Awesome video. Bought a $13 keyboard off Amazon and it works like a charm. The stock keyboard had a bunch of keys stop working. This video helped save me a bunch of money from taking it to a local shop.
Many many thanks Sir Tim! "The pain in the ass disassembly for keyboard replacement" award goes to this Toshiba model. I have experience with laptops but this one was a lot different. Thanks to your video I broke nothing. It worked. Thanks 👍
This video was right on time. Stupid keyboard was acting iffy from day 1. Occasionally it would operate without issue but just as the warranty expired, it went to crap. Successfully replaced this keyboard tonight.
Good explanation at an appropriate pace for learning. Your video gives me courage to go that deep. In my case several keys are not responding; cursor does not move after pressing the faulty key. Also it does not display anything. I have already checked everything from the software side. Also removed one key to see if there is any dirt accumulation; it did not appear so. In the mean time partly broke the a portion of the inner plastic retainer clip. However, I could put it back correctly, which was very tricky. Most of the vowels, 1, 2, t keys are not working. I am afraid to remove each one of these keys to look for dirt as the plastic retains are prone to breakage. It looks like I have to follow each step you described in your video after buying a keyboard. Like someone said, if we do not connect correctly, we may fry up the motherboard. I have already opened the laptop to figure out how to fix the broken hinge. One time it did not power on. Instead of losing hope I opened it and reconnected the ribbon cable, the very thing one that connects to power switch, which turned on the laptop. There are many, literally many things to watch out for which you have clearly explained. Only your video explained that there were two more screws hiding, which I learned it from your video. Thank you very much for clearly showing and explaining with close up frames. Without knowing that it was not possible to open the laptop and venture to troubleshoot/repair. Thank you very much! I am sure many viewers feel the same way and appreciate your efforts, which they have already expressed it. The touch screen and the onboard keyboard both are working fine. So I am debating whether to take the risk of dismantling the whole thing or be satisfied with the onboard keyboard or an external USB wired or WiFi keyboard and a mouse. It will be great to follow your steps and fix it. Of course fixing the broken hinge is my first priority. Wish you all the best, Sir!!!
Thank you very much for this excellent video! It made replacing the keyboard on my daughters laptop so much easier than me just winging would have been. The details were excellent and easy to follow.
Could you please add a video on how to remove and replace the LCD as well as Touch Screen ribbon cables in the same model used in this video, i.e., Toshiba Satellite P55W-B5224. I do not know how the cable passes through the hinges, and how the cables and contacts are kept intact during opening and closing of the screen and operation of the hinges everyday. I am grateful to you for sharing your video.
Thank you for the great tutorial and saving me quite a few $$$ !!, after watching your video I said ...I'M GOIN' IN !, after a couple hours I had the new $15 keyboard installed, all keys working now, those darn keyboard plate cover screws were a little(literally) tricky.
Looked like hardwork but at least it was'nt a HP Laptop where you have to remove the hinges as well . still on the plus side we can now charge more for Labour . Good job Tim Keep up the good work.
You are correct. As mentioned before this is very Apple like when it comes to removing keyboards. Charging more is a must when replacing keyboards on these models. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.
is very good explanation and video. Can yuo show how is disassemble the lcd touch screen of this satellite p55w -B I need to know the LCD number part. I need to supply and change the display of my device. Thank Yuo.
