They developed it very nicely, without clashing with the ancient feel and landscape. The hotel room decor was beautiful. Stunning carpets. I never knew about the pigeon roosts. We used to eat raised pigeons, don't think they do it anymore now, but they were eaten grilled or boiled with the stock used for tomato flavoured macaroni. Re sauces, they eat yogurt with a lot of foods, and most sauces are from the juices produced from cooking meats and vegetables, such as in stews. Turkish cuisine is so much more than kebabs, there are so many different stews that are not 'dry' and which bread is used to mop up the sauce. Rice is usually cooked in a tasty chicken or lamb broth, not plain water, and with added orzo or noodles sauteed in butter and olive oil. Ask for pilav, not pirinc. Maybe they think you want rice the way most of the world cooks it ie in plain water. Dolma is Turkish, by the way. It comes from the Turkish verb for filling, dolmak.

In Turkey rice is traditional cooked with butter but restaurants are cheaping out and using sunflower seed oil or some other type of vegetable oil instead, usually. Sometimes people, when eating rice at home, also mix it with natural yoghurt. The way food is presented, especially the condiments that come with it, in touristic restaurants are not a really very traditional way of presenting Turkish food. Traditionally you'd get some sort of assorted meze dishes such as ezme (a sort of salsa), and haydari (a natural yoghurt based cold meze dish) that would be eaten together with the main dish.

Hi Gabriel, it seems like Cappadocia is like Niagara Falls, a romantic hot spot to get married or engaged. The homes are remarkably familiar to Adobe homes of the U.S. Southwest specifically, New Mexico where the homes are cool for day heat and warm for the nights. The rice is definiley something you can mix anything with like beans or meat with gravy you can't go wrong.

Turkish cuisine literally has hundreds of ways to cook rice (pilav) and I can assure you that boiling it in plain water is not one of them. Maybe they do this in touristic areas, I don't know. Rice can be cooked in chicken broth, lamb broth, with sauteed vermicelli or orzo, with lentils and onions, with chickpeas and onions, with tomatoes and broth, with bits of lamb and onion, with bits of eggplant and onions, with carrots, almonds, cinnamon and chicken pieces, with zucchini and all the above combined, the list goes on. Gabe, you need to interact with the locals (not the waiters or hotel staff) and let them make suggestions on where and what to eat. Condiments like ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise are not needed when the food itself has flavour. Testi kebab is not dry, it's cooked in a tomato sauce, so I'm not convinced you've eaten it.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos Lol, different every time. People ask me why I keep returning to india multiple times…could do a year & not even scratch the surface. Got the itch for it now, I’m back in the uk six months & it’s getting chilly, just been rewatching your Amritsar vids…that’s my happy place, always have 3 or 4 days there every India trip.
