At this stage in the game, the name Whitechapel commands respect. Already sitting on one of the most enviable catalogs in contemporary metal, in 2019 they dropped The Valley, showcasing a confident evolution in their sound and standing as a true landmark release that sets a new standard for the genre. “To me, it was like the stars aligning for us to create our almost perfect record in regard to songwriting, vocal performance, the mix and master, and the artwork,” says guitarist Alex Wade. “We like to look at our albums as chapters of our career, and that is one chapter I will never forget. I think it really solidified that we can embrace a new sound, and if we execute it properly, then the fanbase is going to support and enjoy it.” In 2021, they return with that album’s successor, the mighty Kin, which is an even more dynamic and diverse collection, further advancing the band’s sound into new territory without losing sight of what brought them to this point. “I feel with every album, we learn what worked best on the last one and try to utilize that in our writing. Early in the writing, there was some discussion of the album being like ‘The Valley‘ part II, not literally called that, but in how the songs sound and flow through it. It’s very much a storytelling type record like ‘The Valley‘ was,” adds vocalist Phil Bozeman, “Musically, we just want to create what we vibe with at the given moment. We write music with how we feel and not what is expected of us, while lyrically the idea of continuing from the story of ‘The Valley‘ was always the goal.”

A lot of the guys that do this kinda stuff usually kill their voice, and either lose all their talent or are forced to go to clean only vocals. Phil's vocals seem to not be effected by his time spent growling and roaring into the mic at all, and further more, he's not bringing the clean vocals in out of necessity but rather cause they sound amazing. Looks to me like these guys are gonna be around for years to come! ALL HAIL WHITECHAPEL!
@@skullofironhold Nowadays, vocal technique has evolved so much that vocalists no longer damage or severely strain their vocal chords; however, you're right ... in fact many metal vocalists which have been around for years (which yelled and shouted at the top of their lungs for years) have completely destroyed their chords. I think Phil displays an amazing technique, and I highly doubt this voice is at risk :)

I heard the song on Sirius XM radio. This track is fast, technical, melodic and progressive! Phil is one of the best extreme metal vocalists on earth and this song is a proof. The diversity is incredible in this track.
It has everything we love about Whitechapel fast vocals, grooves, tremolo picking and blast beats and aome additional elements like harmonic atmospheric guitars we only heard partially on Doom Woods and also a section of A Perfect Circle-esque clean vocals and I gotta say, the clean vocals fused well with their sound. Their sound is complete!

I know they haven't confirmed that Alex Rudinger is their drummer but I can tell it's his style from a mile away. He's the perfect fit!
From what I heard by multiple people, he recorded all the tracks on the album.

Edit: I’ve now sat and listened to this song a multitude of times, and I can safely say this is a masterpiece. From the ambience, to the raw intensity, to the emotion, and just how well executed it is and how well it all flows… Bravo.

I think they found a good balance on The Valley. I dont think his singing is as refined and practiced to carry the majority of an entire album. Maybe one day!

Oh yeah, bro, it's absolutely beautiful, and very similar to Adam Jones style, so is Phil's cleans are similar to Maynard James Keenan's. I'm also really like the distorted bass sound during the clean part - sounds really epic!

Absolutely incredible. Once again they've outdone themselves, evolved, and progressed their sound while still retaining their roots. Musically it feels a little different from The Valley but lyrically it feels like The Valley part 2 in a way. I can't wait for this new era of Whitechapel to be unleashed upon the world!

I feel like Whitechaple just keeps getting better with age. Phils vocals just seem more polished still hitting those extremely satisfying deep gutturals but clearer/easier to distinguish what he's saying than ever with each album. I love the direction they're going in with the themes with concepts like transcendence, and a sort of war within. I feel like they started in this direction with the song The Void, and I am loving it.

It's been a long time since an album has connected this much with me so quickly. Phil's clean vocals are utterly gorgeous and the guitar work is fucking amazing. I'm so happy to have gotten to grow up in my youth with such incredible metal bands around.

I don't know about you but something took my hand and walked me through life.
I think this song tells the story of a sort of symbiotic relationship between two incarnations (sometimes beneficial, sometimes harmful). These beings are undoubtedly somehow linked, one of them is innately aware of this & the other is in resolute denial and that is where the struggle ensues.

The guitar work is really shining on this song, love the dynamics going from a modern thrashy style riffing and drumming to a big chorus with big sounding chords and beautiful leads over it.
