    Ed using his signature musicman and this gear is probably my favourite tone and I love early VH but For Unlawful and Balance had a fantastic big and full sound that nobody else could achieve. RIP Ed 👑

      On f.u.c.k he used his soldanos. Did he use them on balance as well? Im guessing he used his peavey signatures.

      If my memory serves me well he used the OG 5150 and his trusty old Plexi on Balance. I have the Guitar World magazine somewhere where he went through the gear he used on that album.
      On ’The Dream Is Over’ he used the prototype of the 5150. Again from Guitar World’s interview around the time F.U.C.K. came out.

      @@EugeValovirta230V Awesome! Thanks a lot for the info. Just watched an interview of Mike Soldano in which he tells the story of EVH calling him and buying 3 of his SLO's. Mike then also retubed his original Plexi. Eddie was obviously always on the hunt for new stuff.

    I was lucky enough to see the Balance tour. It was fucking phenomenal. Sound across the board was pure perfection. Whatever was going on behind the scenes sure didn't translate to the stage. When they played Feelin, holy shit. EVH at his absolute most insane live playing. The KING, for damn good reason.

    So called "Purists" hates me for it but Balance and F.U.C.K are my favourite VH albums. It's something with the song writing that just feels deep and comple on those albums. And the tone is Fat with a lot of string.

    Harmonizer makes perfect sense for a one guitar band without doubled guitar parts. Especially thinking about how the first VH songs had the guitar panned to just one speaker.
    I usually prefer raw, unprocessed guitar tones, but always liked the Balance tone. You really nailed it!
    Amsterdam is actually one of my favorite Eddie guitar parts-- super catchy. Just wasn't a fan of Sammy's "Wham Bam" lyrics.

  • @Flintbox

    Hey Euge. Always love your vids. Think it might have been one of your previous EVH ones where I saw this but didn't Eddie often use a micropitch pedal around this time? I always loved the F.U.C.K. and Balance tone but couldn't figure out what the missing ingredient was. When I saw the micropitch being used, it all fell into place. Maybe all in one micropitch pedals didn't exist at this time and modern ones are just a simpler way to get the same effect Eddie did using the eventide harmoniser? Or maybe he did use one and told the interviewer something else! Wouldn't be the first time Eddie mislead people on what he uses 😉

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  2 года назад +2

      Thanks!
      I don’t think micropitch pedals existed back in those days 😎. Eventide was / and still kinda is the way to go. But obviously you can achieve similar results with other things as well. I mean the only thing it needs to do well is to change the pitch just a few cents. IMO Eventide does it the best. They pretty much invented the whole thing - or at least were the first company to put out one in the 70s = the OG harmonizer, which actually didn’t perform that well but the H949 works like a charm. Probably that’s why Ed started to use that and switched to H3000 when Eventide released that in the late 80s if I remember correct.

    Killer song! You nailed that tone. Interesting how you achieved it. It does sound to me like there is a chorus pedal on it. Of course, the Flanger is obvious, but also sounds really good. A subtle harmonizer and phaser can also sound like a chorus to me.

      @@EugeValovirta230V We're very close to the same age, Euge.... Did you ever think that when you decided to play guitar for a living, that one day, you'd be paying your bills by plugging your guitar into a computer (that's plugged into another computer), then talking into a camera (that's more of a computer) that's also hooked into your computer, then sending it via some freak-technology called the internet connected to your computer...to someone else who's doing the *exact same thing* on their end who's located 4K miles away??? I'll be the first one to admit that when I started playing it was for hot women, and a bar tab. Looking back, that actually seems admirable in many ways to what we have going on today. But I digress..... Carry on, sir! 🤘

    So my question is, did Eddie use pitch up on one amp and pitch down on the other with his straight signal running up the middle? I'm getting mixed answers on this and I found an affordable way to do it but if he ran pitch up and pitch down I need to get 2 of the same pedal to run it to 2 amps with one in the middle running a dry signal without delay or the pitch change or detune.
