Joe, my friend from Ohio 😁big greetings to you from Russia 👋I want to wish you a Happy New Year, I wish you and your business prosperity in the new year, happiness, health and well-being.
A lot of good discussion here and many more good points to ponder. One of the issues about getting a real big operation going is the “law of diminishing returns”. There is a sweet spot where the operation is at a good production level with low overhead. When it begins to grow to the point where there is too much going on and many more things to worry about then it can get way more expensive and complicated to run the operation and most likely the customer service end of it also suffers. I know of an operation like that. Keep up the good work Joe and we look forward to many more videos and podcasts in 2024!
Happy New Year Joe! I hope 2024 brings you all Happiness, Growth, and well being. If you do another open house we will be sure to make it up this year.Take care buddy!
Hey Joe, For your dump trailer pitting from rocks, I used Herculiner Bed Liner Kit. It is a roll on bed liner. Works really well and will only take about 90 minutes. Check it out, It was the right decision for our trailer.
Hope your new year is better than the old year. Your trailer should have a valve to lower your bed without power. Just a little knob that you turn to open the return line. Just remember to close it or next time you go to raise it you will think something is broken.
Joe, my old Welsh granny used to be great with home remedies, had a cure for anything right out of the garden. She would have added your videos to the mix, best way to start the day if you need a pick me up! Thank you mate, and happy new year from HB NZ
Congratulations on a great year and I wish you continued success and enjoyment in 2024! I love the fact that you are enjoying what you’re doing with the business and doing things your way.
Hi Joe...another great video, love your humour. A couple of aluminium treadplate strips rivited to the front of your trailer would protect where the back wheels throw up the stones. Aluminium won't rust and it won't look unusuaql because the mud guards (fenders) are made of the same thing...just a thought. Happy New Year to you all over there, thanks for all your efforts, they are appreciated, Joe.
I think you hit the nail on the head with the smaller split firewood. I’ve seen this change over the last 2-3 years here in maine. Good luck in the upcoming year!
Happy new year Joe. For starters. I do hope you do have an open house. Considering i would like to go. Also you speak of the more efficient wood stoves. According to the EPA for a woof stove to be efficient. It needs to be at 75 percent or more. The reason i know this is becuase a bought 1 a couple of years ago and paid $5,000.00 with it in stalled. On the same token I recouped some of that on my taxes at the end of the year when I did my taxes. Being at 84% efficient. Also, the stove baught will take a 20 inch stick all day long.
First off, Happy New Year! Per usual, you make a ton of great points, Joe. I couldn't agree more on your competition take. More often than not it's counter productive, especially when money gets involved. People change fast that you thought could be trusted. I do believe firewood will really pick up in demand soon. If I were you I would promote the woodstove tax credit on your website because it's not being put out there by states or government agencies much at all. It's 30%, so that's a big deal. Also, I totally agree that 12 inch wood will become more popular and either manufacturers need to do what you said machine wise or you can produce it and have to charge more for it. I also will add to continue to do what you already do and appreciate all your customers. The difference between NE ohio and NW ohio where I am, seems stark. People here(right now) want firewood for practically nothing. So be so glad what you have earned. Not having to be employed is even better than you remember. It's sooo bad in the workforce now, trust me. Lastly, stay healthy buddy. If you don't do what's in your control to stay healthy, life will change quickly. I've had odd ball stuff over the years and now it's come down to can I keep my house this year. I can confirm if I had a hospital stay or major surgery, I'd have almost nothing. That's paying 20% through work insurance. Trips are great, and the business helps you do it, but always save where possible. All the best in 2024, Joe. I'm sure plenty of good things are still coming!
Another enjoyable video! I have been watching your videos from day one, and my first thought was, man this guy is nuts 😊. I still believe that, but only in a complementary way……… watching you develop your plan, and absolutely 100% sticking to it, is commendable. From dealing with all the mud, stenciling your kindling bags, too the Firewood supply shortage, you have adapted and progressed and grew into a very very deliberate, respectable business. I have tried to model my very small value added Firewood business after your business model. I’m getting a slow start but it’s working, and that’s thanks to you. Keep up the absolute fantastic work. I wish nothing but the best for you all throughout the new year. Thanks. Jack…..RTB Firewood
Happy New Year, Joe. 2024 seemed so far away and impossible to get to when I was 10 years old in 1954! The decades have flown by very rapidly. Keep putting out some of the best firewood videos on youtube.
