  • We're using Rendered Bacon grease to make this soap today. Yes, the lard smells like salty bacon and I was skeptical about the odor.... But after saponification, it has no "bacon" smell at all❣️

I am a Lard girl! The soap is so lush on the skin and never smells like bacon post saponification. Great lather as it cures. However, very slow mover and must have patience. If you over stick blend with an accelerator FO, you will be sad😂 Thank you Ellen, for always sharing your amazing talent and love for soap making.

I use 75% lard, 20% Coconut and 5% castor. It's great! Using lard slows trace, it's good for more complicated swirls that need time.

Hello Elen! Thanks for that amazing recipe! You can also make potassium soap with that lard. Potassium hydroxide is used and neem oil is added. No color, no fragrance. Once the paste is ready, it is diluted and used as a natural insecticide and fungicide on plants. Big results! Greetings from Guatemala!😊

Ellen, I am trying your laundry soap. Cannot wait to use it. Regarding the rendered bacon, we use it so often here. I clean the chicken, beef, and pig fat. Then If you have rendered it, the bacon scent will not remain after curing and will smell like the fragrance you use. This works like a dream. Actually, people many people love to know their bars were made with bacon!

She had requested a fragrance that was known to accelerate, so I replaced my palm oil with lard and tweaked my recipe just a little in an attempt to slow it down. I did a layered soap and it worked great, but now I have a whole bucket of palm oil that I am going to struggle to use because I love the lard soap so much! 😂😅😊

I make all my soap with lard or tallow. Lard slows trace; tallow goes a little faster, but it makes a good, hard soap without the need for palm. My lard soap is always super white. I wonder if the residual sugars from the bacon are scorching just a little bit and making the soap yellow. I use as much CO as lard, and I get great lather.

I made a soap with 35%lamb tallow (home rendered) It had a lamb-smell all along, until after soaponification and cure for a few weeks. I used a fragrance called Cracklin Birch 3%. The recipe had 20% coconut, 15% palmbutter(palmkerneloil), 10% shea, 5% castor and 15% oliveoil (due to the high prices) I also added all of the extras ERS-style 🙂 It is now one of my go to soaps at home. You could probably wash it one more time in a crock pot if the bacon smell survives saponification???

This is not a soap comment. Do you like your scale? I recently bought a WeighMax scale, and the weight jumps all over the place and is not accurate. I am returning it. So, I need a new scale. Before I buy one, I was wondering how you like yours. Thank you!!!

Personally, I've been loving my scale. If I'm going fast, sometimes it takes a second for it to settle on a weight, so I can see what you're saying.
