You cant even imagine the ROAR that rang our when that curtain dropped and Dave came out. It was the best experience of my life. I saw them all 5 nights they played the Forum in LA during this tour. Best November EVER!
Not just long hair. The darkest but at the same time the most exciting period of DM has begun. Dave started taking heavy drugs, almost died several times and once really - clinical death. Under the influence, he himself believed that he was a vampire. The prestigious magazine called this tour "The Moust Debauched rock tour ever" This tour lasted more than two years, Fletch ended up on antidepressants, Alan finally left the band...
The best period of Depeche Mode, sadley the darkest as well. Mixed feelings - Dave on drugs (his eyes reveals how high he is on stage) Alan will leave the band after the tour, Andy had a nervous breakdown, Martin was an alcoholic. Two years of touring didn't make it better - Nearly the end of the band

The Devotional Tour was the second time I got to see DM in concert. It was even more epic than the World Violation tour. Glad I was able to see them at their peak.
This is the pinacle of their live touring career. This is DM at their best, with drug fueled Dave, Alan playing live drums, Martin just killing it every night on the guitar. This tour was called one of the most debauched tours in history. Dave almost died, Martin had seizures, Andy had a nervous breakdown and it made Alan quit the band. For the second leg of the tour, called the Exotic Tour, they toned down the set because it was so expensive to drag all over the world.
After the record for the Album, Alan spend 3 month of his time to do some new live versions of the setlist. The rest of the Band was in vacation in this time😎 One of some more reasons to left the band after 2 years live performance of devotional tour. Anyway, listen to World in my eyes, then walking in my shoes, then the new version of behind the wheel and and and… Live version of i feel you was never that good like here… This concert is really like the best they ever did. Imagine, back in the day, you've barely heard anything from DM for three years, and then the first single and video drops...and the frist thing you see is Dave with long hair. Shocked? Hell yeah! This was Dave in his "LA hippy druggy phase." He left England behind, moved to Los Angelas and married an American junky. He also got heavy into the rock scene, seeing bands like Jane's Addiction and Rage Against the Machine, which is partly why SOFAD came out the way it did. But yeah, this tour was their absolute pinnacle. It also barely made any money upfront because it was so expensive to stage, which is another reason they extended it with the Exotic Tour in '94.

Great reaction! Dave Gahan had moved to Los Angeles after the violator album and was very influenced by the LA scene at the time. He got into bands like Janes Addiction and Sound Garden. And the results he grew his hair ,added a lot more tattoos and met his girlfriend and unfortunately got into the drugs.
Dave's new look was introduced in the Devotional videoclips, so it was not too shocking here, but yepp it was shocking in the first released 'I Feel You' video, so you're right
This is Heroin Dave. The first listen & first sight of Dave really scared a lot of fans from this album. Huge change from Violator to a more Rock and Roll vibe. It took me 6 months for this album to grow on me but it is probably the one I listen to the most! Martin's songwriting was at an all time high here. Alan was playing drums. And the entire band was living in excess & falling apart! Alan left after this tour.

Yes, DM on their highest level (I was there in Eastgermany Leipzig 1993. Over 80000 spectators in the stadium! I think the 1988 RoseBowl 101 had similar amount). 13 years straight up with every tour. Everytime/tour a new surprice. (Black celebration -Tour and Violator -Tour are not officell published. Damned!) After 1993/94...30 years slowly down. I saw DM LIVE the last time 2006. It was okay, but.... Something is left, but I´m loving some pearls, since left Alan the Band. By the way... my favorite best Intro is PAINKILLER from 1998 -Tour. And OBERKORN/MY SERCED GARDEN (1982). Sorry, I repeat myself.
"Oh my God " is correct...the memory of this greatest intro to a cincert is SEARED into my brain...went ti see em for first tine in Austin and it was absolutely of the best memories if my life...I doubt that alzheimers would erase this memory😂
Notice how Dave is super thin as well. Beyond the long hair. This was when DM almost broke up as Dave had a little drug issue going on after the massive success of Violator, and the bandmates were rather upset with him (Martin in particular). That's where Songs of Faith and Devotion came from in the first place.
Dave was a junkie at this point.. Martin was hitting the bottle, Fletch was depressed (what tha fuck was he depressed for?? .. He had the best seat in the house and got paid to clap) Alan however (the master mind of sound and production) felt unappreciated... As I said before Martin may have wrote the songs but it was Alan Wilder that breathed LIFE into them
Fletch I believe if memory serves suffered from severe OCD after his sister passing away from cancer...things were pretty rough for him personally ...at the time ...
Depeche Mode could have been something of another order if they had just stuck out 93-95...their musical direction, thanks to Alan, was so interesting and organic and imaginative. We got a GLIMPSE of what they could have been with Ultra, but after that...they were good but not great :/
Mate, he’s got an average baritone voice, listen to John Farnham. I need to add that I am a huge Depeche Mode fan. You don’t have to have the best voice in the world all the best guitarist in the world to write great songs. I’m a singer songwriter and have been for 30 years. I enjoy a great range of music I just thought I would point that out it’s like every time people watch Eddie Van Halen for the first time they think he’s the greatest guitarist that ever lived which is just not true.
Bob Dylan and buddy holly both had nearly monotone 1 octave voices. But they had the songs to go with their distinctive voices which made them super famous and adored the world over! Then you have Singers who have AMAZING vocal ranges 4+ octave's who you have never heard of. Technically these singers have far far faaaar better voices and much more impressive then Bob and Buddy, But they lack "SOMETHING" That "SOMETHING" is what Dave has. Without that he wouldnt have been known either
What an intro ! Absolutely amazing, eargasm. All hail to Alan Wilder !

The Intro is a part from " Live is too short - mix" of I FEEL YOU - 12"! Maybe from the L-Bong Edition. I´m pretty sure about it.
Yes, it obviously is@@BigALquitti- hear it now!
"Oh my God " is correct...the memory of this greatest intro to a cincert is SEARED into my brain...went ti see em for first tine in Austin and it was absolutely of the best memories if my life...I doubt that alzheimers would erase this memory😂
Soooo jealous of you! Luckyyyyy! ❤️
As I said before Martin may have wrote the songs but it was Alan Wilder that breathed LIFE into them
Yeah i think you have hit the nail on the head haha
Fletch I believe if memory serves suffered from severe OCD after his sister passing away from cancer...things were pretty rough for him personally ...at the time ...
I know this is really off topic, but I would love to see you do some kind of a gameplay video, like Minecraft for example, it might be funny
I could try a MC video for fun 🤣
Technically these singers have far far faaaar better voices and much more impressive then Bob and Buddy, But they lack "SOMETHING"
That "SOMETHING" is what Dave has. Without that he wouldnt have been known either
@@SephPlays - Satanic societies made all famous “STARS”
Calm down :) It's the first song of the show.
No dont calm down!!!😆
