If nothing else, Fenris is my "collecting and gathering" set. The extra speed moving between trees while chopping or sprinting about while gathering is just nice.
Try the Fenris set with Skoll and Hati sometime, it's my go-to if I wanna feel like a ninja in Valheim. The speed means you can 'sneak' up on enemies by just yeeting right at them and getting a leap attack in nice and fast, the sheer damage scale you can rack up in the opening moments is amazing.
definitely give this a shot I main carapace and mistwalker as well and my wife mains skoll and Hati with ferris we switched sets just to change it up and I loved it
I'm glad you had fun with the Fenris armor. As you observed, the appeal of the set is the speed. The resistance to fire also has some value, but it is really the ability to close or open the range at will that matters. In my most recent co-op playthrough of the plains the two of us were using mixed Root-Fenris sets with atgeir and Frostner for melee, and the Huntsman's bow for pulling. The reduced noise of the Huntsman's bow means you can usually get singletons or duos where using any other ranged weapon would get a sizeable crowd. If the pull went well, we dealt with the adversary easily. If we got extras our high maneuverability combined with stuns (atgeir) and slows (Frostner) meant we could quickly lock down most of the group and focus-fire them down one by one. If we got a REALLY big mob we just beat feet for the next county. As a result of this combination we found the Plains to be one of the easiest biomes to defeat (as long as we all agree not to talk about what happens when you blunder into a tar pit unawares). In your current playthrough you happen to be (so far) predominantly using atgeir and club, with some archery thrown in. I think you will be well set up to enjoy the plains when you get there. 🙂
THe huntsman bow has a reduced sound? I didn’t know that! Might be fun to test that! Yeah that sounds like some great tactics! And yeah I think I’ll be nicely set up for the plains! Frosty will be a great companion but I need to give the atgeir a bit more love.
I'm currently running Carapace helmet and chest piece with the Fenris leggings. This combo keeps you fairly tanky and it's amazing how much just once piece of Fenris help out your mobility, especially in the Mistlands.
Yeah 98% instead of 90% movement speed definitely does sound nice. I was surprised just how much faster 3-piece fenris at 109% felt… it seemed more like 130% if I had to guess.
You can do jump attacks to keep them from escaping during the startup delay, and jump kicks are a great opener against fulings/wolves. You can also sprint out of attacks instead of rolling with your net +9% move speed, you recover faster to keep hitting them
The server I’m on now, decided to try Fenris gear…got it in 2 ice caves, with an extra cultist trophy. So I was pretty amused watching you and your buddy grinding lol
The Fenris set is amazing with knives especially! The Fenris claws are not as good as knives I feel, and sword and shield you only get a 1% reduction to your movement speed because the Fenris set gives you +9% so super speedy
I would love to finally get that cultist trophy for the full set. The run-fast buff is the reason I'd want it. The fleshrippers? Not really interesting to me, even as someone that loves fisticuffs in most games. Keep it up, buddy!!
I love the Fenris set. I hated having to change up, because I love the speed. The Flesh Rippers could be better, IMO, so I don't really use them. Of course, now with the Staff of Frost & Embers, I like the Eitr Weave armor.
Would be cool if the set had a buff that stacks into 3 and every time you block Wolverine block parry, it builds and stacks. Each buff gives a 10% attack speed increase.
Yeah the Fenris armor is good at exploring, and doing hit and run attacks. Not a big fan of the claws they seem to weak and should have a special attack that lets you run and hit. Although I think you can keep the claws equipped in the water ?? maybe ?
Best gear in the game. Im still using it in the ashlands and got fists and running on 70. Kicks stun everything. Berserks and seeker soldiers. The first attack has good stun too, second attack does double damage Btw triple health food is the way to go with this, and bonemass.
i kinda wish we got other fleshripper like weapons with animations and attack patterns akin to the cultists and ulvs, but yeah the rippers delay is very annoying, probably biggest reason why people dont want to touch them, likely needs a startup buff
Love the fenris set! Feel it works best when mixed with other pieces with the speed bonus and fire res. Although there are better mixes, fenris hood, root chest, and padded legs is a good mix for plains at tge vwry least
The mix I would recommend is fenris leggings, root harnesk, and padded helmet (or whichever heavy helmet is the best available to you), as helmets, even heavy helmets, do not give a movement speed debuff, leaving you with a total of +1% movement speed rather than -4%, for the same armour value
@@WafflesGamesProbably Def should show damage numbers from things like Archers, Ticks, the usual piercing annoyances, including seekers (don't let them lunge tho, that's a bash)
Fenris gear with skoll & hati and you gonna have fun.. or fenris head and legs with the root chest + skoll & hati and you gonna feel mistlands is pretty easy.. try it out if you havent already :o)
@@WafflesGamesProbably i found a video of yours called Skoll and Hati: Underrated so the wep is something you have tried but idk with that armor set or the 2 sets together.. but you should 100% try 2 fen with the root chest and the weps.. you kill everything so fast and you move fast as well so more or less nothing can touch you if played right..
The animation of Claw attacks is pretty janky, nowhere near the attack speed of knives, or even maces. I want to like the claws, but they are just not in line with the weapons we've already become used to. If they fix the animation to not 'draw back' and then strike, on par with, say, knives- then they'd be a good option.
uhh it's not the main combo of this weapon it's like battleaxe your secondary which is fast kick with very high stagger is the opening attack 😅 it can stagger mistlands mobs even soldiers because it's pretty easy to mash. Oh my valheim community are really underexperienced in combat.
Fenris set with skoll and hati is honestly just the more practical option at mistlands levels. You will clap all these mobs in no time. Even parry non starred berserkers and 2 shot them.
Hey feel free to make some videos showcasing your pro level skills! Teach me something! I’m still very new to the Fenris set so this was just my introduction to it.
@WafflesGamesProbably I don't need to. There's plenty here on youtube, but to summarize, people who use it don't parry or evade they just weave out of an attack with pure foot speed, then counterattack. Not that it's impossible to do outside of fenris it just makes it easier to do.
If nothing else, Fenris is my "collecting and gathering" set. The extra speed moving between trees while chopping or sprinting about while gathering is just nice.
Yeah I could definitely see that as being very helpful!

