I drove past this house and noticed that the grass was almost completely covering the sidewalks and the curbs. So I decided to knock on the door and offer to take care of it for FREE! The homeowner declined and said that he already pays someone to take care of his lawn. I offered to do it one time and pay the homeowner $100. He said it was the weirdest thing he's ever heard but ended up letting me do the job.
I decided to go the extra mile and pay to do this job so that I could clean these sidewalks and curbs up for the community. It really improves the drainage for the whole street corner and makes the neighborhood look better overall. But, the most important part is that this work makes the sidewalk more accessible for neighbors to take walks on and for people that may need to use the ramps.

I'm guessing he just embarrassed that someone called him out on the state of his lawn and didn't want to admit that he hasn't been taking care of it. Either that or he thought Spencer was trying to solicit regular work for pay and he couldn't afford it.

"Oh I already have someone who does that" "No its okay, thank you anyway". That sort of stuff. You can back this up by his reaction at the end when he doesnt wanna take the money for it.

I fail to see how you can say,"the house looked so run down". The house looks freshly painted and the roof looks new. If this is what you call run down, I would hate to see what you would call some of the properties that I've seen having their yards restored.

This was the best yard makeover I have ever seen. Spencer, paid the man living in the home a hundred dollars to do his yard. Plus, Spencer did a wonderful job on the lawn. After paying the owner a hundred dollars of his own money. To make the neighborhood look better. Spencer love what he does. Keep up the excellent work Spencer. I have not heard or seen another lawn service ever paying a owner to clean their yard. I am not not saying he's the first to do this or not. I'm saying, this is my first time ever seeing the gratitude of a lawn company service, a yard with their time and paying money out of their pocket.

It's obvious whoever does his lawn does a crappy job! They neglect the edges. (If that is indeed true) You, however always do amazing job on the edging. You are probably one of the best on RUclips with edging. The whole step by step process you do results in pristine, crisp lines! Another incredible one done and another person blessed by your hardworking and kindness!

That was just simply incredible!! What a difference. When you have a corner lot, it makes the entire neighborhood look great, just seeing those nice clean sidewalks and crisp edging. This was a great, great video. I'm sure the homeowner was in disbelief when he came outside and looked around, and I'm sure the whole neighborhood is happy with that transformation. Wow !! Cleaning up the tree trunks was above and beyond and really completed the look of this whole job.

Great job Spencer! The homeowner may have had a guy who mowed but “the guy” certainly didn’t know how to edge! 😮
Or they might not have owned an edging tool. And pushing a mower and scraping the concrete with a spade are very different activities, especially if you have back trouble.
Am I the only one who saw how much the light changed between the before and after photos? This job literally took all day! Great work.. the time and effort you put in definitely shows. That is the #1 reason you will get more word-of-mouth referrals and return business. (Oh, you're lawn looks FANTASTIC! how'd you do it?... I didn't, but here's the cats of the guy who did do it!)

As the parent of a now 37 year old handicapped son, THANK YOU!!! We like to take walks and go on outings as a family. The sidewalks being clear and clean are a huge safety plus for him. We can walk and talk without every other step being a constant reminder to him to be careful and watch his step. So, thank you is the very least we can say for the hard work you put in to insure safe walkways for those that have trouble walking or are not ambulatory at all. Bless you! ❤

This yard, driveway and sidewalk looks 100% better! This is challenging labor for so many hours in the dust, dirt and difficult weather conditions, at times. I am sure the guy was looking out his windows and saying, "What the...?" This is a work of outdoor art.

When people mow, they don't consider where the discharged clippings go (or don't care) but it's easy to remedy...mow two passes on the outside while discharging into the yard. Plus for those of us who ride, we should be mindful of the roads we travel on...JMHO!

This homeowner was luckier than he deserved. Truth and honesty is very important. He did not appear truthful when he said his lawn was being cared for.
You did great work and are a man of your word. You gave him the money as promised. IMHO, he didn't deserve your efforts or the money. I admit I'm being judgmental, but I wouldn't like being dismissed with 'tall tales.'
Maybe the homeowner was skeptical. The world has changed and it is not the same as it used to be. I would have said the same if a random person showed up to my door.

