I seen Depeche Mode in March of this year. Dave told the crowd ”put your phones down for fxxk sake, watch the show” 👀 They encouraged the crowd to sing along which didn’t disappoint. There also was a 13 year old girl who had a sign that said it was her first concert & her 13 birthday sing to me. So Dave kneeled down and sang to her & gave her a guitar pick. That was really sweet :)
▶For the first time, they had two backing vocalists on stage, Hildia Campbell and Samantha Smith. ▶For the first time, a complete and fit drums was assembled on stage. ▶The most expensive stage in his career, designed by Anton Corbijn, was developed and assembled: 📢Anton: "It was something new for me. I had never designed a stage before. I had no idea of the cost and work involved. You have to project something on the screens and synchronize everything. There are two levels. There is a main level on the screen downstairs, so to speak, which was Dave's stage, the main stage for Dave. There's the top stage, where the synths would be. Martin, Alan and Fletch would be on the top stage. I'd put video screens between the two stages " 📢Alan: "I was very excited to see the production and those screens for the first time. We prepared the tapes for the performance, we rehearsed and it sounded great. I thought: 'This is going to be great.' When the audience arrives and everything goes well, it is a feeling, great, much better than being number one."
I’m so proud that this wonderful band impress new ears even today. They are so wonderful it fills my heart after 35 years of loving them. Keep reacting to the Exciter tour my friend it’s so great to watch
I seriously wait with bated breath for your Depeche reactions because you get so into them! To me Stripped is so meaningful for the 21st century because I interpret it as wanting to interact with someone you care deeply about without all the distractions of technology. “Let me hear you make decisions without your television.” is so meaningful. Martin is saying I want you, only you and not what technology says you should be.
Smartphones are a totally mood killer. I don’t understand people paying a lot of money for the ticket and than filming the whole time and staring on their phones. But DM still do their best and Dave interacts a lot with the audience and achieves a unique atmosphere. The stage design of the devotional tour was impressive for its time with the animated videos filmed by Anton Corbijn. But Dave once said in an interview that he felt alone on stage during the tour. Due to the stage design he was separated from the rest of the band and didn't feel like a band member. Later and todays tours have a different design without the high podiums and DM are interacting more as a band.
It can be stated that Depeche Mode's audience and fans have "matured" over the years. A large part of the fans who were there during this time are still there today. Back then the fans were say 20-25 years old, today they are 50-55 years old. So the fans don't show the same "youthfulness" today as they did back then - even though Depeche has gained new crowds of fans over the years. The average age of the audience is older, and this is of course noticeable in different ways. Dave is still active in his performances, but he is also not unnoticed by the time, so to speak. He naturally has a slightly different approach in his performances. Back then, the performances were very serious and powerful. Dave and the group were cool. Of course, that ambition does not exist today and they act rather in line with their maturity at the age of 60 - even if Dave is still "active" on stage. It is relevant and logical that this time, around the Devotional tour, is considered Depeche Mode's peak.
Devotional war das Nonplusultra!!! ❤ In your room der absolute Höhepunkt!!! Jedenfalls für mich. Ich habe sie in der magischen Gewitternacht in München (FoS 1) gesehen und es war immer noch ein Knaller!!! 2024 Golden Circle in München und ich kann es kaum erwarten!!!
Crowd still interact! However, wayy too many phones. Dave recently said on the show "put your phones down for fuck's sake, enjoy the show!" (he wasn't mad or anything, he didn't say it in a rude way, he just wanted people to enjoy the show!). Apart from that, yeah, crowd still is amazing on the shows!
Our boys have always taken care of us fans... ´Til this day in 2023! They still have very interactive show for us and that's one of the many reasons I love them! :) One p e r f e c t band they are...
The Singles Tour in 1998 also did not have cell phones..and really Exciter did not as well, that tour was 2001 ,people did have phones but it wasnt like today.
Imagine how I feel, I’ve been a fan for over forty years! From New Life! I saw them at the height of their musical powers, this is why The Devotional Tour was so good, every song was fantastic, The World Violation Tour was phenomenal but Devotional took it to another dimension. DM these days play the big stadiums and I saw them in 2018 but I don’t like the live drums (apart from Alan) They are too rocky for me now.
This morning I was listening to this concert in my car while doing some earrings. This concert is in every car of each and every dm fan along with the 101 concert
This song live just sets the ultimate DM mood! The phones have replaced the lighters now but i don't mind wheh they're used to light up the stadium... It is super annoying when someone is on it throughout the whole show! My anticipation for the next one is at an all time high...
Imagine being almost 16 yrs old and you're already a lifelong fan. You're in the second row of MSG, the lights fade to black you hear that synth line and see those words pop up on the screen. Tears of shock and joy immediately began to flow. I never in my life thought I would see them perform this live. One of the best nights and memories of my life! Thanks Seph! The joy we get from watching you react to these videos are the closest we'll ever be to reliving those special moments.
@@jlcmsw it was absolutely life changing getting to see then in MSG and in the 2nd row on top of that! You are right though, 30 years have come and gone way to quick.
Still one of the best, if not the best, stadium performing bands around. They are so comfortable performing to 50,000 - 80,000 fans. Saw them at Twickenham this tour, 80,000 were in raptures.
Still the greatest live band out there, and Dave is a fantastic frontman, the best❤️. Have seen them in Stockholm and Berlin on this tour, are going to Copenhagen 2024 as well. I just cant get enough😉. Of course they are in their 60s now, but they are still a out of the world experience live❤
"Breathing in fumes" reference in this song is the Harley Davidson motor sound that cycles from beginning to end. It is heard all by itself in the very beginning.
Martin also has a deep tone to his voice, which he shows off here; "let me hear you speaking just for me", "let me hear you crying just for me". - Another good example of that is Martin's demo of the song Little15 where his deep tones are prominent. - The album version is sung by Dave. What distinguishes Martin is otherwise his extremely precise and razor-sharp pitch in his singing. Dave's pitch is not as precise but more flattering in nuances.
"I like that mix! Like the "Breathing In Fumes" mix that they done of this is like I love that actually! It's creepy and like "Creep Mode." I love "Creep Mode"! Oh you know so bloody good man!" (5:33) Adding another "Mode" to the list. "Creep Mode!" I love it!
❤I Love It! ❤ I Love that you're just as Excited as I am!!!.... and I've been a MASSIVE fan for 25-yrs this August. I absolutely love this song. My Favorite Depeche Mode song...Never ever gets old ! Lol, in Europe they are performing in Soccer Stadiums!!! Huge crowds show up to see DM! Ticket prices are insane but you got to go see them in January!!!
I´ve commented on it before. SETH: A new fan is born, yeah. About STRIPPED: This song in particular shows the rise and slow fall of Live-Versions quite well (my opinion). Debut 1986 pretty nice. 1987/88 much better (It´s not on 101, only on Bootlegs: The transition from STRIPPED to PIPELINE with the amazing tractor sound from Stripped for the basic beat. Another banger) 1990 another increase. 1993 on top. (15 seconds at the beginning has gotten very grim, thanx to Alan). On Bestof- Tour 1998, with live drums, that was okay, but... something was lost... again.
It's worth mentioning the 'Forced To Mode - Stripped (live @ NCN-Festival 2013) [HD/Multicam]' version too. Great song… At least you already know what song comes next ;) However i don’t really like the screen film for Stripped found the « writing » too disorganized too much layers of texts successivly don’t look great… my opinion ;)

In my opinion, "Let me see you stripped down to the bone" is metaphoric. It means, let me see your TRUE self.
▶For the first time, they had two backing vocalists on stage, Hildia Campbell and Samantha Smith.
