Hi Ellen. First of all, I really want to thank you for this video, and just as you yourself mention in the video - the importance of supporting each other, whether it's about making soap and skincare for your own use or as business owners. Plus, like me, when it comes to shop equipment or ingredients, it's all about being financially smart. I buy everything second hand, except for technically smart gadgets, such as if my TV should break. For certain equipment, you should buy new due to higher power consumption for older equipment. I also "grew up" in an antique shop, and my love in life towards antique furniture and older stuff grew deep. So keeping in mind mixers, blenders and immersion blenders. Now I do not point this out based on what last happened to your mixers, but I came to this myself before I bought my immersion blender. Just when working with soap making, which often steams with strong heat up against the handle. And this is something that happens for business owners, every week Month out and month in. We should not only have in mind when we goes to buy a mixer, that the engine should be strong. It is also important to keep in mind that the parts that you click together, for example on a mixer. Will last you much longer if they are made of metal. This is because metal can withstand heat, plastic does not have the same service life in this respect. What I want to get to is that it is not always the case that, for example, our mixers break due to heavy resistance, for example when whipping hot process. But in the end, the plastic in the upper part of the mixer, for so many years, has been exposed to such strong heat repeatedly - that the plastic gives up. Jii, this text until my tip, went long.. 🥴😆😉 And my mixer has as yours KitchenAid two parts, tho mine has buttons, so I dont have to screw the parts - Its just a click with my fingers and it pops off 😅

@@EllenRuthSoap I'm down South so, I use a company called Soap Goods due to the shipping AND the lower cost of some items. I pick and choose as you do. The only thing is Soap Goods doesn't have everything you need to make EVERY product.....mostly it's to do with soaping. I don't know where you are to Georgia, Soap Goods headquarters, but they can be much lower on the basics than anyone else I've found. They don't offer many sales because they're already low on price......They don't advertise a lot and I found them by accident....LOL. I was looking for a brick-and-mortar place to do pick-ups near me and Georgia came up. I'm in Mississippi so......not happening. LOL. Even with WSP having their sale this week Soap Goods is still cheaper on most items. And they are so nice. I had a package of Mango Butter get damaged in shipping and had to call them. They had me send pics to prove the damage and once that was settled they mailed out the replacement the next morning!!! I was happy. LOL.

Ellen. Oh I wish I’d had this a year ago when starting out. There were some videos out there, but your approach suits me, you give the rationale why you love an item. I burnt my cheap stick blender out within 6 months (hobbies) so to hear how yours lasted gives me hope. Bought one which is going well but the other day a back up both cheaper models, nearly tempted with a higher cost but budgeting stopped that. I didn’t consider weight of tool, that’s a good point but I had to laugh your age still a spring chicken Ellen. For me the hardest find has been mixing containers, I watch several using those wonderful square ones with markings and handles but postage from USA W…..is way too much and their not sold here.

I have had that new scale you just got for about 3 years. I love it. It is very accurate and has no problem weighing a big batch. I have workshop heritage molds too and they are the best. I need a good speed soap cutter. Yep I started with home made molds too. I am way beyond ready to move out of my kitchen. Real estate is still crazy expensive. I agree with you on the expensive essential oils. Nurture and mad micas are my go to. Brambleberry is just 2 hrs.up the road from me and they charge me insane shipping. I only want fragrances from suppliers that give you the info on CP soaping does it discolor and does it accelerate or decelerate/ This is a really good video.

Thank you so much for doing this video. I’m currently waiting for my tall and skinny slab mold to ship from workshop heritage. I’m so excited 😆 Please keep doing these videos. I’ve learned a lot by watching them.

Bonjour Ellen, I am from Canada (Montréal area, Québec), I have been watching your videos for quite some time now and have enjoyed every single one of them! Please, please, please a tour of your studio!!! I am so curious of your curing rack, but also (and foremost) how do you keep track of batches, recipes, inventory.... the list goes on. There is so much more than just making soap!!! to be successful. I'm strictly family and friends for now but debating about going bigger and your insight would be greatly appreciated. Your teaching skills transpire in video, much to your credit! Thank you so much in advance!

Thank you so much for this great video 😊😉! Have a great day and I love your videos and a subscriber.

I never knew about the recipes on Nature's Garden - awesome! Big Lots is my go-to for coconut oil and fine pink himalayan salt....coco oil is $12 for 102 oz (.12/oz!) and pink salt is a 5 lb jar for $4.79. Avocado oil is pretty reasonable there too. And no shipping!

    Awesome video Ellen!!
I have that scale as well and love it! I started with a very small food scale that has worked for years and still works so I use that one to weight my bars of soap after the cure. After using the kitchen for years I have now converted a spare bedroom into my soap studio and the basement for curing. You can never have enough room lol
Where do you buy your lye from? I get mine from Essential Depot.
Have you came up with a quick pain free way to wash all your tubs and utensils yet? That’s my biggest issue using a bedroom with no water so I make trips to the kitchen to wash😰😂

Lately I've been buying my lye on Amazon in 50lb pails... I wash my dishes between batches, but I heard Katie (royalty soaps) say that she used to put her dirty soap dishes in a garbage bag and let them saponify for a few days, they wash them with the soap they had left in them❣️

I heard her mention that too! Great idea if you have an abundance of extra dishes:) I only keep so many due to space. Right now I wipe them out with paper towels.
Great idea on the lye! The shipping with ED is so expensive:(