Oh the joys of Waffles Chaos...
Also, 14:02 upon seeing this, I can hear the Left 4 dead Horde sound... Truly terrifying...
Hahaha yes this was probably the most chaotic video to date!
Excellent content, excellently narrated. I love the adventures of Waffles. 😊
I’m glad you’re enjoying!!

I’ll have to check that out! I can’t imagine only one piece would make that much difference but maybe I give it a good shot!

Youuuuu jerk! Haha Enjoy it! Definitely a great time.
You found the speedsword. Excellent.
I'd watch a waffles lox riding video. That mechanic is goofy, but might be your brand of chaos.
Hahaha! I have actually never tamed a Lox! That might be a fun one.
how do you spawn and despawn things like that? I have use basic devcommands for spawning objects when my server cheats and deletes them
Yeah it's all in devcommands. I don't remember what I spawned here but every item will have a spawn code you can find on the wiki.
The Fenris set is amazing with knives especially! The Fenris claws are not as good as knives I feel, and sword and shield you only get a 1% reduction to your movement speed because the Fenris set gives you +9% so super speedy

I agree! The flesh rippers were fun to try but definitely not my style. But everything changed when I brought out real weapons!
Fenris is awesome with knives. The ambush damage if you sneak up on someone is devastating and it's no speed debuff from the weapon as well.
Embrace the chaos? I'm an agent of chaos
Then I'd...embrace you...?
I love the Fenris set. I hated having to change up, because I love the speed. The Flesh Rippers could be better, IMO, so I don't really use them. Of course, now with the Staff of Frost & Embers, I like the Eitr Weave armor.
It's an awesome set! Fenris and eitr! I need to spend more time with magic

The armor definitely has its uses. I’ll probably be doing some more fun things with it. The claws? Meh.
Claws do 6x dmg on sneak attack. Good to use with troll armour? Fenris itself is good for scouting the map not fighting
Fenris can be very good for fighting but only if you're good at evading, which I am often not! haha!!

Would also like to mention that fenris makes heavy weapons like the battleaxe more viable by offsetting the slow movement speed
Yeah I definitely discovered that by the end of the video when I took out the mistwalker and the sledge!
I could be completely wrong but isnt the skol and hati is better than wolverine claws?
@@Sizzlinsauce14 oh yeah it definitely is. This is a mountain tier set vs Mistlands tier for the skoll and hati.

Certainly a fun set, but also risky. Root Armor showcase?
Probably a good idea! I’ve been meaning to since the beginning. Just not sure how I’d do that one.
@@WafflesGamesProbably Def should show damage numbers from things like Archers, Ticks, the usual piercing annoyances, including seekers (don't let them lunge tho, that's a bash)
Ok so for the fulings that don’t die… get the cheat sword and let’s see them bug out that.
Heh I still haven't messed with that sword...

Yo
Conclusion: You're not worthy of pro gear set from what I can see. you need to kick with them fisty cuffs.

I hate padded armor. Fenris is my go to with claws. Learn to play
Cool beans. Pretty sure I have a good idea how to play but I'll do my best.
Not sure if said.. but if you use secondary attack it will auto stagger an enemy and then can usually 1 shot
I do eventually figure that out after watching a video on the Fenris set!
