Remember that 1kg of Ptarmigan meat made into Broth costs 1.5 L of water (salt is negligible as long as you have it), which if you are low on water/fuel/time, then it may not be worth it. It is basically 1.5 L of water made into 300 kcal.
general food scarsity situation Zak: has a fresh dead wolf with good few kgs of meat on it, safe enviroment of an indoor cave, fire supplies and plenty of time (blizard going on outside) also Zak: 'I think we don't really need it right now', passes time and barely makes it on emergency cattails instead brilliant 🤣🤣
Zak, Not sure if you were aware, but you can (unless recently patched out) create the ptarmigan down bedroll with a ruined bedroll. It can often be a better alternative than the risk of failing an attempted repair of an existing one. Once again, great episode!
49:10 Past Zack provided for all of what you left for future Zack, it's finally paid off ! I finally did the trip to FA in my interloper run, that was quite an expedition, took me 4 days. I'm starting to lack food, I think I will go for these cattails you mentioned.
24:10 Ik saving resources generally is a good thing, but I don't see the point of avoiding bandaging sprained ankles/wrists. One bandage is 1/2 of a cloth, in an entire run of 500 days, even 1000 days or more, how likely is it you are actually going to run out of cloth. There is so much of it: loot + curtains and such in buildings + clothing you can tear up, and not to mention it is a renewable resource with beachcombing in mind. The risk a sprained/wrist gives versus how much you save on not healing it (1/2 cloth) makes it just not seem worth the risk. With a sprained ankle you cannot run in an emergency, with a sprained wrist you cannot use your bow/rifle in an emergency. That's a pretty massive disadvantage. Not to be mean, but I think what happened here is a prime example of why you should always heal sprains unless you are absolutely certain you can avoid doing so, but even then those situations are rare, if you are outside, there is always a risk of an emergency appearing. There are valid reasons as to not heal a sprain, if you are close to a safe location and you have minimal resources currently. In the late game tho, with proper planning and having regional bases here and there, it is much less of an issue. Either way, I enjoy all of the action thrilled episodes so far, but will be nice to see you get back to Trappers as well. As a viewer I also get home sick, going to be cozy gearing up for the eventual return to Sundered Pass. Keep up the good work!
Speaking as an Englishman, your grasp of this language, that is not your native tongue is edifying. I have a reasonable command of the English language, but I think your repertoire of words exceeds my own! Coupled with your humility and sunny disposition makes for soul satisfying viewing. To be commended. Also, I enjoyed you going round in circles in that cave immensely!! The Circle of Zack 😂
@ you’re very welcome, my friend! Binged watch your series over the last two weeks. We have twins just over a year old so I feel your pain and joy. Thank you so much.
ZOC isn't so bad if you mostly stick to the west side and outside edges. I'm based in smokers cave and enjoying it atm. A bear once in a while, deer, rabbits and ptarmigan. I went back to Transfer Pass to pick up salt and flour and now the food stretches well in stew form just before bed.
Was playing last night in Sundered Pass by the formans cabin and I spooked a doe. She ran past me, up the stairs and vanished seemingly though the front door, I went and checked and she wasn’t in the cabin. It was really funny to watch, wish i could’ve recorded that.
Never knew that animal hide clothing - boots, pants, mittens - had a basic maximum repair of about 30% (modified by mending skill). I know that the bearskin bedroll has a base of 50% but I never imagined that the clothing would be at the 30% range. I never actually let that kind of clothing get that low and I have so many hides that I can waste them but then I am in Pilgrim.
I've been in and out of FA ever since it dropped, and the whole time I've been thinking the workbench in the basement is useless because it's always dark down there. smdh
X spray Can to mark the place where you reach close death? So you should always carry a spray Can, to do this challenge 😅 it's a good little inventory management challenge for a veteran player like you.
21:03 "It's terrible here, everything's worse than anywhere else... love it though." spoken like a true Interloper veteran
1kg of Ptarmigan gives you 550kcal and 1kg of Ptarmigan made to broth gives you 850kg of kcal. It’s totally worth to make broth out of ptarmigans

@@thefireman3476 It doesn't smell, though! Once cattails run low, I often make a jug of Broth to carry around with me as emergency food.
@@bombidil3 Good point! That certainly gives it some extra benefit!
A little bit of action and a little bit of a podcast my favorite type😁

that shadow of Mazey was epic (25:19) .. and spooky .. shows the quality of the game, really ..
What a lovely episode. And the shadow of Mazey - it’s really why this game is so damn good.

1:03:00 this is a ptarmigan nest, that was before they added map symbols for it
The sound @6:28 is Discord's Halloween notification sound, lol. It creeped me out so bad when I first heard it in my chats.
I like calling this wolf Mini, short for Minitar the gaurdian of the Maze.
You can repair a ruined bedroll by turning it into an improvised down bedroll.
What, really? I never knew that!
This i gotta try@@stilllookingfortreasure

Congrats!
@Elentia, if you read this, please give Zak a jerry can for the next birthday 🙃
I showed her this comment and she laughed xD
Nice video👍🏾

Okay, nice quite peaceful video this time. I see the thumbnail, so probably at least a little excitement. Play on, oh Fearless One!
1:03:00 because there are ptamrigans and you used to mark this
33:33 I now have the “Dumb Ways to Die” song in my head 😂 ruclips.net/video/IJNR2EpS0jw/видео.htmlsi=vdcAaR8Kf25Vln9V

How does Mazey attacked after getting wounded? This isn’t normal behavior isn’t it?
They attack normally. Its just an indication of being wounded.
usually an injured wolf from an attack will run away and not be a problem yes, but in a cave it has no where to run so it's forced back into conflict
It would be cool if there were more stuff found in crates

32:17 Point of interest, would this be the evolutionary advantage of anxiety, that it prevents complacency?
Not anxiety per se, but fear is a mechanism in place to ensure survival.
Sounds like a lose USB peripheral disconnecting. Hard for me to hear, but it sounded similar to the windows hardware disconnection sound.
41:19 did you regret not harvesting the wolf in this moment?
Hey Zack, big fan, just commenting to tell you I think you left your bedroll in the cave….
I heard the cave wolf name before I read it, and thought it was “Maisey”, which is a female name and cutely punny.
Maaaaaaaaisy…. OW
comment for the algorithm
🙂
Why are you hanging on to the can openers?
Early gang here
Oh never mind I think you picked it up. Oops.
Did you have snow pants on the ground in the clothes pile? If so I would swap out he minors pants if that's what it was.
Snow pants dont exist on loper
@@Zaknafein That makes sense, it did look like a pair of paints but it also could be another shirt.
I'm a bit late to road to 500 days 😅
I've recently started playing TLD on interloper, and I'm at day 53 and really struggling with the cold weather.
