    Recently got RP-450C and RP-280F, very happy with them. Bought Wharfedale Evo4.2's, and the sound was too warm for me, even with a treble boost. Also decided to re-arrange the room and switch to towers. I personally like bright speakers, though I do EQ the Klipsch's down a bit. Depending on the frequency, I bring the Klipsch's down 2 to 3dB above 1.5khz, and it makes them perfect to my preference. Haven't heard the SVS. I know there are other great speakers on the neutral to bright side that I'd like, but after being disappointed with the EVO4.2's, I wanted to have a safe and done choice. The Klipsch's are efficient and I very much enjoy their sound. While they will sound great on lower and receiver/amps, I know they sound much better with better amps. Current using an Onkyo TX-SR676, but plan on upgrading to the newer version of the Yamaha 3080 when it gets replaced with an HDMI 2.1 version.
    I'm here because I'm researching SVS subs and I just happened across this comparison. I played the Wharfedale EVO4.2 along side an RF-280F, and at the same output, the Klipsch really is about 8dB or so louder at the same settings (Rated 98dB vs 88dB). However, toning down the highs brings it down to about a 5dB difference. Still quite large!

    Sensitivity really only matters from an amplifier perspective. Klipsch and their high sensitivity have been popular with people that love tube amps because they don't put out a lot of power but sound distinctive. If your budget for amplification is constrained then you'll want more sensitivity to make those watts go further if you like music loud.

    • @ThatHomeTheaterDude
      @ThatHomeTheaterDude  6 лет назад

      Murchy Murch I get that. Most people do externals when they get into this level of home theater. It’s defiantly not a requirement but a lot of fun if you have it dialed in. I really like the way these ultras are sounding right now. Very excited to have both to test side by side.

    Sensitivity has nothing to do with build/sound quality. It is a measure of efficiency, and the only thing it can accurately tell you is how loud a speaker will be. Higher sensitivity takes less wattage to get to the same Db level, so higher sensitivity = higher output. There are fantastic speakers of all sensitivity levels from the mid 80's to mid 90's.

    Sensitivity just says it will play with less power more efficient than one with a lower rating. If your powering them with 200 watts it really won't matter much. You will probably just play the higher sensitivity at a lower volume to get your desired level. That's my opinion of course. The svs will sound good on AV receiver. But will open up and shine with an amp.

    Of course the high sensitivity the better speaker. The main issue is that all sensitivity listed by different speaker manufactures are not comparable, because they use different measuring methods to measure their speaker sensitivity. As a consumer, you have to bring them to your home and measure them with your own sound meter or audyssey mic to compare.

    I know I’m late to the party on this one, but the problem with the sensitivity number is way too many companies do not give you a true number and Clips is usually one of them. I’m not saying they make a bad speaker. I have clips in my home theater, but as many people will test them they are nowhere near sensitive as they claim another done subwoofers flat out showed you that that number basically meant diddly squat there were speakers in that test that were 67 dB less sensitive than another rated speaker. they played almost the exact same with the exact same wattage if that number was 100% true that should not have happened, this is just an observation from looking up tons of videos

    I own RP-440C and SVS Prime Center. RP-440C sounds better lower volume and provides better staging and louder (less tight but airy) mid base. However, SVS Prime provide much better sounds in louder volume, and it produces more accurate sound and produce tighter base response. Klipsch is better when listening to classical music, while SVS is better when listening to pop, rap, and etc. I have industrial karaoke machine at home and SVS is MUCH better reproducing your voice. Just for movie watching especially larger scale movies, Klipsch is better for it's airy and louder mid base and staging it provides.

      Klipsch is currently moved from my entertainment room to living room due to karaoke... and SVS is moved from living room to entertainment room. SVS is much more accurate in reproducing sound. Klipsch provide something more like "fun to listen to" sounds if it makes any sense. if you don't care about the accuracy of the sound. Klipsch is better (better looking too). My entertainment room is 24ft X 33ft. Living room is 24ft X 28ft (but open to kitchen so.. more like 40ft X 33ft). All speakers are set to small with low cut off @80Hz. I tried 60 or 40, but my subwoofers sounded better below 80Hz.