Here is what is happening with the touchpad. Starting at a random time after boot, the mouse moves to the upper left and starts clicking. I re-seated the ribbon cables going to the touchpad but it didn't help. Here's a video and a pic of the new rev of the board. No more ribbon cable to the power button. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks. www.dropbox.com/s/ah9376e0r5c5ae2/P55W-C5316%20touchpad%20erratic%20mouse.mp4?dl=0 www.dropbox.com/s/ao1ym6khtuq2wsf/P55W-C5316%20Internals.jpg?dl=0
Sir, have you seen any CMOS battery in the model of your video in the backside of the motherboard? I cannot locate it in my Toshiba model satellite P55W-B5224, of course I have not removed the motherboard to see its backside for the CMOS battery. Because my screen lost display, I connected to an external monitor via a HDMI cable and attached an external keyboard, everything was excellent. Then perhaps the GPU got overheated (not sure though). I somehow got the BIOS setup in my laptop screen (not connected to the external monitor). Since the screen was very hard to read turning faint, could not enter the current date or save any thing as I panicked (not able to see anything on the screen). Perhaps it corrupted the BIOS. I tried to reset BIOS by pressing a pin in the pinhole next to the USBs and the HDMI side of the laptop. No display on the screen nor in the external monitor. I tried to upload BIOS after downloading from Toshiba Support website, however no screen display not even the BIOS screen. Laptop turns on, fan runs, there is power at every USB port (for a fraction of a second as the laptop tries to boot up). These lights are staying on but no screen display. If I can find the CMOS battery location or jumpers for the CMOS for this particular model (P55W-B5224), I can try to boot up. Any help from viewers or you will be highly appreciated. I already put 3 nuts and bolts to fix the loose hinge. Also replaced the thermal paste of the heatsink. Any input from viewers is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your wonderful video.
What do you call the connectors on the ends of the BLACK & WHITE wi-fi antenna wires with the small nubs that snap/plug back into place under the clear green tape (at the 19:30 sec in your video), when I went to re snap/plug? them back into place they do not want to stay in for a good connection, tried taping them on but it's not working and sporadically receiving the wi-fi signal from my router, the small round nubs where the connectors plug/snap back into the 2 small round cup holes on the wi-fi chip/card seem to be worn out of shape from removing, please advise...thank you.
You just need to get those things snapped on correctly. Takes me a while sometimes also but they will snap back on. You just need to hold your tongue right.
All is good now, I used small dabs of some good conductive electronics wire glue on the nubs (too small of area to solder), all keys on the keyboard working now and WiFi is connecting great with fast non-sporadic connectivity, it's amazing how things work with the right facial expressions and tongue placement, thank you again !
After replacing keyboard with a new one 1, Q,A,Z, Cap lock and Tab button does work. I have removed the key and pressed the buttons without the key on it and it still does it work....Any suggestions?
Tim, thanks for this video!! One quick question for you.. what size screwdriver did you use for those final screws that hold the keyboard? Have tried a Phillips cross PH000 but it's still too big for the screws.. any advice? Thanks
Is this common problem of thin laptop. My toshiba just almost 2 years before start this behaviour. My old asus and dell didnt have this problem even until time to recycle
I own a Toshiba and it went through 2 factory keyboards in a year - They are crap - The Generic replacement I used the third time has lasted me many many years
nice to watch as some connectors flip up some just pull out with side tabs and in low lighting tough to tell, if you mix those types up at all, you can easily damage a mainboard, Worked on an HP in house with customers peeking over each shoulder blocking my light and made that mistake as they were in a hurry and I was distracted. woops, HP wasn't amused.. but they sent a board for next visit..
assuming that last cable before speakers was the LVDS cable, going to see if can pull that ducting for cooler you called a clutch to see if can get to cable with mainboard in place..
I have a P55- A5312 and keyboard had baby juice spilt onto it. Watching your video gives me confidence to swap out this laptops keyboard
Glad the video helped.

Hey is that a touch screen? It almost looks like the digitizer may be malfunctioning.
Yes, it is a touch screen. I'll check that out, thank you!
You can pull the digitizer cable from the back of the screen if you can gain access.
Thank you, excellent video
You are welcome!

Your welcome. Thanks for watching.
thank you ...
Thanks for watching.
One needs a professional to do this job, too many connectors and removals of key components, end up screwing up some other component. UGHHHHH!
Mine doesn't turn on again, i just follow the video
Go back through and double check all of your connections.
Why did Toshiba designed some laptops like this, we need to take the whole thing apart xD, feels bad man!
ty
