Im probably gonna go to UBC because i live somewhere (i wont specify for privacy) in Fraser Valley but i want to live in a dorm. But since i live just like a city away, my parents will probably force me to stay with them lol :') P.s. idk why i like watching these videos even though im only in grade 7 lol
How's ubc reputation all over the world? What are the major recruiting companies for CS? And what course you did there? Apart from this very nice video, I was wandering about the accommodation, it helped me to know deep. Thanks to you!
hey girlll i’m from the us and am thinking about applying to ubc but I was just wondering if there’s a big party scene there? i know canadian universities aren’t that into partying like in the us but just wondering!!
alli nicole It’s okay here, it’s more up to you. There’s a lot of frat parties going on and clubbing downtown Vancouver but if you’re not into that, you can defiantly stay away from that! 😊
I’m 13 and I decided I wanted to go to ubc when I was 11 haha I’m still really hoping I get in bc my grandparents live on vci so I can go there in the summer and idk but yea
really helpful video! i was wondering, do the dorms come with any lamps? and do they come with a mirror? or will we have to get both ourselves? Thank you!
Would you say that sometimes it was inconvenient for you because of the communal washrooms? It’s usually really busy in the morning right? How do you cope with times of inconvenience?
I actually never thought that! I made so many memories in the washroom getting ready with people haha. It was never busy in the morning because everyone starts class at a different time and that applies for showering too - I never had to wait for a shower! Truthfully, I really enjoyed my first year residence and didn’t mind communal washrooms:)
Itsyvn thanks for replying! I actually got an offer from UBC and I’m just wondering how the communal washrooms are...how about when there’s like an emergency (like the worst of them all..period stains)? 😖
Chloe Yang haha based off of my experience, I got to know my floor pretty well that even if an emergency happened, I wouldn’t be too embarrassed!😅 With all this being said tho, I really lucked out getting a brand new building and really good floor mates for my first year so I’m just speaking on my experience:) Regardless, I do believe that being on residence in your first year is a huge part in making memories and friends!
Itsyvn thanks so much for replying. Last question lol (sorry if I’m bothering you) because of the buildings being far from each other and there’s only 10 minutes between classes, do you have a bike or car or something because I heard on other videos of UBC Vancouver that it takes quite a bit to walk to your next class.
Chloe Yang not at all, don’t worry:) I had a class first year that was on the opposite side of campus and if I speed walk it was like 15 mins? A lot of the time, people are always scrambling in late so it’s all good!! :) (I don’t think people usually drive to get to classes but I do see a lot of bikers!)
jtcber Not in this building, no. The food is in the commons block which is like a 2 min walk away (I toured it in the video!)🙂 & I drink the apple cider vinegar!
How different are the costs of attending UBC versus an in province university (I’m from the GTA and my other choice is UOttawa)? My family is concerned about the big transition and factor of flights and high costs associated with Vancouver in general. Is it easy to get a job on campus for first years?
I have been accepted for UBC 2021 winter session. Is Totem park, Place Vanier (basically the residences that have a shared accommodation) a year residence? Can I live there (if accepted) for a full year?
Sun Shine It differs by which residence and room type you’re staying in! The costs also differ by program so you can defiantly look it up based on what your in :)
I'm only in highschool but my wish is to get accepted at ubc for the class of 2021 (I would be entering as an international student). Though, I have no idea on what to study, any suggestions?! I know people tell me that I should study what I want to, but I dont know what, so if anyone know of a good thing to study at ubc, please let me know
Hi just curious, are there specific dorms for first years, second years etc? Do we get to choose and if a friend and I are applying and want to live together would that be possible.
Shania Joy yeah the first year dorm areas are orchard commons, totem park, and place vanier. You can request to live with a friend but it’s not a 100% guarantee. I.e my friends wanted to live in orchard together (separate rooms, shared washroom) but ended up getting a place in totem park with separate rooms (communal washroom) but they were right next to each other!
Hi Yvonne, I was just wondering how many ppl usually share a communal bathroom? And how many ppl share a private bathroom? Also how many rooms on average are there on each floor? Thank you so much - I have tried to find this info on the UBC website but I couldn’t find it :, )
Elizabeth A umm based on my experience at this totem building - I think I was sharing with over 15 residents (and there were twice that amount on my whole floor). There are no private bathrooms for any first year residences but the closest one would be a shared (between u and ur roommate) in orchard! :)
Itsyvn wow thank you sm for the fast reply🤗🤗 ohh ok that clears up a lot!! One more question sorry, about the private washroom the one that had the door taken off ahahah can anyone on the floor access that bathroom or is it only shared with a certain group of ppl? Thanks again all this is so helpful : ))
Elizabeth A no worries! OH I see what you mean by the private washroom. Okay, hmm idk if they have that available all the time. I know that on my entire floor, only my side of the floor had it and we could have access to it but I’m sure it was prioritized for people with accessibility needs!
So, I wouldn’t take that private washroom into consideration if you’re thinking about residence choices. If you’re looking for a smaller group of people to share with, I’d definitely recommend orchard commons - since you only share between you and your roommate!😊
Im moving in in like a couple of weeks.. i was just wondering how you hung up your lights above the bed? Tryna do some do some shopping but i have no idea how to hang stuff up on the walls other than using command strips and tape or whatever... thank you for the room tour!!
Hii! I think you might be looking at upper year housing! How it works it there’s first year housing & upper year housing. • first year housing is for first years (totem park, orchard commons and place vanier - you can search those up!😊) • upper year housing is for second year students and up (I think that’s why you saw the age requirement here). First year housing is guaranteed for first year students I believe, while you have to apply for upper year residence. After first year, some people like to live on campus but some still wanna stay on campus (like me haha). This video is of Totem Park (my first year residence) and I’m currently living in an upper year residence (Exchange Residence) - you can check out the tour here if you’d like, this is just one of many residences/room types: ruclips.net/video/wYW_9kkCLaA/видео.html

