JD proved he was that guy early on. Deanna never understood that her "comfort zone" was 0% INXS, that's why they asked for more. Ty, Mig, Suzie had great voices, but not fits. They never wanted to be the Killers or Franz Ferdidand, that's why Marty didn't win. Marty was happy going back to his band anyway, they are still going as far as I know, he just was hoping for a bigger push from this than they got. JD gave them what was their last hit with Pretty Vegas, and if you listen to the album, on some songs like Devil's Party he legit sounded like a Hutchence clone. That was what INXS wanted from day 1.
Marty and JD were in a different league. Both were always ready to write songs (Jordis sucked) , very composed while answering questions, not overly emotional (Mig , Ty and Suzie). Both of them were ready to lead the band and not just be lead by the existing members.
TheJwwinter Agreed. Jordis had a cool voice (albeit limited range) and style, but wasn’t really a songwriter or artist. She later tried to reinvent herself as a pop singer with not much success (see appearance on another music reality show)
why didnt ty win? Watch him sing what you need...I mean scream it. That song has to be performed with a certain cockiness, a swagger. I think as soon as inxs heard him do it they knew for sure he was not the guy.
A band member has to fit in, so personality chemistry is so important. Hard to find. But.... JD is the only one who doesn’t go off key, he can sing. Also he has no image, so a stylist can make him over. He’s the best of the bunch, but they will never replace a band member of 20 years. This show was about giving them another opportunity to rock.
I wonder if they had picked Marty? Would INXS have had a better come back? JD did great but it didn't last long enough. Marty was always my choice..have his recent solo album and love it
Ty didn't deserve this!!! He was great and still is great. Being that I'm from Southern California, if the United States is not as liberal as we are. Too many see the color of his skin.
The only one who you may have an argument on who he should have outlasted is Suzie. But she was not in the bottom 3 anymore until f4 when she rightfully went home. She outlasted Jordis as well because she avoided the bottom 3. The other 4, three were clearly better and one was a clear winner to them but he gave some intimidating performances that Ty didn't quite give.

Teresa Theme I think he was far better off being their opening act. He didn’t gel with the band... they just weren’t on the same page.
Deanas original was awesome but too rock n roll for inxs unfortunately. I still love it to this day and i wish there was a studio version

Peggy Jenkinson Ty is great... he’s just better as a solo act and not a frontman of a band like INXS... it had nothing to do with him being black.
