What a great kit for someone who wants to give soapmaking a try! They would spend more than that to get everything they need separately, so yeah, what a great idea! And you make it look like so much fun! I bet Makesy is going to sell a lot of kits after this video :)

Wow, that kit is no joke. I would have happily paid full price for it a couple months ago when I started making soap. I didn’t get near as many items in the soap making kit I bought on Amazon. I love that the kit comes with a scale and stick blender and PPE… Anyone who buys it will be a very happy soap maker, for sure.

Lovely Kit Ellen. So you would be okay about soapmaking without a digital thermometer? Kinda fundamental don’t you think? So an extra piece of equipment people will need to buy to support their process. I would have to myself. Temperature checks are vital.
And the Trinity Blend? - 33% Coconut Oil, 33% RS Palm Oil & 34% Olive Oil? If so, a nice hard, bubbly & creamy soap bar from easily accessed oils that are not too expensive. This kit is a great teacher in the wisdom of master batching oils & lye - for that reason I love it! xx

Oh, how pretty that soap turned out to be! 👏💖 I guess it would be considered a brine bar? Or was that not quite enough salt? I think kits are a great way to learn. I began with a comprehensive kit from Bramble Berry more than 5 years ago, and still use many parts of it. I don't know if they still sell such an all-inclusive kit anymore, but it certainly made my first attempt simple and successful! I'm impressed with that lye solution that Makesy included - how easy and quick that makes mixing lye for a beginner! And their packaging and branding are gorgeous. Thanks for the demo! 🙏

I add powdered milk to the oils and blend them in really well before adding the lye solution.

@@makesyofficial Hi. I'm also confused on how to use the 50/50 lye solution. I plan to use my own formula/oil blend, with your lye solution that I currently have. Yet, I do not understand how to find out implementing the amount of extra water that I'll need. I use a Winston & Walter 7.5 pound soap mold (20.13" L x 2.56" W x 4" H), With a 1.5:1 ratio of water & lye. Also, use a 7% superfat, 3% citric acid, and 1% silk fibers . Please help 🙏🏽

This is a good beginners kit with a few concerns, too much plastic packaging in the kit, makesy need to address this, then the ongoing cost of pre-mixed lye and oils is very expensive, eg 2lb oil $19.95, 1.5lb of lye $12.95, you can purchase the oils and lye flakes much cheaper, and simply mix them together, it's not hard, it's just a 33% palm, olive, coconut mix, and 50/50 lye/water, you are definitely paying for the convenience, sadly makesy are very good at fancy marketing, I'm a bit sad to see Ellen promoting this kit, she is very environmentally conscious, this kit is unfortunately not, with so much plastic to deliver small quantities of initial an ongoing ingredients, saying that the kit is great for beginners to introduce them to soap making, it would be better of makesy to make it a bit more environmentally friendly

I hear your concerns. I think the point of the kit is to make it super easy for a beginner to make soap for the first time and have a "fool proof" recipe and method. I enjoyed the kit💕

Sorry Ellen, but I am really disappointed that as an experienced and regarded soap maker you obviously allowed your sponsorship and commissions to interfere with providing a honest review of this kit. I would have pointed out that while it is certainly true that the soap is "safe" to use and sell in two days, that it is because the saponification process is complete and there is no active Sodium Hydroxide present. You know as well as I do that soap needs to cure a minimum of four to six weeks...not just for water evaporation to produce a longer lasting bar of soap, but also for the crystalline structure to form to produce a gentler bar of soap. Fresh soap may be 'safe', but it is also harsh on the skin.
You said repeatedly that you were going to follow the instructions as if you were a new soap maker which you did and didn't do. You sort of did when you dumped in all the salt and clay since the instructions didn't provide any measurements (as you noted), but at the same time, this kit is supposed to make two batches of soap so you should have only used half. You didn't when you noted that floral fragrances oils tend to accelerate, so you deviated from the instructions and didn't add the FO until after you separated the batter. Had you followed the instructions you would have added it as directed, you would have been plopping that batter into the mold. And you didn't when you turned the soap on its side before you cut it because you know about drag marks.
Now I don't object to soap kits...it's how I got started, but I purchased mine from a reputable soap supplier which is what I recommend. On it's face it not a bad kit...you get everything but Distilled Water, but I think it's a lot of money to spend on something you're not sure that you will enjoy. I personally don't like "blends" as you are stuck with them; you know what oils/butters are in them, but not how much. The 'trinity' isn't bad since you can assume that it is generally 34% Olive Oil, 33% Coconut Oil and 33% Palm Oil. But if a 'blend' contains multi oils and/or butters, you're going to be using a lot of trial and error (and ingredients) trying to replicate it. If you are only a hobbiest...a blend is probably the best way to go, but if you plan to sell soap, it will get really expensive really fact. And I have issues with any company that sells a blend or kit an doesn't have the individual components available.

Well.... I hear all your objections... But, I found the kit really fun and inclusive, and I had a great time using the products.