Thank you so much and yes I can/will!🥰 thanks for watching!!!
Is there a cafe in the building? The other Totem Park has The Feast.
BWT, there is a bottle of apple cider vinegar on the top. What do you use it for?
jtcber Not in this building, no. The food is in the commons block which is like a 2 min walk away (I toured it in the video!)🙂 & I drink the apple cider vinegar!
Odd question for you: is the shower water warm? Are there times that it runs out of warm water?
haha it’s warm & I never experienced it running out of hot water☺️
Awesome video it looks so nice there!! I wanted to ask you how likely is it to get a single room at UBC? I'm trying to decide between UofT and UBC!!
Girl, I just watched all your videos and you are so cute and inspiring~plus your wreck beach video is really making me want to go to UBC!!
Shawna Thank you!! My first choice was a single! UBC does try their best to accommodate judging from my friends too!!
Yvonne with the helpful advice
80% of ubc's dorms are single rooms, two single rooms share a bathroom in some cases, also first years are guaranteed a room
Shawna same I've been on those two schools since😅
It's my dream to study in university of toronto, UBC , McGill or u of Calgary 😍😍
Wishing you all the best!!🙏
Students must have? Thanks for the video!!
Thanks for this video! I got assigned to CSNM as well for fall 2018 and I was wondering if it is more expensive than the other buildings?

@@Itsyvn are these available for Graduate students'?

hey yvonne I hope you answer this is it ok to smoke in your singl room or doesn the fire alarms go off ?
oliverkaan! I don’t smoke so I don’t know, sorry!:( Probably best to do it outside though, in case:)
thats it im aplying for totem park XD
Hey thanks for the great video :) I was wondering about the approximate fee you have to pay for the dorm room and for studying at ubc
Sun Shine It differs by which residence and room type you’re staying in! The costs also differ by program so you can defiantly look it up based on what your in :)
Do you guys not have your own kitchen with a stove or oven? Do you only have a microwave or the food court??
Pelin Tezcan Unfortunarly not! We don’t have access to a stove or oven but there is a microwave!! And the commons block serves food :)
Hoping to study in ubc in 3 years!
love this! good luck, you got it!!☺️

hey , hows life there? where u from?
looking into some uni to continue studies
hi! are all dorms singles or do you have the option to have live with someone else?
Samhita Shanker there are doubles! & you can request your roommate😊
How much is the fee?? Or does it like depend on what building you stay? I mean like 1 room for 1 person
It depends on the building type! There are single and shared units and also single units with a shared washroom! Hope that makes sense :)
@@Itsyvn do you perhaps know how much the simple unit with private shared bathroom is?
Hi just curious, are there specific dorms for first years, second years etc? Do we get to choose and if a friend and I are applying and want to live together would that be possible.

is your room a nano suite, single traditional room, single connected or one bedroom suite
Wendy B. This was my dorm in first year and it was a single in totem!

Wendy B. After I got in! You can select your preference and then they try to accommodate
Itsyvn did you select a Year Round or Winter session or Summer session
I've been trying to figure out which is the Fall semester, but I don't know
Is it hard to be accepted there??
I saw on the website I have to be 19 for campus housing- is that true? I'm graduating at 17 so is there any chance for me to get in on-campus housing
Hii! I think you might be looking at upper year housing! How it works it there’s first year housing & upper year housing.
• first year housing is for first years (totem park, orchard commons and place vanier - you can search those up!😊)
• upper year housing is for second year students and up (I think that’s why you saw the age requirement here).