I am interested that you picked cleaning the approaches to the house to do first. The street gutters, the edging, the backlogged dirt...when removed began to leave some hope of renewal. 6:52. At 10:54, I thought, "Isn't that pretty!". You had just finished edging the parking and were blowing it off. The house now is starting to look sharp. This kind of work has so many rewards to it! 22:49 Smiled after your long work with street gutter and edging on the one side and how nice it looked again as you blew it off. This isn't even mowed yet and it looks 100% better to all that see it. Good job trimming the tree bits. Great before and after photos. Excellent results.

A lot of people just mow and call it good. Your work goes to show how much of a difference edging the curbs/sidewalks/driveway really put that extra touch on enhancing a properties curb appeal. Awesome job Spencer. Love your vids.
So how often does the guy who normally does the yard come around? The beginning of spring and end of fall? 😁
The strategy is amazing. He uses the mower to chop up and distribute all the material from the overgrowth and blows it towards the middle of the yard, then spreads it evenly throughout the yard, and the vibration of the mower also works it down into the soil providing fertilizer and mulch. It just disappears. He goes over it several times and lays down a nice pattern for the observer to enjoy. Overall it is very pleasing to watch.
Great video. i like the idea of offering them some extra. You should try to get more of an interaction with the home owner. take them on a little walk around afterwards to see thier reaction to your great work.
Just get a 20 inch mower with a bag. Set it to the lowest setting and collect the debris from the edging. It will pick up more than half. Even if you have to limit the collection to 1 trash can full. It's faster, Less dust in the wind. Neater lawn.
Also sometimes, I sharpen my shovel edge on the grinder

Homeowner seen the work and had second thoughts about taking the money and even refused but this man from sb lawn service insisted he take the money, I do hope this Homeowner will spread the good deed by word of mouth and go to sb lawn service for future lawn care as long as prices are reasonable.

I am truly sorry to hear that your son has forgotten how important family is at the moment. I am having the same issue with my oldest. I would have done anything for my Mom and I did so until she passed this last November. I miss her so much and I think about my son and I just shake my head. I am sorry about your son. My own mother passed away in Aug. of 2011 and anytime she needed anything I was there for her as was my sister. It's a shame that you are having the same issues with your son as I am with mine. One of these days they will regret all the time they wasted, not spending it with their family. All too often, though, it's too late and the chance to make things right has long since passed 😢

You are too kind. Your reply made me tear up. The truth is I often blame myself where my son is concerned. I wonder what I could have done differently or if I deserve to be treated this way. I have four children. All adults now. Three of them are close to me and their Dad and we help each other whenever needed. We spend holidays and birthdays together. We celebrate accomplishments and support each other when there is heartache.
Our oldest son got married and his wife does not like us. We live far from them too which makes it even harder. I have tried everything I know how to do but to no avail. I fear we have lost him for good. I pray everyday that he will come to his senses and behave like one of the family again.
I don’t think I could ever have believed this is what would happen when he grew up.

You do know that this guy is probably getting paid more than a person who has a company of men that do this for him right? And I say paid because of the thousands and thousands of people who watch his videos and perhaps have 30% of them who give $5 ends up making him thousands and thousands a month. To why every video asks for handout. It then being a "non profit" organization so he doesn't even pay taxes for all the money he gets.
Plus the money youtube give him with all the commericals his Long videos make him. Plus the sponsors that provide him with free stuff

There are many senior citizens in need but society, and even their own family, have forgotten them, probably hoping they hurry up and die so they won't be a bother. My hometown (the town I live in) is littered with disrespectful young people who could care less about their elders. Most of them are drug addicts, cigarette & cell phone junkies, all tattooed and pierced up acting all bad-ass and OG. They would just as soon rob an elder than go up to them and ask if there's anything they can do to help them. This world needs more people like Spencer. I wish we had several of him around here!

@@maiamitt am so sorry that you have lung cancer. My twin brother passed away from stage four lung cancer in 2011. He was 52 years old. Cancer called non small cell cancer that most aggressive !! Send my thoughts and stay strong for ya !

@@maiamitt yea. I wish that medicine was invent in 2011 but not. He was told by dr that he has 3 to 6 months to live but he gone 34 days.
I saw on tv talk about non small cell that has medicine for it to stay live more long. I said myself. Dang it. Wish he still here. 😮💨
I know. I’m sorry. I was given 6 months last November but my oncologist sent my blood sample off to One Foundation and they analyzed my DNA alleles and came up with Tagrisso for me. It can extend life a bit more than 3 years.