      The SVS center has far much fuller sound off axis than Klipsch center speakers which have nulls. Also Klipsch mislead with their speaker sensitivity ratings as they do them indoors which gives them a bump of around 6db. So whatever sensitivity rating Klipsch gives for a speaker, always deduct around 6db to arrive at the true rating.

      I have had both amps. The outlaw had a wider sound stage. It had really nice detail, however the highs sounded way to far back for my taste. They sounded like the upper mid and highs were behind the speakers. On the other hand the Emotiva was more oriented towards the upper mids and the highs. It didn't sound as broad and detailed as the outlaw did. Apples to oranges I chose the emotive. My svs pb4000 can do all that heavy lifting. So it just comes down to ur personal taste. Ha ha...hearing degrades with age, as early as 18, or from damage from loud sources. One source says, "the highest frequency that a normal middle-aged adult can hear is only 12-14 kilohertz". So, might be a good idea to check hearing range (I think there are some tests online) before paying for sound that can't be heard.
      I imagine that is also a contributing reason to why speaker sound is so subjective.

    Sensitivity is just how loud a speaker is at a given wattage and distance, 1w i think. You could have a speaker produce 200db @ 1 meter and 1 watt but that has nothing to do with sound quality. Look at headphones, they probably produce 30 db @ 1 metet and 1 watt, or whatever, and there are some that are really amazing.

      BlackMusicGenre hi, it's to compensate for the lack of power in a receiver. A power amp/ Emotiva will bring true clean power to your tower speakers, so they don't sound muddy or distort. • @lusly258

      BlackMusicGenre its also for more power if u need it, but most receivers exaggerate their power ratings, and I was having trouble with my towers distorting at moderate levels, because the receiver was already out of gas,Naomi had to buy a power amp. The short answer on sensitivity is how loud the speaker performs with 1 watt of power at one meter. Low efficiency speakers and high efficiency speakers can both sound great, but stuff in the 80s dbs lends itself well to high powered amplification (hundreds of watts per channel) while something like klipsch can use boutique amplifiers that are 25 watts or less. This is because every 3db increase of volume requires a doubling of amplifier power - so in some cases, the difference between 25w/channel and 200w/channel only gets you +12db gain. When you're doing things like EQ, it's going to matter with low efficiency. On top of that - all the major speaker brands lie about their sensitivity and all the major amplifier companies lie about their wattage output. That's before you even get into things like impedance that can affect real world power.

    Getting 6 of these Ultra Centers had turned out to be wholly impossible for me. I have a business & residential locations both in the USA and in Europe. In the U.S. I cannot get them, because the SVS store front is not even accessible to me when browsing their site from Europe where I am now. Also, none of the larger U.S. authorized SVS dealers are permitted to ship SVS products outside the country. In Europe I cannot get them, either. SVS has a presence in Germany, but (a) they only carry the Prime-series and not the Ultras and (b) you have to be a resident of Germany to order from them. I am not even in Germany, so that was that. I was referred to an outlet in Hungary to get them, nothing going. Also, SVS does not even have a service center in Europe. So, whereas I must believe that SVS Sound is a good Hi-Fi speaker and subwoofer brand, if it is this difficult just to get their products, maybe I should look elsewhere.

      Getting into the higher channel AVRs they struggle to maintain their advertised output ratings. If you are straining the AVR then it creates heat, heat leads to lower sound quality and AVR failure. Most people dont really have a problem with this, but for people that regularly listen to movies at reference or close to it then it matter more. Using an external amp takes the load off of the AVR and gives you the power rating advertised more accurately. This turns all the negative things about using all of the internal amps into positives. Better sound (clarity & defintition) lower heat on the AVR and longer life. The only con is higher cost to use externals. Hope this helps. You asked this in two different videos so im going to copy and past this reply so other people can benefit of your question. Thanks!

