Symphonic black metal at its finest. When Norway runs out of crude oil & salmon, I bet they'll still have black metal in its various forms.

The only thing I don't like about this version is that Vortex isn't in the band anymore and an entire choir is not as powerful and majestic has his voice. I was lucky enough run into him and Shagrath, the lead singer in Oslo 3 weeks after seeing them live here in Colorado. I was on vacation and they had just returned home from their North American tour. And it was the Norwegian independence day. And I lost my virginity that night. Best vacation ever. You guys should react to some Fleshgod Apocalypse if you haven't already. The Violation is a good song to go with.

That sounds like an epic series of events. That's awesome! I've gotten to see them twice with Vortex so I second this notion. I wish youtube was more of a thing when Vortex was in the band. I also second the notion of doing Fleshgod Apocalypse.

Also without the genius Mustis, i think the sound of the Keyboard in this song like the old concerts is more powerful and suitable to black metal vibe !!

So the part when the choir came in is the part ICX Vortex sang on the album. I love that guys voice! Some newer stuff he’s part of is Borknagar. Try the song Winter Thrice by them!

This consert was shown on norwegian national TV. the orchestra is The Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK). on that show they had a few clips from the practice they did together and the "leader" of KORK said it was amazing and that it was like Edward Grieg on steroids (jk). a few of the people in the orchestra had the dimmu Borgir shirts on them when playing :D

The orchestra playing with Dimmu is called "Kork" (Kringastings Orkesteret) they are sponsored by the state. Norwegian Black Metal is considered as national culture in Norway by the state, therefore the state orchestra plays with our fantastic metal bands. They have also played with bands like Satyricon etc.. perks of living in a social democracy ;)

So much good stuff by these guys. One of my all-time faves. You almost have to whip out the death cult Armageddon and puritanical euphoric misanthropia albums. My favorite song of theirs is Hybrid Stigmata: the apostasy.
Would love to see you introduce Chels to Cradle of Filth by easing her in with Nymphetamine. She would probably have to become accustomed to dani's voice before hearing their old greats, like Bathory Aria or Dusk and her Embrace. One thing for sure though, is that there is probably not a better Lyricist than Dani.

    • @MatandChelsReact

Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia is by favorite by them. So many great songs on that album! And i agree, I think it may be time to introduce Chels to some Cradle! - Mat

Not bad but Studio versions so much clearer, and No ICS Vortex just ruins it especially if your used to ICS Vortex singing the choir part. I know bands move on and band members come n go but if your new to a band you gotta hear the original for the effect it made when it 1st came out

🤦 I'll never understand why people react to love versions for the first time. It's just not the same. Especially since there's no vortex. The choir isn't nearly as good. Try to listen to the actual song next time.