Iv seen them they have a tarp set up like you have on your truck for the trailers to pull the load out. Far as rock chips just spray the problem areas with bed liner plus next time you replace or get another trailer get one that's been hot galvanized. Check your pump in the tongue box there should be a bleeder valve on it to let your bed down manually under its own weight.
Just subscribed. Love your videos and your sense of humor. Came for the tractor video, stayed for the rest. How about a bed liner coating for the front of that trailer. Some of the newer coatings are highly chip resistant. Just a thought.
Since you have had a good year, you should take the employees out for a nice dinner at one of your customers restaurants. Oh, and since you met your goal, maybe give yourself a raise, or at least a bonus... Happy New Year Joe!
I'm looking forward to 2024 I had a great year in 23. You moving into the wood yard was huge and only going to get better. I was able to get into a building for my business, not firewood, and I'm in a great position. I see so much opportunity and potential all around me. Looking forward to the possibility of another Open House.
Happy New Year to you at Ohio woodburner. And thank you for sharing party your life with us. There's a lot of times that I watch your video. And it does Cheers me up. So thank you, and have a great New Year. And can't wait to see what you have in store for us as your viewers and friends. God bless Bye
Joe, I've been thinking. Yes, I know it is a dangerous thing for me to do. How about inatallijg a set of snowplow corner markers on your trailer doors, the kimd of plows used on pickup trucks, to know when your doors open? Might look silly, but you'll see it immediately if watching your mirrors.
That could work but in my case I knew the doors were open when both lanes of the highway were closed and all my load was spread out like road salt! LOL. Thanks for the support this year Doc. Happy New Year!
I’d just like to say, “Ha ha ha, you crack me up.” I got all ready for a serious OWB update and you kept firing in these humorous bits right from the get go! (lyrics, puns, Joe jokes etc) Oh man. Elaine from Canada here, I’m glad you’re still enjoying the business, the podcast and putting content out Joe. And thanks to Emily and others for participating too. Happy New Year and wish you and yours the absolute best in 2024.. looking back on just 365 days, its pretty cool what you've done in such a short time.. PS... weren't we supposed to do a T-Shirt swap a few years ago??
haha. You are probably right. I can't keep most things straight or current. If I owe you something send me an email I will make good buddy. Happy New Year!
My only goal is to say alive and moving. More logs may equal lower weight gains!!🤣 Man has burned firewood since before any recorded history. Jibber Jabber requires work in snow. 🤣 Got a new back so I believe 2024 will be awesome! Happy New Year!
Great videos in 2023 Joe, I watched each and every one of them. The future looks good for you. With out growth there’s death in biz it’s been said. I agree. Grow the bank account so when there’s an unexpected breakdown and you need a new (what ever it is) you can just replace it. Growth can be just a higher bank balance. Growth doesn’t have to be more cords per year or production. Growth is often confused with “more output or production”. It can just be more savings-self insurance. I’m a lifelong biz man your age. You’re doing fine. Happy new year 🎉

Get the front of your trailer sprayed with bedliner material
It works for the stone chips
Buy some cans of Krown undercoating undercoating
Good to know Jimmy. Thanks for the heads up. Happy new year sir!

Go to a place that does the sprayed bedliner stuff for trucks to have the front of your trailer coated in it. That's my suggestion.
That's good to know. Thanks Doc
Hey Joe, For your dump trailer pitting from rocks, I used Herculiner Bed Liner Kit. It is a roll on bed liner. Works really well and will only take about 90 minutes. Check it out, It was the right decision for our trailer.
i like your trailer unloading method.
It would be better if I had free labor to do the unloading for me but this will have to do for now Peanut! LOl Happy New Year!
Hope your new year is better than the old year. Your trailer should have a valve to lower your bed without power. Just a little knob that you turn to open the return line. Just remember to close it or next time you go to raise it you will think something is broken.