      I am more and more impressed with SVS. you always get more than what you pay for. People with klispch speakers can be really pigheaded and cant believe that another speaker couple possibly compare. I have an open mind and I like to form my own opinions rather than just crapping on brands that I may or may not have heard (unlike some people). I will always give my opinions based on experience rather than what they look like on paper. I started this channel to help people sift thru all the bull and give honest unbiased opinions. Sorry, i went off on a tangent. Which Speakers were you looking at?

      That Home Theater Dude much like people with svs subs. They can't believe anything else out there can be a better sub than svs. I started with SVS subs (pc2000, pc12+, PB16) and swore to them being the best of the best. Well, they are great subs just not for the price...waaay overpriced imo. So having the chance to explore outside the realm of SVS subs I was able to see/hear what was out there that were better bang for your $$. I'm glad I did.

    As it is with any Center Channel if not in The Sweet Spot then you are not getting the full effect unless you have an extremely long Center Channel with multiple Tweeter arrays then it will spread evenly throughout the room like the one I have or if you have a specific style of speaker that has something that allows you to not have to use a center Channel also like the prototypes I have but good comparison video keep it up

    Peak power and RMS shouldn't matter unless you are using them in a very, VERY large space (auditorium, theater, arena, etc..). Most people's living room's won't be fully utilizing these high powered amplifiers anyway. Most people listen at up to 90db** which depending on the distance, can be a few watts or about 40 watts at a greater distance such as in a typical living room. ** Keep in mind that a lawn mower operates around 90-95db!

    If you had to do it all over again, what external amplifier would you get it is a avr good enough to push these for a true movie theater experience or better? I have a Denon 4300h, is this enough to really push these or do I need an external amplifier.

    • @ThatHomeTheaterDude
      @ThatHomeTheaterDude  6 лет назад +1

      I started with the yamamha 681 with klipsch reference speakers. They sounded great. when I upgraded to the reference premiere line the yamaha didnt sound as good powering the speakers. I switched to the denon 6300h and I was really happy. I only got externals case denon runs hot so I wanted safety. If you have all klipsch and plan to keep all klipsch then I would say the 4300 is great. If you wanna get more performance from your sysytem then I say go externals and get SVS. You dont need externals to run SVS, but its always a good idea to have them at least for the front stage (L C R) channels. I use 200watts per channel for those

      Honorio Riquelme you can do one of two ways. Either get a y cable and split the signal into 2 or do a single cable from the sub out on you receiver to the first sub then connect another cable from the first sub on the “sub out” to the sub in on the second sub. Easy peasy.

    Thinking about doing a video of my home theater but havn't gotten the chance yet. My setup consists of a Marantz 8012 for receiver. For center channel I have the Klipsch RP-450C, L/R channels consists of Klipsch RP-280F. Surrounds are the Klipsch RP-260F. And 4 Klipsch Atmos speakers RP-140SA I attached to the ceiling. The bass.... Yup also a Klipsch. Its the 15 inch sub R-115SW. Making my setup a 5.1.4. Im in the market for a laser 4k ust projector but nothing in the market has my attention so far, still patiently waiting. For my videos I have a "still very competent" Mitsubishi 92 inch DLP WD-92842. Not a bad setup if I say so. Pretty proud of it lol. What you think of my setup? I dont have a power conditioner. Should I add that to my list of next things to get? Thanx for your assistance

    • @ThatHomeTheaterDude
      @ThatHomeTheaterDude  6 лет назад +1

      4k projectors are getting cheaper and cheaper. Football season is right around the corner. expect some sales to happen soon. As far as lazer pj you are probably still looking around the 4 thousand range. the uhz65 probably being my favorite but there are plenty to consider. Your setup is very similar to my old klipsch setup. With proper calibration that system will scream! Good choice. Get a power condtioner for everything hooked up to your system. I dont play around with that. Ethernet, HDMI and regular compenents are all linked. if a surge takes out one component then they are all suseptable to being damaged. happend to a buddy that had everything connect to surge protector except xbox and the HMDI linked the two and fried all the protected stuff.

I really didnt like the Audyssey settings so I did my own settings. I liked my settings better lol
